Safety Requirements

Product Inspection

Inspect the equipment for shipping damage. Should any damage be discover, immediately

file a claim with the carrier.

Read and follow all instructions

All the safety and operating instructions should be read prior to and follow while operating

this product.

Do not bypass or defeat electrical plug polarization or grounding. Doing so will violate the

warranty and may pose a risk of fire or electrocution.

Wire Protection

Ensure all connected wiring is routed correctly to avoid damage including pinching,

excessive bends, or compression. Never use the product if damaged cable network

connection.

Electrical Supply, Grounding, and Surge Protection

Ensure that all local or national electrical codes are followed. The products of safety class I

with movable power and single plug can only be plugged into sockets with safety pin and

protective conductor connected.

The interruption of the protective conductor is prohibited in both the plug and the meter. The

disruption may result in the risk that the product is a source of electric shock.

Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords or power strips as this may cause fire or

electric shock.

Power Lines

Always use caution and avoid operating this or any connected equipment near uninsulated

power lines or any other hazards.

Servicing

There are no user serviceable parts in this equipment. Do not attempt to service this product

or remove covers. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Follow the instructions in

this manual when replacing the fuses.

Heat

The product should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers,

stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that produce heat.

Ventilation

Make sure the fans are not obstructed when placing the equipment in the rack, so that the

air can circulate.

Overview

The RCS is a powerful tool to monitor and analyze the Transport Stream traffic that carries information of audio, video and data of the digital television channels.

The RCS 100 is able to analyze one RF, one ASI, and one IP inputs.

The RCS 400 is able to analyze up to four RF, up to four ASI inputs and one IP input.

Description of Equipment Components:

Home Button. Return the control of the equipment when it is being controlled remotely

Setup Button. Provides Access to the setup options of the menu

Remote: Indicates whether there is someone connected to the equipment through the

web application.

Sync: Indicates that there is signal in some of the synchronism inputs.

Error: The error LED lights up when the equipment detects an operating error.

Start Up

1.- Place the RCS in the rack

2.- Connect the RCS to power supply

5.- When the RCS starts, the display will show the Info menu, so you will see the IP assigned to

your RCS . By default, the RCS is shipped in DHCP mode, so the IP will be assigned automatically.

To enter a certain fixed IP, press the Setup button and select the STATIC option. Then you must

enter an IP address within the range of your network, using the buttons , and

7.- Copy the IP address showed in the Info screen of your RCS into the address bar of your web

browser:

To access the application, you must introduce an user name and the corresponding password. For

the first time, you must use the following ones:

User: admin

Password: rcs

Once you have entered in your application, you will be able to change your user name and your

password.

RCS Web Application

The RCS web application is organized in various sheets. Each sheet groups several features. In this

way, the user has an easy and quick access to any function.

The first time the user open the application, it will appear the “All in One” sheet selected:

All the features of the application will be explained bellow.

Channel tuning: select the cannel from the dropdown list. Frequency tuning: Enter de frequency and click “Set. Freq”

Access the settings by clicking the gear Wheel. To get out, click on the door icon

(*)RCS100: RF1, ASI1 or IP (IP option 902518); RCS400: RF1, RF2, RF3, RF4, ASI1, ASI2, ASI3, ASI4 or IP (IP option

902518)

1.- RCS Setup

In the top right of the screen, there is a gearwheel icon. When you click on it, you will access the

configuration menu.

Only system administrators and technicians have access to the RCS configuration (see section 1.3.-

System users).

The configuration menu is organized in several sheets, that will be explained bellow:

1.1.- System Configuration

This feature allows to set all the parameters of your equipment.

1.1.1.- System

In this tab you configure the network parameters, the date and the hour, the measure units, SNMP,

etc.

Network: It is possible to set the network parameters manually or using DHCP. If you select manual

mode, you must introduce all the network parameters: IP address, DNS, etc. To save the changes

you must click the “Apply Settings” button. To verify that your RCS is connected to the internet, click

the button “Check Internet”.

Video IP Configuration (Option 902518): As is the case with network configuration parameters,

the parameters of the IP video input must be configured manually. So, you must introduce all the

network parameters: IP address, DNS, etc. This configuration applies to all the inputs and outputs

assigned to that port. You can also see the negotiation status, and you can select to force or select

the auto mode. To save the changes you must click the “Apply Settings” button.

SNMP: The RCS system incorporates a SNMP server to send packets of the generated alarms to a

server selected by the user. So that the user can receive alarms, he must have an SNMP client

whose IP address must indicate on the "Trap IP Address" field. It is also necessary to indicate the

“Trap Community” and “RW Community”. The user can also select the type of trap that you want to

send:

-Trap: the system sends the trap and doesn’t wait for confirmation.

-Inform: the system sends the trap, but it waits for the receiver to confirm that it has received

the report. In this case, the user must select the number of retries and the time interval

between them.

The mib file can be downloaded clicking on the “Download mib” button. In this way, the user can

check the data structure and the features with explanatory comments, to obtain the data from the

RCS trough SNMP.

IGMP: The IGMP protocol can be set agreement with the network configuration, allowing to select

the protocol version (Auto, V1, V2 or V3). To apply the configuration, click on the “Apply settings”

button.

TS Recording: The files of the TS recordings can be saved in the internal memory of the RCS, or in

a pen drive connected to the RCS. This option is available only when the RCS detects a pen drive.

In addition, the user must indicate the time he wants to record before (between 1 and 15 seconds)

and after (between 15 and 45 seconds) the event.

Date and Time: When you first open the web application, you must set the date, the hour, the

region and the zone of the system, so the data will be saved correctly.

Units: You can choose the units to use in your measurements, dBuV or dBm.

Field Strength: This measurement can be enabled or disabled. When it is enabled, it requires to

characterize the antenna for wich the measurement is done. To do this, you must upload a file that

indicates the K factor and the gain of the antenna for a frequency range. This file must be a .csv file

with the following structure: 3 columns: the first column with the frequency values (in MHz), the

second column with the gain of the antenna for that frequency (in dB), and the third one with the K

factor for that frequency. It is also necessary to indicate the offset, that is a correction factor applied

to all the frequencies to offset the gain or loss that the signal has from the antenna to the RCS input.

So, the offset may be positive (when there are gain) or negative (when there are loss).

PID: You can choose the PIDs view mode (hexadecimal/decimal) as well.

SCTE-65 configuration: Allows to setup the VCT_ID parameter (Virtual Channel Table ID) of the

SCTE-65 regulation (mainly used in USA).

Alarms Defaults: Returns all the alarms settings to the default factory values.

Warning: The setup parameters must be handled by an expert. An arbitrary

change may cause problems in the system.

System Log: Generates a log with some values of your equipment that may be very useful to our

developers if there is a failure in your equipment. Clicking on the “Download” button, this log will be

automatically downloaded to your computer, so you can send it to us if necessary.

Alarms Report: The RCS automatically generates and sends by e-mail an alarm report. It is also

necessary to select the frequency of the report: None/Weekly/Monthly, as well as the e-mail address

where the user wants to receive the reports. See section 1.2.- Input/Output

SMTP Server Configuration: For the RCS to be able to send the alarm reports correctly to the e-

mail account given by the user, it is necessary to set up the SMTP server parameters.

1.1.2- System Users

The RCS allows access to the system only to registered users.

This screen shows the list of active users in the system. You can also add a new user or delete any

of the existing registered users.

The system comprises 3 types of users: administrator, technician, and viewer. There are no

restrictions on the number of users of each type.

To register a new user, enter the complete name, the user name and the password. You must

repeat the password to verify that there has been no error. The system checks that everything is

correct, and if so, enables the Add button. When you click this button, the new user will be

registered.

To delete a user, you must click the Delete button (red cross), that is placed at the left of the user

name.

Administrators have full access to all the menus and all the functions of the RCS. Administrators can

lock all the inputs they want (see section 1.2.- Input/Output).

Technicians can check all the inputs, but in those locked ones can not change the function.

Technicians can access to the setup menu, but they can not lock the inputs.

Viewers can only see the RCS in the mode the administrator left it.

Viewers can not access to the setup menu.

1.1.3.- System Info

This feature shows the system versions.

In the Status section, you can see the time since the last reboot.

You can see more information by clicking on “Extended Info” button:

Warning: There may be up to 8 users connected to the same RCS at the same

time. Administrators can disconnect other users from the RCS. You can see

the list of connected users by clicking on the icon placed on the top right part of

the screen

Then the firmware update process will be explained:

1.- When the user enter the System Info menu, the meter automatically checks for a new version. First of all, the RCS checks if it has an USB flash drive connected. If so, the RCS looks for a new

firmware version in the USB flash drive. So you can download the last version from our web:

www.gsertel.com and save it in the root directory of the USB flash drive and connect it to the RCS

(See section Description of Equipment Components).

If the RCS finds no USB flash drive, then it will try to connect to our server via internet to check the

latest firmware version available. This is possible provided that the RCS is connected to the

Internet.

If the RCS is not connected to the internet, the user can select an update file from his computer (it

must be previously downloaded from our web page

https://www.gsertel.com/documents/RCS/update_files/). The RCS verifies that the file is correct and

that it is a newer version. If not, an information message will be shown.

In any case, if an update is available, the system displays the following message:

2.- In such a case, click on the “UPDATE” button:

4.- After the update, system will show the message “UPDATE FINISHED. Update successful. The

system is going to reboot”.

NOTE: Browsers use to store in an own cache the last webs visited. After the

update some browsers could show an old web stored in cache, instead of the

new (updated) RCS web. To avoid this, it is necessary to erase browser cache

Below it will be explained the steps you must follow to erase the browser cache for Google Chrome

1.2.- Input/Output

This feature allows enable all the inputs/outputs that the user wants to, both RF and ASI or IP

(option 902518).

This Windows depends on the RCS model: RCS100 has 1 RF input, 1 ASI input and up to 8 IP

stream input (option 902518), and the RCS400 has 4 RF inputs, 4 ASI inputs, and up to 8 IP stream

input (option 902518).

To setup the RCS inputs and outputs the web application has an inputs/outputs matrix. The inputs

are placed on the left side of the matrix, and the outputs on the right side.

The grey color indicates that the input is disabled.

The blue color indicates that the input is enabled, the signal is locked and operating in polling mode.

The yellow color indicates that the input is enabled, the signal is locked and operating in spectrum

mode.

The green color indicates that the input is enabled, the signal is locked and operating in a mode

different from polling and spectrum.

The RCS 400 has the capability to operate with 12 signals at the same time, so if it has the option

902518 (IP inputs), the user must select the inputs he wants to operate with. So, if a RCS400 has

12 enabled inputs, the user must disable one of them if he wants to enable a new one.

In the right side of the matrix, you can see a panel with the parameters needed to set up that input

or output.

All the parameters are explained bellow.

Inputs:

- Alias: is a name that the user can assign to the input and that will appear in the top bar of the

web application, allowing the user identifies the input easily.

- Enable: allows enable/disable the input.

- Admin Lock: all the inputs may be locked by the administrator (Admin Lock). See section

1.3.- System users.

If an input is locked, the users that are not administrator can not change the tab to access to

anothe feature. They can only see that input in the operating mode that the administrator

selected.

- Impedance (only for RF inputs): allows select the input impedance.

- Enable Alarms Report: if you select ON, you indicate to the RCS that you want to receive an

alarm report of this input in your e-mail account. See section 1.1.1.- System.

Outputs:

There are 3 output types: ASI, IP (option 902518 for RCS100 and RCS400) and Stream to local. All

of them have the enable/disable switch.

- ASI outputs: the Source parameter allows select the input signal the user wants to have at

the ASI output.

- Stream to Local output: allows send the stream using the control Ethernet connector. The

stream can be sent to the IP of the computer that is controlling the RCS (Stream to local

mode Auto) or to any other IP (Strem to local Manual), in this case the user must enter the

IP address and the port. In addition there is a button that allows stop the transmission.

- IP outputs: allows send the stream using any Ethernet connector, except the control one

(use the Network interface switch). The stream can be sent to any IP. The user must enter

the IP address and the port. In addition there is a button that allows stop the transmission.

From any sheet of the application, the user can easily select the desired input from all the enabled

ones. Just clicking the corresponding button on the top right of the screen.

1.3.- Channel Plans

1.3.1.- RF Channel Plans

This feature allows to select, delete, export and import RF channel plans. As well as to assign an

alarms profile to each channel (see section 1.5.1.- Alarms Profiles). The RCS allows to choose a

different alarms profile for each channel of the plan.

You can select the channel plan using the dropdown list placed in the left side of the screen. So you

can see all the channels in the right side. The plan that you choose will be used in all the features.

You can delete the selected plan or export it to a .CSV file.

To edit a RF channel plan you must export it to a .CSV file, make the changes in the .CSV file and

then import it to the RCS. Note: the information about the alarms profile won’t be exported/imported

to the .CSV file.

For each channel of the plan, the user must select a profile for each type of alarm. To do that, click

on the “Edit profile” button, a popup window will be open. This window allows to select the

corresponding profiles to all the types of alarms (RF, ETR290, Services and PID) for each RF input:

If the RCS has “user_selection” profiles (see section 1.5.1.- Alarms Profiles), these are the profiles

assigned by default to all the channels of the plan. If the RCS has not “user_selection” profiles, then

the profiles assigned by default are the “Factory default” ones.

You can also assign the factory default profiles to all the channels. To do that, please press the

“Restore Factory Default Profiles”.

If you want to assign the same profiles to all the channels, please press the “Bulk Configuration”

button, so a popup window will be open:

1.3.2.- ASI

This feature allows to assign an alarms profile to each ASI input (see section 1.5.1.- Alarms

Profiles).

For each channel of the plan, the user must select a profile for each type of alarm: ASI, ETR290,

Services and PID Blacklist. If the RCS has “user_default” profiles (see section 1.3.1.- Alarms

Profiles), these are the profiles assigned by default to all the channels of the plan. If the RCS has

not “user_selection” profiles, then the profiles assigned by default are the “Factory default” ones.

You can also assign the factory default profiles to all the channels. To do that, please press the

1.3.3.- IP Channel Plans (only for IP inputs - option 902518 for RCS100 and RCS400-)

This feature allows to select, create, delete, edit, import and export IP channel plans. As well as to

assign an alarms profile to each channel (see section 1.5.1.- Alarms Profiles). The RCS allows to

choose a different alarms profile for each channel of the plan.

The channel plan list is placed in the left side of the screen.

To select a channel plan, click on the button placed on the right of the plan. The channels of the

selected plan are shown on the right side of the screen.

The channel plans features are explained below:

Active: Chooses the channel plan that will be used in all the functions of the meter. The active

channel plan is marked in blue.

New: Creates a new channel plan.

Copy: Copies the selected channel plan.

Rename: Allows rename the selected channel plan.

Note: When you upgrade your RCS to version 6.00, an IP channel plan (named default) will be added to the list with your IP configuration.

Warning: When IP input is configured in Manual mode at any of the measurements windows (so, it has not any Alarms profile assigned to it), the last alarms profiles used will be applied automatically

Delete: Deletes the selected channel plan. Note: the active channel plan can not be deleted.

Export: Exports the selected channel plan to a .CSV file. The alarms profiles won’t be exported to

the .CSV file.

Import: Import a channel plan from a previously created file using the Export function. Using the

Export and Import features, you can copy a channel plan from a RCS to another. The alarms

profiles won’t be exported to the file. The alarms profiles won’t be imported from the .CSV file.

All the channels of the selected plan are shown in the right side of the screen. To select a channel,

click on the button placed on the right of the channel.

Each channel has the following fields:

- Channel name: Up to 10 characters

- IP destino: Multicast/Unicast (for example 224.1.1.1)

- Port: Destination port

- Mode: RTP/UDP

- Source IP: Traffic source Unicast IP.

- Check source: If YES option is selected, only will be received the traffic from the source

specified in the Source IP field. If you select YES, Source IP field must be filled.

- VLAN ID: Allows select the VLAN ID. It also allows add/change the VLAN list. This feature

will be explained later in this manual (see section VLAN Table Editor).

- Network IFACE: Selects the physical interface of the input traffic.

- IP: is the IP alarms profile assigned to the channel (*).

- ETR290: is the ETR290 alarms profile assigned to the channel (*).

- SERVICES: is the services alarms profile assigned to the channel (*).

- PID: is the PID Blacklist alarms profile assigned to the channel (*).

(*) For each channel of the plan, the user must select a profile for each type of alarm: IP, ETR290,

Services and PID. If the RCS has “user_selection” profiles (see section 1.3.1.- Alarms Profiles),

these are the profiles assigned by default to all the channels of the plan. If the RCS has not

“user_selection” profiles, then the profiles assigned by default are the “Factory default” ones.

You can also assign the factory default profiles to all the channels. To do that, please press the

“Restore Factory Default Profiles”.

If you want to assign the same profiles to all the channels, please press the “Bulk Configuration”

button.

VLAN Table Editor

You can edit the VLAN table using the VLAN selecting the New/Edit option in the VLAN ID field of

any channel of the list:

If you select New/Edit option, a new window will be open with the VLAN list:

You must provide an unique unicast IP address to each VLAN. The network interface that you

select in the corresponding field of the channel (TSoIP1/TSoIP2) will use this IP address. So, the

same VLAN can’t be assigned to both network interfaces.

The channel features are explained below:

Save Changes: Saves the changes made to the channel list. If you don’t click this button, the

changes will not be applied to the plan.

New Channel: Adds a new channel to the plan.

Delete Channel: Deletes the selected channel from the plan.

1.4.- Utilities

1.4.1.- DataBase Management

System alarms are saved in the meter database, grouped by months. The user can delete from the

database the groups he wants to.

To do that, select the months files that you want to delete and the click on the “Delete selected

archives” button:

If you select Auto delete ON, when the database occupies all the memory reserved for it, the oldest

files will be automatically removed to free memory to save the new alarms.

If you select Save Services Information ON, id addition to measurements and alarms, the services

information and the bitrates will be saved.

For meters that have had a firmware version older than 5.00, all the alarms generated by the RCS

before the update date, will be saved in a file named “BEFORE” followed by the the meter update

date.

1.4.2.- Import/Export

To make a backup copy for subsequent cloning, you must click the Export button. Then select the

file to download it.

The system allows make a total or a partial cloning. This way, an expert user can manage all his

equipments in a flexible way.

To restore a backup copy, you must first select the type of data that the user wants to recover from

the file. You can restore configuration data, measurements quality values, bitrate profiles, and

channel plans. Once you have select the data you want to restore, you must enter the configuration

file name and click the Send button. The data will be loaded and the RCS will be configured

automatically.

1.4.3.- Cloning

This feature allows the user to save in his/her computer a file containing the all the parameters

settings of your RCS. Then you can load this file to another RCS. This is an easy way to have all

your RCS with the same configuration, as well as to have a settings backup.

Warning: This feature must be handled by an expert. A restoration involves the loss of the current values.

1.5.- Profiles

1.5.1.- Alarms Profiles

Using this window, you can setup the alarms that the system will generate.

There are several types of alarms: RF, ASI, IP, ETR290, Services, PID Blacklist and PID Bitrate.

In fact, the PID Blacklist is not a list of alarms. It is a list of PID that the user wants to ignore, that is,

the alarms generated in the PID included in the Blacklist will not be activated, so the user will not

see them.

You can configure as many alarms profiles of each type as you want (max. 256 profiles). The RCS

allows to assign a different profile of each type to each channel (see section 1.3.1- Channel Plans),

except the PID bitrate ones, that are assigned to services.

There are four controls that are common to almost all the profile types (RF, ASI, IP and ETR290):

TS Rec., Active, Type and Trap.

TS Rec: Turning on the control corresponding to the “TS Rec.” column, alarm controls can be

individually configured to start recording when the corresponding alarm occurs (the time elapsed

since the TS Rec. is turned ON until it begins to record is 1 minute). These TS recordings are added

to the list of TS recordings (See section 3A.7.- TS Recorder). The name of the recordings

corresponding to alarm events includes the name of the alarm.

Active: User can activate or deactivate each alarm and set the parameters for each alarm as well.

Type: For each alarm you must select what type it is: Info (blue), Warning (yellow), Error (red).

Trap: The RCS system incorporates a SNMP server to send traps of the generated alarms selected

using this control to a server selected by the user. To configure it see section 1.1.1.- System

Configuration.

RCS alarms work in a way that the system generates an alarm message each time an alarm

event begins, and an end-alarm message once the alarm situation is ended.

The alarms configuration depends on the profile type and on whether the meter is in polling mode or

not.

If the system is not in polling mode, the alarms configuration is different for transport measurement

alarms and for RF measurements alarms. Explanation below:

ETR290 and Services Alarms Profile types:

As you can see in the image above, there are 3 parameters to configure, in addition to the

measurement threshold: Time ON, Time OFF and N(num).

The system generates an alarm-on message when the alarm is out of the thresholds at least N

times during a set period of time (Time ON). Once the measurement is back into the measurement

thresholds during a set period of time (Time OFF), the system generates an alarm-off message.

These periods of time are taken into account to the measurements stabilization, so the system

avoids that alarm-on and alarm-off messages are continually generated.

NOTE: The colors of the bars of the measurements listed in the several

application windows, correspond with the colors of the alarm thresholds: blue

if it is on the threshold of "Info", yellow if you are on the threshold of "Alert",

red if it is on the threshold of "Error", and green in the case that the

measurement is correct.

RF measurements

In this case there are not time parameters, but a hysteresis one. The hysteresis allows to provide

the stabilization measurement margin. This parameter is a value added or substracted from the

threshold to generate the alarm-off message. The alarm-on message is generated when the

measurement get out of the threshold.

When the system is in polling mode, the stabilization margin is provided by the number of cycles

during wich a measurement is out of the thresholds (Cycles ON). In the polling mode, the alarms

configuration works in the same way for both transport and RF measurements.

The number of cycles may be between 1 and 120. So, the Cycles ON parameter indicates the

number of polling cycles during wich a measurement must be out of the thresholds for the system to

generate the activated alarm warning.

Once the measurement is back within the thresholds, the alarm-off message is generated

immediately.

The PID bitrates alarms profiles must be explained separately:

The user must indicate for each profile the max and min values of the bitrate range. When the

bitrate is out of this range, the system generates an alarm. See section 3.1.- Bitrate to know how to

assign the profiles.

1.5.2.- Bitrate Measure Profile

Allows to enable the bitrate measure profiles.

In the left-hand column there is a list of the profiles as defined in the ETR290, with their

corresponding parameters: T is the total period of time, N is the number of windows of time and t is

the duration of each window of time.

The size of the elements refers to the bytes taken into account. 188 is the total number of bytes,

and payload are the bytes corresponding to the information. In the case of SI/PSI tables the bytes

taken into account will be all the bytes of the table. In the case of audio and video, the bytes taken

into account will be the P packets.

The user can choose the profiles that he wants to active for the transport streams, for the tables, for

the Audio/Video services and for other services.

clicking on the Profiles button at the top bar of the window:

This feature allows the user have a global vision of the status of the selected input in a single

screen.

This feature is available for RF inputs and for ASI inputs, but there are some differences depending

on the type of the selected input (RF or ASI).

The user can select the channel he wants to analyze by clicking the drop down list placed on the top

left corner of the screen.

You can also see a mosaic with the screenshots of all the services of the channel that are refreshed continually. Right-click on a screenshot to see the submenu explained bellow

Purple : there isn’t any active alarm currently, but there was one active alarm at least, since the

last time the alarm cache was deleted.

Filters: by clicking the corresponding buttons, you can filter the alarms you want to see in the list

according to color, type or active/all alarms.

Clear Alarms: there is a limited alarms cache for each RCS input. The cache is deleted when you

click this button, and all the active alarms are deactivated, so a series of deactivation alarms will

appear.

Pause Alarms: the list placed in the bottom is being continuously updated, and to check an alarm

can be difficult if there are many of them. This button allows pause the update of the list, so you can

check a particular alarm.

Services section

Following you can see the Services section in detail:

As you can see, there is a graph representing the distribution of transport services and the bitrate.

Next to each service there are three icons:

Enables and disables the transmission of the selected service or transport to

the IP indicated selected IP. You can select to transmit the stream to the local

IP or to another IP indicated indicated in paragraph Output IP of the setup

menu (see section 1.2 Input / Output). If you select the Transport Stream

instead of a service, the RCS will sen the whole TS to the indicated IP.

Note: In case of the RCS and control PC be in different networks, streaming

problems can happen because of routing protocols. Please, check your

network configuration, specially NAT protocol.

Enables HDMI output to display the image of the selected service (Enable

service) o the images of all the channel services (Enable carreousel). In this

latter case each service will be displayed for a few seconds and the next

Shows a popup window with the loudness graph of the selected service,

according to EBU Tech Doc 3341:

The chart at the right shows the loudness short term measurement in the last

2 minutes, while the chart at the left shows the hystogram.

The EBU Tech Doc 3341 stablishes a maximum value, indicated in the charts

with the background color: the mean loudness value must be in the dark blue

zone.

The user can enable the alarm corresponding to the loudness measurement,

included in the type of alarm “Service” (see section 1.5.1.- Alarms profiles).

Circles colors match the color of the worst alarm generated during the period of time that has

been measured.

When the IP input is selected, the measurements shown in the “All In One” window are the

following: o Packet arrival maximum: It is the maximum interval of arrival between packets in

one second.

o Packet arrival minimum: It is the minimum interval of arrival between packets

in one second.

o IP payload bitrate: It is the bitrate of the IP packets payload.

o UDP payload bitrate: It is the bitrate of the UDP packets payload.

o Media loss rate: It is the ratio between the number of uncorrected wrong

packets by the total number of packets received per second.

o Loss IP frame: It is the number of uncorrected wrong packets.

o Corrected IP frames: It is the number of corrected wrong packets.

For all the inputs, if your RCS has the option 902564 and the CI card is placed in the slot (see

section Description of Equipment Components), the screenshots will be shown using the card,

so only the images of the services decoded with the card will be shown.

If you click on the CI card icon (see image above), a popup window will be open to show the card

3.- TS Analysis

This feature allows a comprehensive analysis of the content of the input signal.

The display screen is the same, regardless of the selected input (RF or ASI).

The user can select the channel he wants to analyze by clicking the drop down list placed on the top

left corner of the screen.

The TS Analysis window has several sheets, explained bellow:

3.1.- Bit Rate

This function allows us to see in detail bitrate values for the selected channel and all its services

You can see a graph in the upper left side of the screen that shows the evolution of bitrate of each

channel services (each channel correspond to a color) in the time period selected by the user from

the dropdown that appears just below the graph.

Below the chart there is a list of all the channel services with their corresponding bitrates. The colors

of the bars correspond to the colors of the services in the chart above. The maximum and minimum

values of the bitrate the service has reached during the time that has been measured are also

shown in bars

A list of all packages of all channel services and the bitrate of each of these packages appears on

the right side of the screen.

Click to assign a monitoring profile to the selected PID. See section 1.4.2.- PID bitrate profiles to know how to create a new profile

By selecting one of the services from the list placed on the right, a more detailed information about it

will be shown.

3.2.- Table Repetition

This feature shows a list with all the packets of all the services of the selected channel and the time

elapsed (interval) between two consecutive receptions of the table for each one, as well as the

maximum and minimum values of the measured interval elapsed since it began measuring time.

3.3.- EPG

This feature shows the electronic program guide of the channel:

Placing the mouse over one of the events, a popup window will be shown displaying the information

about that event:

3.4.- PCR Jitter -Option 902512-

This feature shows two graphs that represent the PCR jitter and the PCR interval of a selected

MPEG Video.

On the left side of the screen, there is a list with all the services of the channel. The user must select a MPEG Video to see the PCR jitter and PCR interval graphs on the right side of the screen.

The PCR (Program Clock Reference) is a timestamp included in some particular packets of the

MPEG Transport Stream that is used for the video decoder can reconstruct the clock with which it

was generated the video stream and thus have the right temporal references .

The PCR jitter is a measure of the frequency stability of PCR timestamps. A high jitter may cause the decoder is unable to reconstruct the clock correctly and so, the video does not decode properly. The standard indicates that jitter must be less than + - 500 ns. In graph it is represented the PCR jitter of the selected video, as well as two red lines, the upper and lower limit at which the PCR jitter alarm is set. The PCR interval is a measure of the range of arrival of the packets carrying the PCR seals. The standard indicates that interval must be <40 ms. If it is higher, it is possible that the video decoder is unable to reconstruct the video generation clock correctly. In the graph, it is represented the range of arrival of the PCR packets, and the red line represents the upper limit at which the PCR repetition alarm is set.

The user can select the time interval to be displayed, as well as the scale of the graphs.

3.5.- Tree View

This feature shows the channel information in tree view format

Each service corresponds to a node of the tree, where the service ID and the name is displayed

besides.

By expanding a node, they are shown all the packets of the service with the ID of each one and the

information about the packet type. And if you click on a packet in the left side of the screen, the

information about that packet will be shown in the right side of the screen.

When a video or audio service is encrypted, two more icons will be displayed next to the

video/audio icon: a lock indicates that the service is encrypted and an “E” (even) or an “O” (odd)

indicating the scramble status:

3.6.- Service Monitoring-Option 902558-

This feature allows to detect changes in the selected services y it activates an alarm when this

occurs.

To do that, the user should create templates for each service he wants to monitor. When you click

on the “Monitor” button, a table with the PIDs of the service will be shown in the right side of the

screen. The user can modify this template adding or removing PIDs, or changing the name of the

service.

You can create up to two different templates for the same service. When the configuration of a

monitored service does not correspond with any of the templates, a “service monitoring” alarm is

activated. If the service name of the template does not correspond with the template, a “service

name” alarm will be activated.

When there are two templates for the same service and the service name is different for each

template, the RCS will choose the template with PIDs match. If the service name does not

correspond with the name of the template, a “service name” alarm will be activated.

3.7.- RDS Analysis

This feature shows the information of the RDS. A list of the available services is shown on the left

part of the window, and on the right you can see all the information about the selected service:

3.8.- TS Recorder

Allows to record the transport stream of the selected channel in any of its inputs. The file will be

saved in the RCS memory.

There are two ways of operation:

1.- Instant recording: When no event recordings are configured, or when they are disabled. The

“REC” button is enabled. To start recording, press the “REC” button. To stop recording, press the

“STOP” button. While the RCS is recording, a message appears in the upper bar of the window.

2.- Event Recording: When there are recordings configured by alarms (1.5.1.- Alarms Profiles). The

“REC” button is disabled. You can disable this mode of operation pressing the “STOP” button (the

configuration of the alarms will not be deleted). To enable the event recording mode, press the

“EVENT REC” button. When the Event Recording is enabled, a message appears in the upper bar

of the window that indicates that the RCS is recording or waiting for the next event.

The recording duration depends on the bitrate of the transport stream and the available space in the

memory (you can store several recordings). Bellow the buttons, there is a bar graph that shows the

available recording time, depending on the bit rate and available space in memory. Next to the bar

there is a text that indicates whether the RCS is saving the recording to the internal or external disk.

In the case of Event Recording, the user must configure the time interval that he wants to record before and after the event (see section 1.1.1.-System). Both in event recording as in instant recording, the user can choose between recording all the services of the cannel o only one service. To do that drop down the “Select Services” list:

In the bottom is a list of all recordings stored in the memory. On the right side of the name of the file,

it is shown its size, as well as three buttons: the first one allows delete the file, the second one

allows to download the file to the computer, and the third one allows save the file in a USB memory

connected to the RCS.

NOTE 1: Since the RCS is turned on there is an interval of one minute in

which no events will be recorded.

NOTE 2: No more than one event will be recorded every minute.

NOTE 3: When the input is in polling mode (see section 7.- Polling), the

event recording will be disabled

NOTE 4: If the user changes the selected channel to another with the event

recording selected in the alarms profiles, it is not necessary to enable the

event recording again. But if the alarms profiles of the new channel don’t

have any event recording selected, this feature will be disabled.

4.- RF Analysis

This feature allows a comprehensive analysis of the RF input.

This feature is not available when the IP input is selected (option 902518).

The user can select the channel he wants to analyze by clicking the drop down list placed on the top

left corner of the screen.

The RF Analysis window has several sheets, explained bellow:

4.1.- Measurements

In this window you can see a graph with the evolution of the measurements in a time interval

selected by the user.

The colors of the bars are related to the alarms thresholds.

Circles colors match the color of the worst alarm generated during the period of time that has been

measured

To check the configuration of the alarms, see section 7.- Alarms

On the right side of the window, measurements are shown in real time.

At the bottom a table of alarms detected by the RF system is shown. Clicking on an alarm of the list,

a window with detailed information will be open.

4.2.- Constellation -Option 902511-

This feature shows the constellation of the RF signal. Bellow the constellation, the RF

measurements are shown in real time (Power, C/N, MER, BER -Annex A/C- or PreBER and

PostBER -Annex B-)

The colors of the bars are related to the alarms thresholds.

Circles colors match the color of the worst alarm generated during the period of time that has been

measured

5.- Spectrum -Option 902511-

This feature is available only when the input selected is RF.

This feature shows the spectrum of the selected signal.

In the left side of the screen, you can see the signal spectrum. The reference level is automatically

selected according to the signal level.

The measurements of the selected channel (Power and C/N) are shown above the spectrum graph,

as well as the RBW and the span.

The start, centre and end frequency are shown below the graph. The user can enter a numeric

value clicking on them and using the keyboard.

Marks: As you can see in the image above, there are two markers in the spectrum that the user can

move to see the signal level in a particular frequency. The measurements corresponding to the

markers and the level difference between them (Delta function) are shown on the right side of the

screen. The user can also select the frequencies of the markers using the numeric keypad, for that

you must click on the box in the table on the right.

Spectrum options: The spectrum options are shown below the markers measurements:

*Span: The user can select one of the predefined by clicking on the corresponding button.

*Reference Level: Allows select the reference level value.

*Maximum and minimum: Enables/disables the max. and min. graphs:

As you can see in the image above, when the maximum and/or minimum hold functions are active,

the maximum and minimum levels of the markers will also be shown.

*Channel BW: Allows you to enable/disable the marks corresponding to the bandwidth in the

graph.

*Marks: Allows enable/disable the marks in the graph.

*Export spectrum as PNG: Allows exporting the spectrum image as a PNG file.

Mask options: The user can also define a mask pressing the button “New Mask”, and selecting the

minimum and maximum offset allowed. So, when the signal level gets out of that range, the

corresponding alarm will be generated, that will be shown at the bottom of the screen. To remove

the mask, press the “Disable” button.

If you click on the “Save” button, the mask will be saved. It is necessary to assign a name to the

mask:

Mask list: All the masks saved in the RCS will be displayed in this list. You can delete a mask by

clicking on the “Delete mask” of the selected mask. Or you can load a mask to the spectrum graph

by clicking on the “Load mask” button of the corresponding mask.

At the bottom of the window all alarms for the tuned channel are shown, as well as those relating to

the selected mask, if one is present. Clicking on an alarm of the list, a window with detailed

information will be open.

6.- Polling

Using this feature, the RCS is able to monitor sequentially all the channels that the user has

selected in the channel plan.

Polling feature is available only for RF and IP inputs (IP inputs only for option 902518 for RCS100

and RCS400).

When the user selects another window of the application, the RCS displays a warning notifying you

that is going to stop polling mode.

The Polling window has three sheets, explained bellow:

6.1.- Polling

This is the window where measurements are displayed. But there are some differences between RF

input and IP input.

If it is selected a RF input, the polling window looks like this:

On the center of the window, there is a bar graph of power measurement. The colors of the bars

depend on the alarms: if a cannel has an active alarm, the bar shows the color of the alarm (red,

yellow or blue). If the cannel doesn’t have any active alarm, the bar may have two colors:

Green: there wasn’t any active alarm since the last time the alarms cache was deleted.

Purple: there isn’t any active alarm currently, but there was one active alarm at least, since the last

time the alarm cache was deleted.

Bellow the graph, you can see a list of the alarms generated. Clicking on an alarm of the list, a

window with detailed information will be open.

To the right of the graph is the real-time spectrum of the channel that is being monitored, as well as

its measurements.

To the left of the graph is a table with the last measurements made in each channel, as well as the

information of each channel (modulation parameters, network name, etc). There is also a button

“Set POWER Reference Level” that initializes the limit of the power measurement below which the

fading alarm must be trigger. The new power reference level is the current power measure.

If it is selected an IP input, the polling window looks like this:

In the left side of the screen there is a list of the channels that are being monitored and the IP

measurements obtained in the last measurement of each channel is displayed.

In the right side of the screen there is a list with the IP real-time measurements of the channel that is

being measured, as well as the bitrates of the channel.

In the center of the window, there is a graph of all the channels. The colors of the buttons depend

on the alarms: if a channel has an active alarm, the button shows the color of the alarm (red, yellow

or blue). If the cannel doesn’t have any active alarm, the button may have two colors:

Green: there wasn’t any active alarm since the last time the alarms cache was deleted.

Purple: there isn’t any active alarm currently, but there was one active alarm at least, since the last

time the alarm cache was deleted.

Bellow the graph, you can see a list of the alarms generated. The alarms can be filtered by channel

using the dropdown list “Filter by channel”. Clicking on an alarm of the list, a window with detailed

information will be open.

If you click on the buttons, a new window will be open:

This window shows the real-time measurements of the channel, the transport stream and services

bitrates, and a pie graph that shows all the services of the channel.

In addition, the alarms will be filtered automatically by channel.

6.2.- Historical Pollings

This feature allows you to visualize all the measurements made by your RCS with the polling

function.

Each list of measurements is identified with the date and time of the start of polling and the date and

time of completion of the same.

Clicking on the selected button, a .csv file will be generated. You can download to you computer the

file by clicking on the “Download file polling.csv” button.

6.3.- Configuration

Using this feature, the user can configure all the parameters that take part in the polling mode. The

window of this feature is different depending on the type of input (IP or RF).

If the selected input is RF, the user must set: locking time, stabilizing time and measuring

time, as well as selecting the channels that the user wants to monitor.

The maximum locking time is the maximum time during wich the RCS will try to lock the signal.

The stabilizing time is the time that the RCS must wait for the measurements to stabilize, one the

signal is locked.

The measuring time is the time during wich the RCS makes the measurements and generates the

alarms in each channel. Once the time has elapsed, the RCS tunes the next channel.

In the channel selection table the user can select the channels he wants to include in the monitoring

Polling.

If the selected input is IP, the user must set the maximum locking time and the measuring

time, as well as select the channels that he or she wants to monitor.

The maximum locking time is the maximum time during wich the RCS will try to lock the signal.

The measuring time is the time during wich the RCS makes the measurements and generates the

alarms in each channel. Once the time has elapsed, the RCS tunes the next channel.

In the channel selection table the user can select the channels he wants to include in the monitoring

Polling. As you can see in the image above, if the same channel is present in more than one input,

the channel is orange and it is not possible to select it.

7.- Alarms

In this window the user can see all the alarms generated by the RCS.

7.1.- View

In this window the user can see a graph of the generated alarms in a period of time selected by the

user. The data shown in the graph can be filtered by several parameters, using the buttons placed

on the right side of the window. On the bottom of the window there is a table with the latest alarms

generated by the system.

If you RCS has installed the 902512 option, you will have a detailed information about generated

alarms because that option allows the user the access to historical logs (see Section 7.- Historical).

8.- Historical

This feature allows check all the alarms generated by the RCS in a period of time selected by the

user.

To select the date range, you must select the initial and final date, and click the “Search” button.

As you can see above, the window shows a graph with all the alarms generated in that time frame.

Below the graph, there is a table with a resume of the alarms.

You can download the measures and the alarms to a .xls file with more than 50000 lines, clicking on

the Download Measures and Alarms button. To stop this process, click on Stop Download button.

To see the alarms in more detail, you can select a smaller time frame by selecting a zone in the

graph:

Once you select the zone, click the “Search” button again. So you can see the alarms generated in

the new time frame. If the number of alarms generated is high, you will see a summary in the table

at the bottom of the window. But if the number of alarms is small, you can see the detailed

information of all the alarms:

By clicking on one of the lines in this table, a pop-up window will show all the alarms of that type

indicating the channel where it has occurred:

By clicking on “Download data”, a .csv file will be generated with all the information of the table.

Local Features

Info

Using the keyboard of the RCS, the user can check the information of the equipment, as well as

setup the IP and the language. You can also check the status of the RF inputs, and shut down your

equipment in an orderly manner.

The information relating to the network is shown on the left part of the screen: IP, GW and mask.

The information relating to the equipment is shown on the right: firmware version, serial number and

date and hour.

Pressing the Setup button, the user can setup the IP and the language.

When the RCS starts, the display will show the Info menu. By default, the RCS shipped in DHCP

mode, so the IP will be selected automatically:

To enter a certain fixed IP, press the Setup button and select the STATIC option. Then you must

enter an IP address within the range of your network, using the buttons.

To check the status of the RF inputs, press the button to select the Status menu:

To shut down your equipment in an orderly manner, select “Exit”:

Once you confirm the shut down, the RCS will save all the information before it shuts down

definitively.

Brightness

The user can increase or decrease the brightness of the screen pressing the buttons Home and

or at the same time.

Maintenance

Cleaning

Always disconnect the unit before cleaning. Use only a mild solution of detergent and water applied

with a soft damp cloth. Dry thoroughly before use.

Do not use aromatic hydrocarbons or chlorinated solvents. These products may damage the unit.

Do not use alcohol or alcohol based products on the front panel, especially the display. These

products may damage the unit.

Replacing fuses

The RCS uses two T1AL 250V crystal 5x20mm fuses. The fuses are placed in the back of the

equipment, on the right side (See section Description of the Equipment Components).

Before removing the fuses case, make sure you removed the power connector (See section

Description of the Equipment Components).

Then, remove the case pressing the tabs placed at the top and bottom of the case using a sharp

object.

Once removed the fuses case, pull the damaged fuses out, then put the new ones and replace the

case. Make sure the tabs are properly positioned.

Then you can now connect the power connector and make sure that you equipment works properly.

In compliance with IATA Regulations, when using our shipping service follow these instructions:

Label the package.

The equipment should fit as snugly as possible in the box. It is recommended to use the

original packing materials.

Failure to comply with these shipping requirements may result in the shipping agent rejecting the

package.

Warranty

Gsertel offers a one year guarantee, beginning from the date of purchase for countries in the EEC.

For countries that are not part of the EEC, the legal guarantee that is in force at the time of

purchase is applied.

Keep the purchase invoice to determine this date.

During the guarantee period, Gsertel becomes position of the failures produced by defect of the

material or manufacture.

The harm produced by improper usage, wear and tear, manipulation by a third party, catastrophes

or any other cause beyond the control of Gsertel is not included in the guarantee.
