Collaboration Compilations

Two or more persons, families, or corporate bodies are collaboratively responsible for creating the work

The work is a compilation of works by different persons, families, or corporate bodies

• If nothing says who created what, assume collaboration

• If preferred source indicates who created what

• If in doubt, assume collaboration • If table of contents, preface, program notes, home page indicates who created what

• If components in resource indicate who created what

• The presence of a compiler or editor

• The knowledge that the creator could not possibly have collaborated (e.g., they lived in different times)

RDA 6.27.1.3 Collaborative Works

If two or more persons, families, or corporate bodies are collaboratively responsible for creating the work (see 19.2.1.1), construct the authorized access point representing the work by combining (in this order):

a) the authorized access point representing the person (see 9.19.1), family (see 10.10.1), or corporate body (see 11.13.1) with principal responsibility

b) the preferred title for the work (see 6.2.2).

• Exceptions to the Rule– Certain types of musical works identified in 6.28.1.1– Most moving image resources (named by preferred title)– Some resources involving both persons and corporate

RDA 6.27.1.4 Compilations of Works by Different Persons, Families, Corporate Bodies

• If the work is a compilation of works by different persons, families, or corporate bodies, construct the authorized access point representing the work by using the preferred title for the compilation.– Generally, the title proper of the manifestation (245), or– A title by which the compilation has become known (130)

• If the compilation lacks a collective title, construct separate access points for each of the works in the compilation.

Whole-part relationships for Compilations

Compilations with Collective Title:• Give MARC 505 contents note (PS 25.1)

• i.e., There is no limit on the number of works in the contents note unless burdensome.

• Give one MARC 7XX analytical authorized access point for the predominant or first work when it represents a substantial part of the resource; cataloger judgment if additional 7XX fields are given for other works. (PS 26.1)
