We have almost 50 members, family and friends signed up to attend. I’m not sure we can accommodate any more in reserved space at the restaurant. We had a good turnout for the November meeting. Word obviously got out that we were featuring a presentation by OVMRC member Marc Bélanger VE3BOE on his self designed and installed 56 foot self supporting tilt over tower. It was almost standing room only for late comers to the class room at the Aviation Museum where we are assembling these days. Part of the attraction was OVMRC members picking up and paying for their custom shirts embroidered with their name, call sign and the Club crest. Several members of the OARC also attended adding to the audience. Nevertheless, everybody seemed to enjoy the camaraderie with fellow hams until the formal meeting and Marc’s presentation could get underway. I mentioned in the November Rambler that I had just completed working the CQ WW SSB contest. Well as of the time of this writing, I’ve now completed working the CQ WW (HF) CW contest (Nov 25-26) on 80m through to 15m. As opposed the CQ WW SSB contest a month earlier, I didn’t make any contacts on 10m; it was dead every time I checked! In total, I worked 343 mostly DX contacts over the contest period including PS0F on Fernando de Noronha just off the east coast of Brazil. This contact will add to my DXCC total. Well into the contest period for the ARRL 160m (CW) contest on the Dec 2–3 weekend, I decided to give operating on the “Top Band” a try after I was reminded the contest was happening by an email from Ric VE3XL. Although I don’t have a proper antenna for 160m, I lashed up a old large-inductance coil from the junk box and applied it to base load my 33 foot vertical that I normally use for 40m. Carefully picking the point on the coil to tap, I managed to obtain a respectable SWR Saturday evening (Dec 2nd) using only a flashlight to illuminate the dark the corner of the back yard where the vertical is mounted and bingo, I was in business to make a few contacts. I was amazed that most stations I called (Continued on page 3) Celebrating our 60 th Anniversary Season of Continuous Service to Ottawa President’s Ramblings.....................1,3 Contest Calendar.................................4 Restaurant Gatherings.........................4 Cross Canada C4FM Weekly Net...... 4 OVMRC Repeater Nets......................4 2 Metre Nets.......................................4 OVMRC HF Nets...............................4 Denis Rule, VE3BF Canada 150 .......5 OVMRC Net Activity Report.............6 Meeting Minutes.............................7-8 Project Kits.........................................8 Membership Form..............................9 INSIDE
