    As acceptable alternatives to the rebar shown in the PRECAST BASESECTION, fibers (placed according to the Standard Specifications), orwire mesh having a minimum area of 0.12 square inches per foot shallbe used with the minimum required rebar shown in the ALTERNATIVEPRECAST BASE SECTION. Wire mesh shall not be placed in theknockouts.

    The knockout diameter shall not be greater than 20". Knockouts shallhave a wall thickness of 2" minimum to 2.5" maximum. Provide a 1.5"minimum gap between the knockout wall and the outside of the pipe.After the pipe is installed, fill the gap with joint mortar in accordancewith Standard Specification 9-04.3.

    The maximum depth from the finished grade to the lowest pipe invertshall be 5.

    The frame and grate may be installed with the flange down, or integrallycast into the adjustment section with flange up.

    The Precast Base Section may have a rounded floor, and the walls maybe sloped at a rate of 1:24 or steeper.

    The opening shall be measured at the top of the Precast Base Section.

    All pickup holes shall be grouted full after the basin has been placed.

    This frame is designed to accommodate 20" 24" grates or covers as shownon Standard Plans B-30.20, B-30.30, B-30.40 and B-30.50.

    When bolt-down grates or covers are specified in the Contract, provide twoholes in the frame that are vertically aligned with the grate or cover slots. Tapeach hole to accept a 5/8" - 11 NC 2" allen head cap screw. Location ofbolt down holes varies among different manufacturers.

    Steel Shaft shall be tapered either round or dodecagon (12-sided), 11-gauge, 4 1/2" O.D. at slipfitter weld. Taper shall be 0.14 inches per foot.

    Hand Holes shall include a removable, rain-tight cover and gasket, fastened with two stainless steel screws (ASTM F 593).

    Clamping Bolts shall be tightened to 50 ft-lbs max. torque. After state inspection, burr threads to prevent nut rotation. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.

    The final height of the Anchor Bolts must be below the top of the Slip Plate Assembly to ensure proper function of the Slip Base.

    All Poles shall be hot dip galvanized per AASHTO M111.

    Grounding Conductor shall be non-insulated #4 AWG stranded copper, provide 3 - 0" min. slack. Clamp to steel reinforcing bar with connector suitable for use embedded in concrete.

    This structure has been designed according to the Fifth Edition 2009 AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires and Traffic Signals. Basic wind velocity is 90 mph, Design Life/Recurrence Interval 50 years, and Fatigue Category III.

    Foundations are designed for Type II, III, and SD SignalStandards with a maximum mast arm length of 65.

    Foundations are designed for Single Mast Arm Standardsand Double Mast Arm Standards with 90 between arms.Special foundation design is required for Double ArmStandards where the angle between mast arms is otherthan 90. For Double Mast Arm Standards with 90 between arms, use larger XYZ value for foundation depth selection.

    Foundations not within the parameters of this standardrequire Special Design. Contact the WSDOT Bridge andStructures Office through the Engineer for SpecialFoundation Designs.

    Foundations constructed within Ecology Embankmentsshall be increased in depth by the depth of the EcologyEmbankment.

    The top 2 feet of the foundation shall use a smoothform (such as paper or cardboard). After the concretehas cured, this entire form shall be removed.

    For design parameters between the values listed in Table,depth requirements may be interpolated between the values provided.

    When the existing soil will not retain a vertical face, over-excavate thefoundation area and install a 36" or 48" diameter corrugated metal(pipe) form. The top of the corrugated metal form shall terminate1 foot below final grade. Continue forming to full height using paperor cardboard form to achieve a smooth finish on final exposed cementconcrete. Support the form as necessary to remain plumb.

    Place the concrete foundation.

    After concrete has cured, removethe entire paper or cardboard formportion.

    Backfill with controlled-density fillor compacted borrow in accordancewith Standard Specification 8-20.3(2).

    If parallel circuits of different sizes are contained in one conduit, the size of the grounding conductor shall be determined on the basis of the largest conductor. Only one grounding conductor is required for each conduit, regardless of thenumber of circuits contained.

    Service ground per serving utility require-ment. If the utility uses aluminum service conductors, an approved Al-Cu pressure- type ground connector shall be used to secure the service neutral to the copper neutral bar in the service enclosure. Except for the above, all grounding conductors shall be copper.

    Equipment grounding conductors and grounding electrode conductors shall be sized in accordance with the National Electric Code (No. 8 minimum).
