Originally built in 1835, the Rambagh Palace has gracefully traversed many royal
transitions; from the home of the queen’s favourite handmaiden, to royal guesthouse
and hunting lodge, and later as the home of the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II and
his queen, the most stylish woman in the world, Maharani Gayatri Devi. Today, this
jewel in the Taj’s crown offers 78 stunningly restored grand rooms and suites, which
were the chambers of the former Maharaja. Stand witness to time with a walk
through the Rambagh Palace, located a convenient 11 kms from Jaipur Airport.
The Rambagh Palace, an architectural masterpiece exuding magnificence and grandeur, is spread across 47 acres of green land. Huge verandahs, symmetrical settings and lush lawns festooned with beautiful peacocks to welcome visitors.
The palace retains its elaborate splendour, extravagantly decorated with hand-carved marble ‘jalis’ or latticework, sandstone balustrades, cupolas and ‘chattris’ or cenotaphs, and elaborate Mughal Gardens that echo fairy tales, with history pouring out of every brick and cornice.
