BACKGROUND AND V I S ION

The theme of this year’s RCC Conference will be: “New World Order – What’s next for Europe?” In light of the fact that the Western world is fast losing its privileged position and whilst new actors assert themselves, the future of Europe and its economic dominance seem to be at stake. Which economic and political role will Europe play in the future? Which trends are likely to influence the emerging new world order? How can Europe overcome its current political and economic crisis? This 3-day CEMS conference will consist of lectures, skills seminars and presentations, in which selected participants will shed a light on different future scenarios. In this regards, we also will be hosting a panel discussion on

the topic. The panel will include policy maker s , re searcher s and cor pora te representatives.

From January 29th to February 1st 2014 the students of the CEMS Master’s in International Management at the London School of Economics and Political Science will be hosting the first RCC Conference in the heart of London. The goal of the conference is to bring together a range of diverse stakeholders such as academics, corporate partners, political representatives, students and alumni to discuss and share knowledge on the pressing issues and future challenges for Europe.

The purpose and vision of the RCC Conference is not only to familiarize international master students with different topics and relevant debates on global issues but also to build a bridge between the academic, political and corporate world. Out of the conviction that challenges of the 21st century require an ever-growing interplay of different actors from different backgrounds, this conference seeks to i n i t i a t e c l o s e r c o o p e r a t i o n a n d communication among them.

CEMS MASTER ’ S IN INTERNAT IONAL MANAGEMENT

CEMS – The Globa l A l l i ance in Management Education is a strategic alliance of the world’s leading business schools and universities with multinational companies and NGOs. “Rerum Cognoscere Causas” RCC stems from the LSE’s school motto “Rerum Cognoscere Causas” and means “understanding the causes of things”. This phrase implies that no important issue can be fully understood through a single lens. Critical understanding requires the integration of different disciplines, perspectives and ways of thinking, and lays the groundwork for this conference.

120 to 150 hand-picked international students from CEMS and LSE will attend this year’s RCC Conference. Students are selected on the basis of their motivation and previous experience with regard to the subject. A certain number of academics, corporate partners, policy makers, media partners, and CEMS Alumni will be invited. While the workshops will be conducted in small groups of 25-30 students, the speeches and panel discussions aim to address a large audience and will be open to public. Events will take place at the LSE Campus.
