RC Holy Spirit supports district fund-raising project

Tree-planting activity of RC Holy Spirit is re-setDue to time constraints, the clubs tree -planting activity initially sched-uled for Friday, Nov 12, 2010 shall be held at a later date, most likelyin early 2011. Year 2011 has been declared by the United Nations as

Year of the Forests.

The Globalroom Dancing, a fund -raising event of the District 3780Spouses last November 6, 2010 was a huge success. The dance hallwas filled to the brim with Rotarians and guests dancing the nightaway to the music of the renown Nonoy Lopez Band. RCHS Rotari-ans Peth Rivera, Marlene Martinez, Charing Gerochi and Marcia Sal-vador came with their friends in support of the project. IPP Linda also

arrived after another engagement.

Reach Out to Africa

I was a Rotary Scholar at the University of Cape Town in 1961.During my year there, I traveled 16,000 miles through South Africa and the countries now known as Zimbabwe, Zambia, andNamibia. I visited 35 Rotary clubs, met countless Rotarians, andbecame immersed in the rich culture of Southern Africa.

During my initial visit, I developed a deep appreciation for boththe traditions and the challenges of life in Africa, and my respectand admiration for the land and people have caused me to re-turn several times as a Rotarian. Now almost amazingly Ihave a unique opportunity to use my experience as a RotaryScholar to enhance the role of Rotary in Africa!

This is the fourth year of the Reach Out to Africa (ROTA) initia-tive, and the ROTA Committee for this year has been stream-lined to move more quickly and efficiently to achieve its goals.We need to increase the number of Rotarians in Africa! I alsohope to see a substantial increase in international service projects for Africa, particularly those projects with assistance fromThe Rotary Foundation. The ROTA Committee has an excellentwebsite, and I encourage all Rotarians to review itat www.reachouttoafrica.org.

I have implemented two new activities this year to make it easier for Rotarians to visit Africa and to increase their involvement ininternational service projects. The first is Rays Rotary Reun-ions, to be held in Cape Town 3-5 February, and I hope manyRotarians will join me in the Fairest Cape for that event. Thesecond, Rotary Project Safaris, will facilitate visits by Rotariansto the areas of the world where poverty is prevalent, and wherelocal Rotarians have developed many beneficial projects thatneed financial assistance. I am proud to be a product of The Rotary Foundation, and it willbe the most significant achievement of my presidency if I canserve as a catalyst to enhance Rotary in Africa! tures of the electronic version of The Dove , our newsbulletin that is e-mailed to members and severalhundred other addressees here and abroad weekly.The desired outcome is to make our club e-bulletinmore information-laden and fun to read by embed-ding links to multi-media content of selected websites, such as those suggested by the RI President.

Support our Share -a-Toy project on Dec 4th

Our Share-a-Toy project which is intended tobenefit up to 800 children aged 5-10 from thedepressed areas of Bgy Holy Spirit will beheld on Saturday, December 4, 2010. Theproject is chaired by Rtn Kgd Baby Lorenzo.Treas Marcia who co-chairs the project hasalready donated 100 toys for boys and girls.

RCHS members are urged to solicit theneeded toys for this project. Deadline for turn-over of the toys is November 24, 2010.

General Andy graduated from the US Military Academy at West Point, has an MBA from La Salle and masters gree from the University of New South Wales in Australia, and was Deputy AFP Chief of Staff when he retired fmilitary service in 2002.
