Whose duty to Protect Wildlife. Is it priority in the face of dire poverty of the people.

• However Article 48 of the Constitution of India specifies that "the state shall endeavor to protect and improve the environment and to safeguard the forests and wildlife of the country"

• Article 51-A states that "it shall be the duty of every citizen of India to protect and improve the natural environment including forests, lakes,

rivers, and wildlife and to have compassion for living creatures." Global warming is poised to make human life miserable with frequent

flood, droughts, epidemics etc.

• The most inexpensive way to fight global warming is protection of forests (large tracts which tiger needs)

• Tiger protection involves forest protection, improving corridors, making space for tigers, relocation of villages from core areas etc.

WHY SAVE KAWAL?

In the district of Adilabad having a tiger occupancy of 3,955 km distributed in 2 major blocks with a few sporadic occurrences. Tiger population was estimated to be 19 (17 to 34). (Status of tigers and Copredators March 2008)

“Kawal is one of the last four landscapes where Tigers are found in Andhra Pradesh”

Do we still have second thoughts to conserve Kawal?

"Future generations would be truly saddened that this century had so little foresight, so little compassion, such lack of generosity of spirit for the future that it would eliminate one of the most dramatic and beautiful animals that this world has ever seen" - George B. Schaller.
