THE FIRM INTRODUCTION: 1. Raza & Khan – Barristers & Corporate Counsellors is an Islamabad-based law firm

having been established in October, 2013 and offers professional legal services comprising all key legal subjects including, but not limited to, the fields of commercial, contractual, general civil and labour laws.

TEAM Syed Masood Raza, Partner Barrister-at-Law (Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn) Bar Vocational Course (University of Northumbria) LLB Honours (Kingston University, London) Barrister Syed Masood Raza is a founding partner of Raza & Khan and primarily handles and manages the litigation entrusted to the firm. After doing his LLB (Hons) from the Kingston University, London, Masood first worked as a para-legal in the London-based AF Solicitors following which he did his Bar Vocational Course from the University of Northumbria and was called to the Bar of England & Wales as a member of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. Since returning to Pakistan in 2008, Masood has gained invaluable experience by working in one of the country’s leading corporate law firms, Haidermota & Company, where he inter alia drafted and negotiated several contracts, incorporated companies (including one of the first private sector wind-based energy company) and represented several leading corporate sector companies, including Telenor Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited, Lafarge Cement Pakistan Limited, Dawood Group of Industries, etc. in cases before the Lahore High Court, the Competition Commission of Pakistan, the Environment Tribunal at Rawalpindi, the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Banking Mohtasib, Insurance Ombudsman and the district courts at Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. Thereafter, Masood worked as a Senior Associate first at the Islamabad-based Khan & Muezzin – Barristers and later at AJURIS, Advocates & Corporate Counsel. At both the firms, Masood was intensively involved in litigation across various forums including the High Courts, the National Industrial Relations Commission, the District Courts and the Competition Commission of Pakistan. Whilst working for the aforementioned firms, Masood represented various organizations and companies including, but not limited to, National Highway Authority, National Radio Telecommunication Company, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Warid Telecom, Pakistan Mobile Communication Limited, Competition Commission of Pakistan, Standard Chartered Bank, Habib Bank Limited, Nayatel (Pvt.) Limited, Employees Old Age Benefits Institution, Pakistan Petroleum Limited, Tollink, Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan, Aerotron, Chevron Pakistan Limited, Eastern Testing Service, Emaar DHA Islamabad Limited, Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, Auditor General of Pakistan, Pak China Investment Company Limited at different forums across the country. Besides practicing law, Masood is also visiting faculty at one of the city’s reputed law schools where he teaches European Union Law and Company Law.

Barrister Momin Ali Khan holds an LLB (Hons) degree from the University of London whereupon he completed his Bar Vocational Course from the City Law School (formerly the Inns of Court School of Law), City University London and was called to the Bar of England & Wales at the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. Momin started his legal career at the Islamabad office of Haidermota & Company where he was predominately entrusted with inter alia transactional, commercial work and quasi-litigation (before the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan and the Competition Commission of Pakistan). Subsequently, he joined KUNDI & KUNDI Advocates & Legal Consultants where he worked under the direct tutelage of the firm’s senior partners. He assisted senior partners as well as individually represented clients including the National Database and Registration Authority, Civil Aviation Authority, Huawei Technologies Pakistan (Pvt.) Limited, Pakistan Mobile Communication Limited, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, Capital Development Authority, NLC Developers (Pvt.) Limited, etc. before various judicial forums including the Islamabad High Court and the Peshawar High Court Momin has also advised and drafted, negotiated and vetted contracts for various organizations, in particular the National Database and Registration Authority (and NADRA Technologies Limited), CARE International in Pakistan, Response International, Sovoia Corporation, etc. in various contractual and commercial matters as well as managing the contractual work – and disputes stemming therefrom – relating to the New Benazir Bhutto International Airport Project on behalf of the Civil Aviation Authority. Momin was also an integral part of the team which successfully challenged the appointment of the Chairman of the Securities & Exchange Commission of Pakistan before the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the vires of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s Members (Appointment & Qualification) Rules 2013, etc.

BARRISTERS & CORPORATE COUNSELLORS Wajid Ali Malik, Partner Barrister-at-Law (Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn) Bar Vocational Course (Inns of Court School of Law, London) LLB Honours (University of Buckingham, United Kingdom) After his graduation from the University of Punjab, Wajid proceeded to the United Kingdom’s University of Buckingham from where he successfully completed his LLB (Honours). Thereafter, he successfully undertook the Bar Vocational Course from the reputed Inns of Court School of Law whereupon, in August of 2006, he was called to the Bar of England & Wales. Subsequent to the completion of his studies, Barrister Wajid started practicing law at the Rawalpindi-based Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui & Associates where he was involved in actively assisting senior counsel alongwith handling cases independently both before the District & Sessions Courts as well as the Lahore High Court. During his association with the profession, Wajid has undertaken civil, commercial and criminal litigation, successfully developing expertise in the latter. Besides litigation, Wajid has also ably drafted and advised clients in immigration matters (visa appeals).

FEE STRUCTURE

1. RETAINER: Retainer is a fixed sum of money chargeable on a monthly basis for retaining and soliciting our office’s advice and counsel on a recurring basis. A Retainer primarily covers all legal advice, rendering of legal opinions, reviewing of documents and conducting meetings and discussions. We offer a certain number of hours of free legal services per month on a non-carry forward basis without asking for any further compensation. Any additional time spent beyond the retained hours is chargeable at mutually hourly rates.

2. NON-LITIGATION / CONSULTANCY WORK: The billing methodology for our consultancy services is time-based i.e. billable on an hourly basis. This includes opinion/consultancy work, contractual drafting/vetting/negotiations, handling correspondence (including notices, etc.), ongoing implementation advice, legal compliance or any other similar work.

3. LITIGATION: Lump sum figures are agreed for litigation work (including court appearances, arbitration, mediation, etc.), where the fee may vary as per the nature of each case, the amount of work involved and the forum/court (original or appellate) in which it is to be instituted or is pending. Fees for litigation work are mutually agreed on a case-by-case basis.

4. MISCELLANEOUS EXPENSES: Miscellaneous expenses including traveling, lodging, photocopying etc. are chargeable at actuals for litigation and non-litigation work alike although, subject to agreement with the client, fixed pre-estimated charges may also be mutually agreed in appropriate cases.
