donation drive organized by local FIRST teams. The megadrive asked local teams to donate scrap electronics, canned foods, and children’s books. I want to thank every one who helped with the recy-cling of electronics. Our team won the award for “Most Electronics Donat-ed”
The event was a success, our team members played hard. All of our offseason time and commitment really paid off. After the elimination matches our team was ranked 6th out of 38. During alliance selection we picked team 3003 Tan[x] and team 3044 OxBE4. Through
On Saturday October 28, 2012 Team 3015 Ranger Robotics competed at the Rochester Ruckus. The Ruckus is a FIRST off-season event held annual-ly which is a replay of the previous years game. The
event allows new mem-bers to experience a com-petition and older mem-bers a chance to hone their skills for the upcom-ing competition season. In addition to the competi-tion, teams competing also participated in a mega
tough play and teamwork we were able to upset the third alliance and make it to the semifinals. Even know we lost in the semi-finals we were able
to pull off the infamous “triple bal-ance!!” All in all, the day was a success and we look forward to working with all of our new team members and mentors in the fu-ture.

Meet the Cabinet
On October 4, 2012, our team elected our 2012—2013 Team 3015 Cabinet. The Cabinet will work closely with the team ad-visors to make team deci-sions from robot build to fundraising. The cabinet meets every Tuesday dur-ing Advise-
bility of FIRST Choice and PDV’s mean that teams may need to plan a little extra time for part selec-tion and shipping.
To help teams plan and prepare for the season, FIRST Choice has released a few key dates…..

As more Kit of Parts items shift from the Kickoff Kit to FIRST® Choice and the Virtual Kit (e.g. Product Donation Vouchers, PDVs), teams will receive fewer items in the Kickoff Kit each year, but have a wid-er variety and volume of items from which to choose that may meet their specific needs better. School work and classes occupy most of my time, but when I am not in class or doing homework I spend most of my time taking part in the many robotics programs offered at Clarkson University. I participate in Clarkson Micro Robotics team and was fortunate enough to travel to Japan to compete with the team last year. Also I mentor the two FRC teams that Clarkson mentors and funds, team 229 and team 4124. While on Team 3015 the most memorable moment I have would need to be our first time going to a competition. It was the Lunacy game our first year and when we went to compete at the Finger Lakes Regional we were able to place high enough to select our own alliance, we were paired up against the first seed alliance in our first match of qualifications. During the first of three matches against the first seed alliance we were able to pin one of their best robots and score the entire time on them which led to us winning the first match, even though we lost the next, the energy and excitement during that first match is something I will never forget. Being on Team 3015 and participating in FIRST has gave me great experience working with others and working under a short and firm deadline. The skills I learned on the team have helped me in my school, my teams, my research and my internships. FIRST and Team 3015 are great and the experience that high school students learn in both of them is unparalleled by any other program.
Name: Lowell Ferguson College: Rochester Institute of Technology
Degree: Master’s Degree in Computer Science Engineering
Mr. Ferguson works at Exelis as Imaging Systems Chief Engineer. This is his second year men-
toring FIRST team 3015. He became a mentor after watching the energy, and sleep depriva-
tion, of the build season from his kids (Micaela, SHS class of 2011, & Nick SHS class of 2013) on
prior years. Involvement with the team allows him to spend time with Nick, and now Erinn
(SHS class of 2015), in a different avenue than occurs in the normal parent/child interac-
tion. The opportunity to share years of electrical and software engineering experience with
high school students excited him and what continues to thrill Mr. Ferguson about FIRST ro-
botics in general, and specifically team 3015. His favorite moment with the team was seeing
the team excitement at the Penfield High’s “Rochester Rally” as the robot (Marlene) came to
life last year, although witnessing the T-shirt
deployment system tests over the summer is a
very close second

"Seeing the spark in a student's eye's as their math and science classes are
applied to make a robot run is inspiring. The mutual reinforcement
between their classes and FIRST, encourages many of these kids to pursue
becoming the engineers this world needs." ~ Mr. Ferguson
