The Publication

Gyro is the Otago Polytechnic student ‘Zine. It is published around 18 times a year in A5 ‘zine format and a glossy Orientation magazine at the start of the year.

The ‘zine is a well finished A5-sized ‘zine, and is generally a clean black and white design.

Distribution

Gyro is handed out directly to students in the high foot-traffic areas of OP campus.

It is also distributed to pick-up spots around the North Dunedin & Cromwell campuses, and in cafes, takeaways, etc in the North Dunedin and CDB area.

Demographic/Readership

Polytechnic students range from Information Technology and Health Studies to Art-school, Design and Civil Engineering. The average age is around late 20s, with a higher proportion of females.

Content

Edgy, student and youth related with a focus on entertainment and arts. Gyro is both fun to read and a useful guide to Otago student life.

Design

Gyro has won several awards for its content and design from ASPA.

Web

Gyro is also published online, and your ad will also appear in this edition at no extra cost.

Will I be noticed in Gyro?

Yes. Gyro deliberately has a lower ad-to content ratio than most other publications.

Gyro typically aims to have an ad loading of under 15%. This means there will be less competition for the readers’ attention than many other publications.

Ad Design

Gyro are able to design and produce simple ads for free. These ads should be booked and a brief and necessary content (eg logos, wording, images, briefs, etc) supplied to Gyro at least 14 days before publication.Gyro can design more complex ads for you at a competitive rate. Please enquire. Bookings need to be done at least 14 days before publication.

Multiple Bookings

Gyro is happy to negotiate a discount for a booking of 5 or more ads.

Deadlines

Ads should be booked by the Monday before publication, and camera-ready copy received by 10am on the Wednesday before publication.Ads should be e-mailed to teched@gyro.org.nz with any relevant print instructions.

Paper Colour

Please note Gyro may be printed on coloured pa-per from time to time. This will always be a light or bright colour (eg bright yellow) so any copy that looks good in black-and-white will be just as sharp on the coloured paper. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if your ad design won’t suit such a coloured background.
