Welcome Hello and a big welcome to all imblers, tickers, beer, cider and perry lovers alike to our 1st Rutland CAMRA Multum in Parvo beer festival. 3 years ago a few like minded souls decided that it was time to stand up for our Rutland pubs and its drinkers. After a few meetings with the 3 branches of CAMRA which covered Rutland, our sub branch was formed. As you are reading this, a decision is being made for our full branch status and should be known shortly. We should then have funds to campaign on issues affecting our pubs and its drinkers as we only have 58 pubs and bars left in our county. However, it is not all meetings and campaigns; we also have some great social trips to other parts. If you would like to join our committed band of people then please go to the membership stand or fill in the form in this programme. I want to thank all the Branch members who have helped put this Festival together, it’s been hard work but well worth it, well done. So if you’re a 1st timer or not, please enjoy yourselves here at the museum, sample some new and some more well known beers. Have a great time but please remember to respect our neighbours and drink responsibly. Cheers. We see that the appreciation and availability of real cider hasincreased in the Rutland area in recent times. Several pubs inRutland now stock at least one real cider on a regular basis andsome also have real perry.

Whilst as yet there are no large-scale cider producers in the County, severalsmall-scale individual brewers are emerging. It is hoped that given a regularand sufficient supply of apples these small businesses will flourish; however, cider production close to the Rutland boundary is growing significantly, forexample Jollydale at Stamford and Rockingham Forest at Middleton, are nowgaining momentum. With several other producers based in the East Midlandsthe future for real cider in this part of the country looks extremely promising.

Of course this industry would not exist without a market for cider that actuallytastes like the traditional product should. Getting real cider into pubs so thatthe discerning drinker can try it is the first challenge and this is whereCAMRA can make a difference, by encouraging licensees to stock real ciderand perry and supporting those that do. CAMRA in Rutland has been verysupportive in this and dedicated its February 2011 meeting to cider-tasting!

So, whilst the cider produced in the East Midlands may not yet have thereputation of say Herefordshire or Somerset, I am sure you will enjoy those onoffer here at the very first CAMRA Rutland Multum-in-Parvo Beer Festival.

The question should really be why not?

4 REALLY good reasons for joining CAMRA

1) To support CAMRA as a campaigning organisation

• You will be joining the most successful consumer membership pressure group

ever formed which has saved real ale from distinction. Without CAMRA you would

now be faced with a choice between keg beer and cider …and keg beer and cider

• There is still work to be done! CAMRA is now using the influence of its

membership to fight for the preservation of Pubs. Without Pubs there will be no

consistent regular outlets for real ale and cider, save for the bottled versions.

CAMRA both locally and nationally is challenging pub closures , and lobbying the

government for a more sensible and supportive tax regime for the licensed trade

• The battle for real cider is still being fought. CAMRA’s aim is to have real cider and

perry as readily available in pubs as real ale

2) For jollification

• CAMRA members are very sociable , and you will have the opportunity to meet

fellow beer and cider enthusiasts in convivial surroundings! Branch meetings are

….fun! Beer tasting and festival trips are, of course, all designed to be

educational, but……..

3) Wetherspoons Tokens

• All members currently receive £25 worth of Wetherspoon’s tokens annually!

Beat that!

4) To be cool…

• Currently the CAMRA membership card is the hottest card in town. Discounts , free

entrance to CAMRA beer festivals, and enormous street credibility!

The Rutland Branch currently has over 100 members and we’d like to make that 200.

Visit the membership stand at the festival and learn of some fantastic offers if you join

CAMRA today!
