"Ratio" is the amount of work that is done by the students during a lesson.  There are two categories of ratio, which are "participation ratio" and "thinking ratio."  "Participation ratio" defines the amount of verbal and written work that students do.  All of this is visible and measurable.  "Thinking ratio" defines how much work students are doing in their heads which is just as important, but more difficult to measure.

• They are going to try and talk to each other. We are social beings. Give them an opportunity to do so with the work.

•Batch Process

• Allow students to respond to each others’ statements without teacher intervention – great deal of planning needed.
