Why are changes necessary?

Grade 9 (35) 6 ineligible 4 < 2.5 GPA

Grade 10 (29) 7 ineligible 2 < 2.5 GPA

Grade 11 (43) 6 ineligible 6 < 2.5 GPA

Why are changes necessary?

Community Service

Ethics

Participation : 27% of students have been absent 10 or more days this quarter. Constant warnings for failure to Dress for Success or to dress appropriately.

Academics: 23% of students were ineligible at the end of the second quarter; 26% not meeting or maintaining the required 2.5 GPA

Community service: Our community service projects have become a matter of convenience rather than commitment.

Ethics: Numerous violations for academic and personal dishonesty. Placed 5 students on 60-day suspension or 30-day probation.

The changes are designed to . . . • Restore a sense of pride in belonging to the LTI program

• Provide access to a broader curriculum and projects that support classroom learning

• Promote a commitment to Kennedy and the LTI program

• Facilitate a pathway to college

• Use our resources more efficiently

Restoring a sense of pride in the program . . .

We are a team as well as a family and we are proud of who we are!

2. Dress for Success

Special occasions (like assemblies, trips, internships, etc.) with established guidelines for appropriateness.

Broadening the curriculum . . .

Promoting a commitment to Kennedy and to LTI . . .

Effective 2011, all of our fundraising literature will state that LTI will retain 20% of all proceeds as an administrative fee. These funds will be used to purchase supplies.

Each LTI grade level will be responsible for raising funds to augment the costs of trips for that grade level.

Each grade level is responsible for identifying and bringing a new cause or nonprofit entity into the LTI family.

All LTI students will be more visible at Kennedy events, serving as tour guides, presenters, ambassadors, etc.

LTI students and parents will assume responsibility for one major project at Kennedy in 2011. (Greenhouse, oh please, please!

Facilitating a pathway to college . . .

The LTI Certificate of Completion (COC)• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0-3.4 • Successfully complete all projects at the meet or exceeds expectations level• Be enrolled in the LTI program for at least 3 of the four years • Complete 200 hours of community service• Recipient college receives a copy of your certificate of completion • COCs will be given at graduation

The LTI Certificate of Distinction (COD)• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above• Successfully complete all projects at the meet or exceeds expectations level• Be enrolled in the LTI program for at least 3 of the four years • Complete 500 or more hours of community service • Recipient college receives a copy of your certificate of distinction• CODs will be given at graduation along with an LTI cord

Streamlining for efficiency . . .

All-LTI classes in Foundations of Leadership, Foundations of Technology, English and/or Social Studies

Maximum of 32 students per grade level; total of 128 for 2011.

Attrition will begin the week of March 21 and students will be notified the week of March 27. Decisions will primarily be based on a review of the student’s current academic progress, historical data, and recommendations from teachers.
