Problem:

360,000 patients have cardiac events every day.*

275,000 patients have respiratory events every day.*

5 minutes is the average time for first responders to arrive.*

It only takes 2 minutes without oxygen to start developing brain damage.

Current Practices:

First responder may be carrying: - Oxygen Cylinders

- Oxygen Concentrators

- Oxygen Chemical Generators

No public access oxygen system currently in use.

Any oxygen supply currently is supplied by first responders of paramedics.

Gas Cylinders:

Limitations: Gas cylinders are a logistical nightmare, stored as pyramid stockpiles around the world. Traditional gas cylinders are heavy, cumbersome, costly to transport & most important, gas cylinders, due to their explosion hazard & terrorist threat, are not permitted in public places.

Cylinders not optimally suited for most places Oxygen is needed including:

• AED locations in public places.

• Ambulatory O2 Enrichment.

• Where EMTs Go.

• Where Miner’s Go.

• Where Planes Go.

• Where Sailors & Soldiers Go.

• Surge Capacity/Pandemics.

Oxygen Concentrators:

Limitations: Low Battery life. Very Noisey Can be very heavy (Weight) Requires a doctors prescription for use. Environmental Limits:

Depends on Quality of ambient air.

O2 delivery is affected by altitude.

Chemical Oxygen Generators:

Limitations: Current chemical oxygen generation systems are

relatively heavy and have very limited capacity because of potential runaway chemical reaction.

These systems can be hazardous to handle due to extreme heat. They are bulky because of the number of internal canisters.

They require replenishment canisters which need to be stockpiled. The unit needs to cool down before reuse.

They are fragile and not designed for remote field operation.

Limited self life for canisters
