    PROBLEMS

    Education occupies an important place in

    the overall development of a state. illiteracyis not only a stigma but a curse as well. Thestate of Rajasthan occupies a very low rankamong the committee of states in the field

    of literacy. One of the main reasons forsuch a situation in the poor literacy rate ofwomen, obtaining specially in the rural

    areas.

    1. To undertake an analytical and qualitative

    assessment of the planning process andimplementation of the girls special schoolenrolment drive 1992.

    2. To evaluate and document the contributionof various govt. departments or localcommunity in effective implementation ofgirls education drive.

    Segmented in two phases-

    A. Phase 1-16 July to 31 August.B. Phase 2-11 nov.to 30 nov.

    Both phases involved a door to door

    survey to identify non school goingvillage girls of 6-11 years.

    Lack of lady teachers and other facilities such

    as absence of toilet is acting as a hindrance.

    Large vacancies of teachers and the poorattendance of available techers is creating anegative impact.

    Lack of incentives like school dress,booksetc.are not attracting enrollment.

    The launch has resulted in fixing school wise

    targets for enrolment of girls.

    Publicity material and guidelines are sent

    directly to panchayat samities who in turncan distribute the same upto village level.

    Filling of vacant post in primary schools andproviding of at least one lady teacher in

    schools may be given priority.There is a urgent need for block level

    coordinator to avoid communication gap.

    Increase involvement of women

    functionaries at district ,block andvillage to create an impression that thedrive is specifcally girls driven.

    Mass media support like all indiaradio,doordarshan should be used.
