Each school year always seems to end with a frenzy of activities, none more important than the graduation ceremony honoring our graduating seniors. The Class of 2015 was exceptional in many ways, and I want to thank all of them for their dedication to Rangeview and to their own learning. I look forward to them returning and sharing their stories. Another event that has, for the past thirteen years, marked the end of the school year is our annual Athletic Department Golf Tournament. I want to thank members of the Tournament Committee, Terry Anderson, Rondah Frierson, and Katherine Fay, for all of their time and effort to make this event so successful, netting a record $5000.00. This money will be used to help students offset the cost of participating in athletics. As key part of our success, for the first time we had a Tournament Sponsor, Legends Sports Grill. If you are in the area, stop by and thank them for their support by supporting them! Chamber Wine and Liquor also supported the tournament by providing lunch for all of the players. Athletics and Activities are a big part of who we are at Rangeview High School, and now we can extend these opportunities to students who might not otherwise be able to participate because of financial restraints. This tournament helps ensure all students will have the opportunity for these experiences. Soon the staff will return and begin preparation for the return of our students. The first day of school is August 11 th . This day is dedicated to our incoming freshmen and will be organized and run by our LINK Crew. No upper classmen will attend this day! Calling All Parents, We Need You! Volunteering in your child’s school is more important than you might think. By the time your students gets to high school most parents feel like school is ’their territory,’ but in reality school is the place where a parents influence is heightened.

As reported in the Wall Street Journal parents who have a physical presence in their students school are able to motivate and encourage their students to believe that "what you're doing is worth spend-ing my time on." When the presence of a parent is within the school students are most likely look to the parent as an ex-ample of what an upstanding community citizen looks like. A parents' example of being engaged in the community also holds great power for teens, and influ-ences them to be involved as well.

Every parent is important to their stu-dents success, and at Rangeview High School there is an expectation that par-ents will partner with the school to help students exceed expectations and achieve excellence.

Though parental support and higher ex-pectation for students the results will in turn be high achievement and success for students.

We need your help. Rangeview High School is committed to providing a high quality education to our students, but we can't do it alone.

Our students need to know that their education is a top priority to both their school and their families, and that we're here for them, to support and encourage them, and keep them accountable.

We have high expectations. We have high expectations for our students. We have high expectations for our teachers and staff. We have high expectations for our families.

You will always have a role. Whether your student is beginning high school, or

planning for after graduation, there is always an important role for you to play. And we need you.

Together we can do it. We need to work together as partners for the sake of our students success. Rangeview has made it a priority to offer more volunteer opportunities to parents during the 2015-2016 school year. The purpose is to engage Raider parent and strengthen the Rangeview community. Parents will have the opportunity to view and apply to volunteer positions during student check-in. During this time parents will also have the oppor-tunity to apply for a district volunteer badge if the position requires it. Volunteer possitions will range from one-time, monthly, reoccurring, and semester long opportunities. Sneak Peak at 2015-2016 Parent Vol-unteer Opportunities.

Booster Clubs Need not be available during the day. Volunteer time at athletic games and events, attend monthly planning meetings, and raise financial support for RHS athletic teams.

Dance Chaperones Need not be available during the day. Monitor activities and help with coat check, supervision and etc at Rangeview High dances.

APS Back to School Kickoff!

Every year students and par-ents line up in preparation to begin the school year cele-bratring as a district. The an-nual APS Back to School Kickoff for the 2015-16 school year will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015, from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.

This event has become a tradition in APS and is a chance for students, families, community mem-bers and APS staff to come together to celebrate the new school year.

One of the district goals this year is to involve community partners more directly in the

event. This year to help ac-complish that goal the event will be hosted by the The Au-rora Town Center (Aurora Mall)!

This annual event no only celebrated the beginning of a new school year, but it also provides students with a brand new backpack and school supplies to start off the school year strong.

Tables for all schools will be located on the first floor of the mall, and students will also be able to receive im-munizations on site.

comes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience.

This year the freshman-only Link Day is on August 11 and is set to be the best ever.

Studies show that if students have a positive experience their first year in high school, their chance for success in-creases dramatically. Link Crew provides the structure for freshmen to receive sup-port and guidance from jun-iors and seniors understand that the transition to a larger school can sometimes be overwhelming.

At Rangeview the first day of school from Freshman is known as “Link Day.” This is the day that Freshman have to opportunity to get to know there new surroundings while at the same time getting to know each other and being mentored by upperclassman.

Link Crew is a high school transition program that wel-

What’s New With Raider Communication??? After listening to parents we have rec-ognized the need for improved com-munication efforts. We have been in the process of streamlining communi-cations, researching and reformatting the way we communicate with our Rangeview Community. In the 2015-2016 school year Rangeview plans to offer several new options to parents and students to receive information and communication updates. Some of the additions and addendums that can be expected are:

Rangeview Website: We have worked hard on managing and repairing our school website to reflect the most update information. We will continue to streamline this throughout the year to better serve and satisfy students and parents.

RHS Mobile App: The Rangeview High School App places the multi-facetted steams of communi-cation directly into the palms of stu-dent, staff, parents, and community members who desire to stay up to date on everything Rangeview. The app features calendars, newsfeeds, push

notifications and more.

Opting-in to Categorized Emails: Many parents voiced their opinions of wanting to know about specific events that are happening in the Rangeview community. By giving parents the option to opt-in to specified: Athletic, Perform-ing Arts, Volunteer Request, and School Event emails, parents will be informed about what they want to know and sup-port for our student activities will in-crease.

Opting-out of receiving traditional mail: This will give parents the opportunity for parents to go paperless. This paperless approach will give parents access to emails, report cards and other infor-mation online rather that receive tradi-tional mail.

Social Media: We have expanded our means of commu-nication to include social media. We are striving to communicate with our stu-dents, parents, and community more efficiently. We are taking steps to provide more access to information via our web-

site and social media. We want to make every effort so that you can always have the information you need right at your fingertips. Take time to visit, like, and follow us on the web through Facebook and Twitter and stay up to date on: Announcements, Athletics and Events, Raider Achievements, Schedule Chang-es and more. Facebook.com/RHSExcellence @RHSExcellence

Look for a full breakdown of what par-ent communication will look like this school year during student check-in and Back to school night.

To take full advantage of this commu-nication opportunities it is highly im-portant that all parents have and Infi-nite Campus account and all parent and student information is accurate in Infinite Campus. To create an Infinite Campus parent account, contact the Rangeview at 303-695-6848. This can also be done during Back to School night or during parent-teacher Conferences.

Read More, Write More, Think More, Be More, Welcome to High School!

Reading regularly could be the most profitable activity for you this summer. Reading develops your mind! Research has shown that unless students read reg-ularly during school breaks, they can fall behind as much as three months in their

reading achievement. Students who read several books throughout the summer are shown to maintain or increase their reading ability. Reading is not a natural skill, just like activities such as baseball or playing an instrument. The more you

practice, the better you will be! Read More, Write More, Think More, Be More!

These titles have been chosen for the 2015—2016 Freshman Summer Reading Program. All Incoming Freshmen should read the book(s) by the first day of school. Choose one or more! For each book you read, you will be re-quired to complete a Personal Reflec-tion form. These can be found on the Rangeview H.S. website.

Lynn’s jour-ney to find her passion: Individually making a change in the world.

“You know that girl in high school that’ does everything? That was me!” said Lynn (Gorham) Clark. This class of 1987 graduate found her passion at Rangeview and has been chasing her passions ever since. She vividly remembers that it was with balloons flying high and the elevated anticipation and hopes of students, staff and the Aurora community that the doors of Rangeview High School opened in the fall of 1983. Clark was among the first students to enter into the Rangeview doors and she vibrantly recreates the moment in her mind when she walked into the brand new school, wearing her brand new Poms uniform, while being surrounded by all of her friends as they embarked on their high school jour-ney. Rangeview High School ‘it was so beautiful and fancy’ said Clark.

Having grown up in Aurora Clark loved the experience she had attending school with students she had known practically her en-tire life. She, just like many other students had the opportunity to be one of the first students to attend many new Aurora schools. “I went to Dartmouth, and Dalton, then Mrachek and Columbia, I went to eve-ry new school that opened so Rangeview was no different” said Clark.

Clark was a highly motivated and heavily involved student while she attended Range-view. She was a member of the Poms squad for four years and the team’s captain for two years, editor of the Raider Review school newspaper, and actively involved in many other clubs, organizations and extra-curricular activities. After graduating 11th in her 360 student class Clark went on to study Journalism and Creative Writing and Colorado State University.

“I was very academically focused and I was really ready. I have always liked school; I

Alumni Spotlight think being able to have a solid high school journalism experience at Range-view and being able to take that into my college experience really helped. I think it really gave me some skills and some stories that helped me to sell myself as a Stringer for the Aurora Sentinel, which is how I worked through college” said Clark

After 3 years at CSU Clark made the de-cision to take some time off and experi-ence life. She went on to work at a trade magazine before she returned to school and graduated Magna Cum Laude for Metropolitan State University as a dou-ble major in Journalism and Creative writing in 1995. It was during this time when Clark realized that she needed to do something she was passionate about. She was goal oriented and knew that she wanted to achieve a high power position in a top company by the time she was 45, she also knew that she would not be happy in a for-profit company.

After seeing a classified ad in the news-paper Clark earned the position of Publi-cations Manager for Children’s Hospital and worked there for 3 years. Clark then ventured out and started her own com-pany Lynn Clark Studios and 18 months later she rejoined the Children’s Hospital staff as fundraising arm of the organiza-tion, which is where she stayed for 7 years.

After her time at Children’s Hospital she finally arrived at the positon she thought she was longing for as Director of Com-munications for the University of Colo-rado Cancer Center. Clark soon realized that her desire and passion to personally impact the world was not being fulfilled.

“I found myself having staff, which is what I thought I wanted, having some power and some influence which I really did enjoy but I got to write email. I did-n’t get to write what I wanted to write and in the mean time in 2009 I started doing event photography.”

She knew that she didn’t want to work in communications anymore, and so in 2012 Clark ended her position at CU and began working full time in photography.

It was during the process of shooting a client she realized that she was not just helping and empowering her, but that she was helping and empowering herself. Clark had found her true pas-sion project, and since that time has started Lynn Clark Portraits which enables her to create incredible art and encourage women to be who they are and live life vividly. This passion project has fueled a love for life and a desire to help other live life freely and passionately. “I have found my calling and I am making individual change in the world.”
