S St ti i l l e e & & R Ra ai i l l - The vertical members of the door frame are referred to as Stiles. The horizontal members are referred to as Rails. Cabinets generally use 2" wide stiles and rails in raised panel door construction. R Ra ai i s se ed d P Pa an ne el l - Panels are usually made of 5 /8" or 3 /4" thick stock. The panel is made 1 /2" wider and 1 /2" taller than the opening made by the inside dimensions of frame (not the cabinet opening.) This allows for 1 /4" tongue insertions into the stile and rail grooves on each of the four sides. T T y yp pe e o of f D Do oo or r S St ty yl le e - Top rail and panel can be made with one continuous arch or with flat “shoulders” on either end of the arch. Keep this in mind before cutting the pieces to size. INSTRUCTIONS: A Ar r c ch he ed d T T o op p R Ra ai il l: : Select proper size and style of top rail template for the doors you are making. NOTE: Make certain that you allow at least 1 /4" to 1 /2" around the entire perimeter of each door to overlap face frame. Place top rail pattern onto your stock and secure by tack nailing or using double-faced tape. Rough cut approximately 1 /8" away from the pattern’s edge. Flush cut stock using a router with a pattern or flush trim bit against your pattern. The top rail should measure 4" wide at each end and about 2" in width at the center point. Complete your door frame using your stile and rail cutter assembly. A Ar r c ch he ed d P Pa an ne el l : : Select the proper size and style arched panel template. Properly secure the template to your stock. In order for the panel to fit properly into the stile sections of your door, you must first take the following measurement precautions: 1. Remember that the “Center Point” of the arched sections of the rail and panel should measure about 2" in width. 2. Keep in mind that you should reduce the width of the panel by at least 1 /16" on both “sides” of the panel. This will allow some room for expansion and contraction of the panel within the stile sections. When using Cathedral or like profile Templates, the flat portion of the rail should stay as consistent as possible for the aesthetics of the door. WH 097 06 #024
