Thanks to the Art & Environment Committee of the Worship Commission for the beauty which surrounded us throughout Advent and Christmas. Thanks to those who donate to provide the poinsettias and greenery that decorate the church. Thanks to those who pray for the needs of the church, ordained and lay ministers, and all people of goodwill. Thanks to musicians, singers and bell-ringers who help us lift up our hearts to the Lord. Thanks to those who proclaim the Word of God, those who set the altar, serve, welcome, arrange, or offer Holy Communion. Thanks to our parish staff for much of the background work that goes unseen yet provides the daily support for all of the ministries which enliven us as disciples of Jesus Christ. It has become a tradition that during the Christmas break St.

Cyprian and Christ the Good Shepherd join for an event we call “soup and slack”. Members

of both youth groups helped to spread Christmas Cheer to the clients at the All Saints Soup Kitchen on December 26 by not only serving

meals but also singing carols. It is always a fun morning, and everyone seems to enjoy themselves. Afterwards, we spent the afternoon bowling and eating

pizza at Indian Lanes in Wyandotte.

Let Perpetual Light Shine Book Club We will be discussing “And Then There Were None” or “Ten Little Indians” by Agatha Christie on Jan. 16 at 1:30pm in the Hospitality Room.

Our February book has been requested and will be at available at the Riverview Library soon. We will be reading "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" by Fred Rogers and Tom Junod. The discussion will be on February 20 at 1:30pm.

Tom Junod’s Esquire profile of Fred Rogers, “Can You Say... Hero?,” has been hailed as a classic of magazine writing. Now, his moving story of meeting and observing the beloved host of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood is the inspiration for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Junod’s unforgettable piece appears for the first time in book form alongside an inspiring collection of advice and encouragement from Mister Rogers himself. Covering topics like relationships, childhood, communication, parenthood, and more, Rogers’s signature sayings and wise thoughts are included here. Pairing the definitive portrait of a national icon with his own instructions for living your best, kindest life, this book is a timeless treasure for Mister Rogers fans. (Amazon Books)

Thursday, January 16 Interfaith Dialogue

Western Christianity can respond to religious pluralism by fearfully building walls or by connecting with each other in ways that will allow us all to draw closer to God and care for creation. Join us as we reflect on Interfaith Dialogue – what it means, how our understanding has evolved and how it allows us to respect and honor the faith traditions of others without compromising our own beliefs.

Stewardship Thoughts Today, in St. Matthew’s Gospel, the evangelist shares how John baptized Jesus in the Jordan River. In the Second Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Peter stresses how … Beginning in Galilee after the baptism … God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power. This act of grace begins Christ’s public ministry of proclaiming the Good News and bringing salvation to the world. Our own Baptism calls us to discipleship in Christ, and Jesus continually knocks on the door of our hearts to deepen this discipleship. When we let Him in — make Him personal in our lives — we better express our discipleship through the sharing of our God-given gifts in gratitude with our parish, the Archdiocese, and the community at large. Make time to take the St. Austin Spiritual Gifts Inventory at www.staustin.org/spiritual-gifts-inventory to discover your gifts.

“We should work for a world not simply that hates hatred, but that loves love.” —Fr. James Martin, S.J.
