Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime Sunday, July 07 2013 | 11:30 PM (Malaysia Standard Time)

With Allah’s Grace , He Bestowed upon His servants different seasons; most important

of which is the month of Ramadhan. However only the shrewd believer who possesses

the guided mind will taste the benefit of Ramadhan. Who are they with the guided

mind ? They are those who determine his interests in this Life & in the Hereafter (not

Duniyya alone). Most people cater to their interests in this life only. The True believer

who is keen & shrewd is thinking of his life after death . To do so, he needs Allah

Subhanahu wa ta’ala: What does he have when he meets Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala.

In , Allah Talks about the believers : Surat Yunus , Ayat 10 / 1-2

Allah started the surah with - these are letters and Allah challenged the

Arabs to bring a Quran like this which consist of the which they, the SAME letters

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 2

Arabs , use in their own spoken language . They failed to bring neither a Quran nor a

Chapter , not even a sentence of the Quran.

Allah Praise the Quran as Al Hakeem

Al Hakeem carries 2 meanings :

The Wise Book : Allah referred to the Quran as AL HAKEEM

The Perfect Book : Allah says Quran as the Perfect Book & is perfect of all

aspects :

o perfect in its wordings,

o perfect in its meaning,

o perfect in all aspects with no crookedness , free from any

imperfection , evil & injustice.

After Praising the Quran, Allah Say :

The “ glad tiding “ in this Verse is evident in the word

ہم ق عند رب قدم صد

“qadama sidq” . Those who understands realize that Ramadhan is an opportunity in a

lifetime . This is evident in the word . In Arabic,

. means “footstep ”

means “ thruthfulness ”

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 3

In Arabic, this means the “ foot “ or “footstep” precedes you (when you go to a place).

In this life, your Good Deeds will precede you – your Good Deeds will wait for you in

Akhirah when you meet Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala . Allah is telling that His

Messenger salallahu alaihi wa salam reveal the good news that all the good news will

precede them in the Day of Judgement. The reward of the good deeds done in this

Dunia will be seen when you meet Allah. Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam warn

us that all the good deeds done in this life will be seen in the Day of Judgement. If you

know that you will meet Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala, then you know that Ramadhan is

an opportunity for success with Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala .

Ramadhan with all that it consists of Good Deeds will :

allow you to be in Paradise

gain Protection from Hell Fire.

you will be forgiven of your sins in Ramadhan

you will enter the door of Ar Rayyan in the Day of Judgement

Allow you to be with Prophets & Martyrs in the Day of Judgement

Ramadhan is Shahr ul Mubarak where you get abundant ,

continuous rewards.

Is Ramadhan an opportunity for everyone or for certain people only ? The Muslims see

Ramadhan as an opportunity for success with Allah. The problem with people is their

weak faith – they do not see Ramadhan as an opportunity. The people’s faith weakens

because as Allah say in Surah Yunus , Ayat 10/7

Allah’s Ayât are proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 4

In the above Ayat , Allah describe the people with WEAK FAITH with 4 descriptions:

1. There are not hoping to meet Allah

2. They are pleased with life in this dunia

3. They are satisfied with life in this dunia

4. They are totally heedless of the Ayat of Allah , ie the Universal Signs , Quranic

signs – Allah give messages to guide them but they are heedless

These lead people to weaken their faith . Then Allah Say in : Ayat 10/8

(٨)

Those, their abode will be the Fire, because of what they used to earn. (8)

Noone wants to be in Hell fire . Therefore , we must take care of the above

descriptiions (1-4) .

These people categorized in : Ayat 10/7

are not happy for the reward which Allah will be Giving in the Akhirah

are not preparing for meeting Allah

All their concerns are focused on this present life ( to accomplish their wishes -

degree, children, work, house, etc) in this Duniyya.

GET TO KNOW ALLAH

They “ hope not for their meeting with Us ( Allah)

“ . This is because they do not know Allah. If they know Allah whom they will meet

they will prepare for that day from now & they will take Ramadhan as an opportunity

to start a new life. Allah will talk to you directly on that Day. So you will hope that all

your sins will be forgiven. You want a record with no sins . Allah grants Ramadhan as

a chance to forgive our sins. Take this advantage in this Ramadhan. Ramadhan is an

opportunity in a lifetime for the one who believes in Allah & who hopes in the meeting

with Allah : this is THE BELIEVER .

We must believe with certainty of our meeting with Allah where Allah will Talk to us

directly without any filter. But the faith in the people becomes weak when they are

heedless. And these people prepare for Dunia only, not for Hereafter.

Quran is a Message (from Allah) for you, me & everyone. How much are you

preparing for Akhirah ? How much do you use Ramadhan to clear your record from

sins to meet Allah . This is a true believer.

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 5

What to prepare in this Dunia ?

Know about Allah Whom you will meet

Believe in the meeting with Allah in the Day of Judgement.

Prepare for that day .

DO NOT BE HEEDLESS OF ALLAH’S SIGNS

We are also heedless of Allah’s Universal Signs & Quranic Signs. People do read the

Quran but they DO NOT understand what Allah is saying in the Quran . That is why

their faith is becoming weak.

Description of a believer who hope to meet Allah is :

1. they have faith in Allah

2. they are always remembering the Hereafter when they will meet Allah .

3. When they do Good Deed in this Dunia , they are thinking of presenting their

rewards forth ( .) To meet with the reward of what they are

doing now in the Day of Judgement. Every deed they are doing while being in

this Dunia is for the future ; for them to use in the Hereafter .

4. They are thinking of the future :

ہم ق عند رب قدم صد

5. Out of His Blessings & Benevolence with His Creation, Allah is giving us

chance after chance , in order to forgive our sins, to increase our rewards , to

enter Paradise , & to come close to Allah – Allah is leaning to us by giving us

this chance in Ramadhan . Ramadhan is a great chance to start a new life with

Allah.

REFERENCE ON SOME HADITH :

1st Hadith : We hear this Hadith every year .

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 6

2nd

Hadith : “ Whoever stand in the month of Ramadhan with Taraweeh , with doing

Qiyam sincerely hoping to attain Allah’s Rewards, then all his past sins with be

forgiven” .

3rd

Hadith : “ Whoever establish Laylat ul Qadr , the Night of Decree , with qiyam &

ibadah are done sincerely & hoping to attain Allah’s reward, will be forgiven”

Every year we hear these Hadith , but few get his sins forgiven by the end of

Ramadhan.

There is an action and a promise in these Hadith:

The action of these hadith observing the fast ;

The promise of these hadith sins forgiven. But to be forgiven , these promise

has 2 conditions which must be fulfilled :

I. iman , faith

II. hoping for a reward from Allah

The promise of sins being forgiven are only given if the 2 conditions (I & II) are

fulfilled . The person who believe with certainty that he will see Allah on the Day of

Judgement , where some people will receive their records with their right hand & some

people will receive their records with their left hand . There are people whom Allah

will take account easily ; and there are people whom Allah will take account severely .

Which category do you want to be in ?

All want to be the right hand people BUT how much is your effort to observe fast with

faith, hoping for the reward from Allah. Subhanalah, we will be shown our deeds , &

we cannot deny any of these deeds . The records will be in numbers , and the

recordings are undeniable. We want to have white, clean records – clear of sins , filled

with Good Deeds , hoping Allah will appreciate & reward us for it .

What should I do, ya Rabbi, for my records to be cleared of my sins ?

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam mentioned the conditions ie to :

1- observe fast ,

2- fast with imaanan, &

3- fast with ihtisaaban ( hoping for Allah’s Reward) .

Imaaman means You have to observe fast during the day of Ramadhan, with believing

in Allah , the true King, Rabb al Alamin, He who had enjoined fasting upon us . Here

we are following the command of Allah, my Lord who had enjoined the fasting upon

me , full of Wisdom because He is Allah, the All Wise . He is All Rich . And He will

reward me for acting on His Commands (of fasting) because he is Shaakr Shakuur

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 7

When I observe fast , I control my tongue, ears, eyes, & limbs because I believe in

Allah, the All Seer, the All Knower, the All Aware. He will Appreciate that I am doing

good deeds . Allah is watching me now. I am filled with thirst & hunger. Ya Allah, so

reward me for observing the fast you had Commanded upon me. On the Day of

Judgement, Allah said “ Drink, eat because of all your fasting in the past in the Dunia .

So in the Day of Judgement, eat & drink & enjoy from what you had presented on this

Day (of Judgement) . “ So all the time when you are fasting, you remember Allah’s

Greatness, Allah’s Beauty, Allah Gloriousness , Allah’s Observation of you. So all the

time that you are fasting, you are filled from within with Iman , you are believing in

Allah’s Names & Attributes & Actions.

If you are offended, or someone fought with you, remember what Rasulullah salallahu

alaihi wa salam said

“If he does not abandon false statement, or lying, then Allah have no

need of his fasting, Allah has no need of his abandonment of his food or

drink”.

Remember this. Allah is watching you because He is Raqeeb, He is Shaheed, He is

Samee’ , He is Baseer. So you remember all the Names & Attributes of Allah , so we

are alert & aware. Hence we do not reply if we are offended while fasting. If she

offend me, may Allah, Al Ghafuur, forgive her . I don’t want to spoil my fasting.

So knowing about Allah helps you to observe the fast

in the way that Pleases Allah

Your reward depends on how much you know about Allah’s Names & Attributes , &

how you deal with your fasting with reference to Allah Names & Attributes. By doing

this, you will be fulfilling the 1st condition that is Iimaanan . And not just by believing

in Allah but also by believing in the news with Allah , hoping that you will be rewarded

of the good deed . Believe in Allah will make you observe the fast in the way which

pleases Allah.

Fasting as a habit !

Whoever observe the fast as a habit (ie fasting because everyone around you is

fasting , or you are going to the masjid because everyone is going) is without any belief

in Allah, no feelings in the heart .

These people who fast as a habit will have upon them :

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 8

1- Lose the reward of the good deed he is doing

He is fasting but he receives no reward for this good deed. Going to Taraweeh and not

having that feeling of faith in the heart; going for the wrong reasons / not having any

faith in Allah all these will make him lose the reward of that deed he/she’s doing. =

no benefit.

2- Weaken his resolution

When he does good deeds without any feeling in his heart, it will weaken his

resolution . People who are prepared will enter Ramadhan with a high resolution. Not

fasting faithfully will result in the person fasting but they didn’t fast feeling the faith in

their hearts . This shows how serious this matter is. We must always recharge our

knowledge of Allah and remind ourselves about our religion to be able to fast with

strong faith in our hearts .

3. Reduction (in the resolution results) in reduction in the ibadah

Instead of having more faith and increase the deeds from the first day of fasting, your

resolution/ibadah decreases. From reading one Juz of the Quran per day , she might

lessen the Quran reading to just 3 pages a day etc. ! Reason is that the person enters

Ramadan as if it’s just a custom, no real understanding of what Ramadan is, or they

see it as just a month of just fasting because they have to or just an act that they have

to complete for a month. That’s why we must take care of your hearts and faith and

belief in Allah. The hadith says that during Ramadan: it is faith (in Allah, all your

actions you do is for Allah = imaanan.

4. Day of Judgement

On the Day of Judgement, there will be people drowned in their own sweat up to their

knees, legs , waist, etc according to their deeds they did and from their sins.

And there will be people shaded on that day . The shade is according to their good

deeds – sedeqah , etc. Remember what every action of yours will result in, in the Day of

Judgment. When one hand is giving sedeqah, your mind must be in the Day of

Judgement when Allah will give you a Shade. In this way, every action you do, you will

remember your position in the Day of Judgement & what you have with Allah in the

Day of Judgement.

People will be thirsty in the Day of Judgement. They will run to the tank of Rasulullah

salallahu alaihi wa salam & they will hope that he will give a drink from Al Kawthar.

But there will be people who will be driven AWAY from the tank of Al Kawthar & the

angels will say to Rasulullah, “ you don’t know what they have done after you,

Rasulullah. They did not act upon the Sunnah of the Rasulullah in the Dunia. And

they did all kinds of innovation in the religion ( bidah)” . Hence they are driven AWAY

from the tank of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam.

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 9

Whatever thing (Sunnah or Obligatory) you know in this world, you do. One of the

sahabah r.a. said “ Is this sunnah or obligatory ? ” . People in the ways of Dunia

would say it is OK not to do Sunnah. If it is Obligatory , then they will do it . But the

sahabah never question if a deed is Sunnah or Obligatory. Sahabah will carry out the

good deed irrespective whether it is Obligatory or Sunnah because the want the reward

from Allah in the Day of Judgement. Never belittle the Sunnah or saying it is

voluntary . When you do every action, relate it to the Sunnah : “ this is the way

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam ate , or sat or spoke, etc. “ . Do the actions

hoping that in the Day of Judgement, Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam will

intercede for you, will give you a drink from the Kawthar.

In the Day of Judgement, Allah will distribute The Light amongst the people. There

are people whom Allah will give abundant light. And some will be given little Light.

This depends on how much they attend to the Light in THIS LIFE in the Dunia.

How much you recite the Quran & act upon the Quran will be the

light in the grave & in the Day of Judgement.

How much you acquire knowledge and act upon it will be the light

in the grave & in the Day of Judgement.

This is the state that you will be doing in this dunia. You will do every action ( sending

salam to the Rasulullah , remembering Allah a lot, etc) in this Dunia that will give you

a Light in the Day of Judgement.

SO observe the fast in Ramadhan in imaanan , believe in Allah & in the Day of

Judgement, to get the forgiveness in the Day of Judgement.

The 2nd

condition ie to hope for reward from Allah . Before you do any good deed, first

of all, your intention is :

1) sincere , doing it for Allah’s sake and attaining the Pleasure of Allah)

2) seeking the praise of Allah

3) taking care of my reputation with Allah . I don’t want to praise or anything

from the people.

4) My concern is “ Ya Rabbi, accept this deed from me” .

This is a way of ihtisaaban – that your intention to do this deed is

to please Allah

hoping that Allah will reward you for this action

protecting your reputation with Allah.

Rasulullah said “ there is no one except he has a reputation with Allah in the Heaven .

If his reputation in the Heaven is good, then it will be placed for him, a good

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 10

reputation in the Earth . If his reputation in the Heaven is not good , then it will be

placed for him a bad reputation on the Earth. “

Hence , all your concern is not the praise of the people but ONLY the good reputation

with Allah. Do not care what people say . Just want Allah to be pleased with me . What

is my name with Allah ? Am I a believer with Allah ? Am I Al Muhsin with Allah ? Am

I a patient person with Allah ? What is my title , Ya Rabbi ? These should be our

concern. IHTISAABAN ( concerned with your reputation with Allah) is important .

You are doing good deed , so question “ Why are you coming to class ? W hy are you

doing the solat, siyam, attending to the class ? Why ? What are you hoping from

Allah ?” . The good reputation with Allah is what you want ; not praise from people.

What do you hope from Allah for your fast, & when you attend Taraweeh ?

Whoever fulfill these 2 conditions of imaanan & ihtisaaban, for their Taraweeh , etc ,

will be rewarded by Allah . DO not fast for the people.

In Day of Judgement , Allah will distinguish between the hypocrites & the believers. In

the Day of Judgement , Allah will set up a WALL between the hypocrites & the

believers.

The hypocrites will say to the believers, “ We were doing the actions with you : praying,

fasting, going for Haj, do all the good deeds , etc. “.

Then the believers will answer , “ Yes , you were with us, attending the gatherings

BUT :

i. you put yourself into trial – applying for a job which is a trial for you & your

religion ; tempted you & your religion ; and even lost your religion ;

ii. speaking & laughing with men – this is a fitnah for you & your religion ; “fa

kuntum anfusakum “ ie you had put you yourself into trial & your religion.

Hypocrites are awaiting for destruction & bad things to happen to the Muslims, to the

religion. They are waiting for bad to happen to the good doers. Hypocrites doubt Allah,

Rasulullah, the Quran. Allah said hypocrites are deceived with false hopes meaning

they do good deeds , seeking same reward as the believers eventhough the deeds are

done without faith . They think they would get same reward as the believers in the Day

of Judgement. Allah Al Hakeem would never equalize evil doers & hypocrites with the

true believers .

A hypocrite : they do all the things Allah ask as the true believers : pray, wear hijab,

fast etc. But what is in their hearts ? How much do they hope from Allah, how much

do they think of the meeting with Allah ? So judge yourself – are you of these people ?

To get forgiveness of the sins in the month of Ramadhan , you should :

i. observe the fast faithfully, believing in Allah & Day of Judgement

ii. al ihtisaab – doing the good deed hoping for a reward from Allah, sincerely for

His sake, seeking the Pleasure of Allah .

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 11

Hadith on Ramadhan

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam said : “ Everyday in the month of Ramadhan, at

the time of breaking the fast, Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala redeems people from

Hellfire” .

When you are breaking your fast, remember this hadith. Whoever will be free from

Hellfire everyday in the month of Ramadhan ? Answer : Whoever observed the fast

that day with the 2 conditions : Imaanan & ihtisaaban . Not everyone will be redeemed

from Hellfire. Only those who observed fast THAT ONE DAY faithfully, hoping for

reward from Allah, taking care not to sin , aware of Allah, reminding yourself of the

Attributes of Allah, all the time you are aware of what you sent forward in the Day of

Judgement (reward), aware all the time, abandoning sins , doing good deeds all the

time. Then at the time of breaking of fast , hopefully Allah will free us from Hellfire, In

sha Allah.

: Another Hadith

“ In it , the gates of Heaven are opened, the gates of Hell are closed “ : means Allah

facilitates to do good deeds easily & close all means to sins in Ramadhan.

“ All the rebellious mighty devils are chained “ : means all the main source of evil are

not there BUT the evil of the sense remains .

“ In it , there is a night that is better than a thousand months” : May Allah make us

reach Laylat ul Qadr , and establish that night with faith, hoping for reward from

Allah. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Whoever is deprived of this night, he or she is

deprived of all good.” This is the greatest chance to gain. Don’t be of the people who

tend to lose their energy at the end of Ramadhan. So we need a very important act of

worship : Isti’aanah Billah .

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 12

تعين إياك بد وإياك نس نع comes before تقيم مس رٲط ٱل دنا ٱلص ٱه

You (Alone) we worship, and You Guide us to the Straight Way. (6) (Alone) we ask for help (for each

and everything). (5)

That means you will not be able to connect your hearts in the month of Ramadhan, to

have the intention, to do the good deeds, & hope for reward from Allah, unless & until

you attain Allah’s guidance & Allah Help us.

May of us do schedules in making plans for ourselves. But we would not be able to do

even one of these plans if we trust our sense & not trust Allah. So all the time , we

should say :

La Haww La Wa La Quwwata Illaa Billah.

(There is no Might and Power besides Allah ).

“ O Allah, I have unable to fast in the way that pleases You, except when You give me

the power & strength to do so. O Allah, You are the One to Help me “.

Noone can be Guided without Allah . So all the time, say & feel in your heart :

بد و اك نع تعين إي إياك نس

You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything). (5)

Depend on Allah & He will Help you. If Allah sees your truthfulness, Allah will Help

you. But if you rely on yourself ( we , who are always sinning ) , then you will be

disgraced . Seek Help from Allah & you will be Guided .

Isti’aana from 1st day – the salaf were asking Allah for 6 months ( before Ramadhan)

to reach Ramadhan & to help fast in Ramadhan. They are preparing 6 months ahead.

Isti’aana – an important part of worship – and ask Allah for help to observe fast that

pleases Him.

Only Allah has the power to make you able to fast and grant you everything. Ask Him

to allow you to attain the best and the most ibadah and to be accepted. All you have to

do is just ask. He’s always there and always listening.

Ask Allah to make it easy for you to observe the holy month of Ramadan and attain the

best of this holy month.

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 13

: Another Hadith

The Prophet, salallahu alaihi wa salam said : From the first night of Ramadan,

devils and the defiant jins are chained. All gates of Hell are closed, & all gates

of Heaven are opened & NONE of them remain closed .

Everynight a caller will say :

“ O seeker of goodness & virtue ! Come forward “

Calling seeker of the good to come and increase in the good.

A caller from Heaven says :

“ O evildoer ! Halt (desist) , and do not come forward “

Calling for all evil doers and sinners to stop from sinning. Hasn’t the time to

stop from sinning, come? Ask yourself . A caller, calling from Heaven to “ stop

from sinning “ – ie stop from committing gheeba, backbiting, not wearing hijab.

Stop it ! Are you ready?

And everynight :

“ a number of sinners are released from Hellfire at the Command of Allah. “

everyday and night Allah releases a person from hell. Another Hadith :

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 14

Take advantage. Invoke Allah as much as you want & believe that Allah will grant

your request.

Advice

Receive the holy month of Ramadhan with Tawbah & Istighfar . Ask Allah to forgive

all our

major sins

minor sins

sins we remember

sins we don’t remember.

Ask Allah to forgive you for delaying from asking to forgive your sins. Many

know the Truth, many know haram , eg they know that not wearing hijab is

haram , yet they delay from wearing hijab . This delaying is a sin. So ask for

forgiveness for delaying the repentance. If unaware, In sha Allah, they are

forgiven. But if they are aware yet they delay the repentance, then they sin. So

ask for forgiveness for wasting :

o wasting time,

o wasting money

o wasting the life

Sitting for hours watching sin . What is sent to the Day of Judgement for watching

sin ? This is a waste of time & waste of life . You will be asked in the Day of

Judgement .

So enter the month of Ramadhan with Itighfar , with Tawbah. Ask for forgiveness for

every sin because when the sins accumulate in the heart, the person will be unable to

do the good deeds. Sins will stop the person from doing good deeds. He will have no

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 15

energy to do good deeds. The sins will obstruct him, prevent him from good. Sins have

bad effect.

So clear your hearts from your sins. You enter Ramadhan with a clear heart so you are

able to do abundant good deeds. You can take the chance which Ramadhan offers.

Ask Allah, He is All Forgiving.

So what do we do ?

i. Tawbah, istighfar.

ii. Isti’aana - ask Allah to help you do good deeds and worship Him alone.

a. La Haww la wa la Quwwata illa Billah

b. إياك نعبد وإياك نستعين You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we

ask for help (for each and everything). (5) c. All the time asking Allah to help us – do not trust yourself but rely on

Allah.

iii. Isti’aada – seek refuge with Allah.

a. From shaitan

b. Our sins - Although shaitan is chained in Ramadhan, but there are

other types of evil in Ramadhan - Our SINS. Shaitan is chained but

what about yourself? Ask Allah by Isti’aada. This means we are afraid

from something & we are running away from something , to Allah for

Protection. So seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our sin – from the

evil of laziness, incapacity, from showing off, from major sins, from

seeking praise from people, etc. All these are evil but you are asking

Allah to Protect you from it, and to overcome it .

c. Bad thoughts - But sometimes, you are sitting down & doing nothing .

Then bad thoughts like suspicion on people , or suspicion about Allah

comes or sexual thoughts. So seek refuge with Allah – A’uudzubillah

from these thoughts - even suspicion over people ( in laws, people) , you

should ask Allah to help/forgive you for thinking.

A’uudzubillah

Say A’uudzubillah from every kind of evil, & from shaitan. Scholars

say , in Ramadhan , only the strong devils are chained, not the small

shayateen. The human shayateen have more effect on the person than

the shayateen of jin. So ask Allah to protect you from all kinds of

devils : Jinn & Ins. Use isti’aadha all the time – not just when your

children are in major problem. Say A’uudzubillah from accidents ,

A’uudzubillah from bad matters and Allah will give you the Protection.

d. Invoke profusely to Allah to accept your good deeds & appreciate it &

reward you for it. “ Ya Rabb , accept this little good deed from me with

good acceptance & abundant reward. “ Pray continuously & persistently.

e. Your relationship with the Quran. We have to keep it strong. Ramadan

is the month of the Quran. The month of Ramadan is great in Allah’s

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 16

Sight due to the revelation of Quran in this month. Ramadhan is the

month of the ( revelation of the ) Quran. This is why Ramadhan has a

high status with Allah. So we must take care of the Ramadhan .

: Observe what is the action in this Hadith & the impact of this action. Hadith

Action in this hadith : reading Quran Jibreel was teaching the whole Quran to

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam in the whole month finish the whole Quran

once a month .

The impact of this hadith : generosity Jibril a.s. was teaching Rasulullah salallahu

‘alaihi wa salam the Quran once a month. And Rasulullah salallahu ‘alaihi wa salam

was more generous in Ramadhan than other months. Studying the Quran increase

one’s faith & makes him more generous.

Many people finish the Quran many times in Ramadhan and they compete. But there

have no effect of the Quran on them. For the Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam,

impact of reading the Quran made him more generous. So what do we do ?

we should read the Quran in a way that would increase our faith.

Allah ordered us to read the Quran ………. Jibril a.s. taught the Quran to

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam once a month in Ramadhan . In the year

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam died, Jibril taught him the Quran twice in

Ramadhan that year.

We have to deal with the Quran in the right way :

i. Read Tertil , slowly

ii. Read with a tone & a beautiful voice

iii. Read , repeating the verses - with understanding , with pondering , with

action

iv. Ponder over every verse . This is Kalamullah . This is the way to read of

Quran :

Ramadan The Opportunity of a Lifetime

pg. 17

1. Focus on Names of Allah, Attributes & Actions of Allah. Allah

showed how He dealt with the people of Thamud, ‘Ad, Fir’aun.

Allah show us His Actions ; so we must learn from Him. He repeated

9 times the Names حيم ? in Surah Al Shu’ara* . Why ٱلعزيز ٱلر

2. Ponder on the description of the believers – how did Allah deal with

them ? Who are the ‘ibad ur rahman in Surah Furqan ? What is

their description ? If you want to be one of the slaves of Ar Rahman,

then you must follow their description? How did Allah deal with the

disbelievers, hypocrites – what did Allah do to them?

3. Focus on the stories of the Prophets & Messengers.

Hadith : Rasulullah said :

“ On the Day of Judgement, Allah asked Nuh a.s. ‘Did you convey My

Message to the people ? ’ .

Nuh a.s. will say ‘ Yes , I did ’.

Allah will ask the people of Nuh a.s. , ‘ Did Nuh convey My Message to

you ?”

and they will say ., ‘ No !! Noone has come to us !! ’ .

Allah will ask Nuh a.s. , ‘ Who is his witness ?’

and Nuh will say , ‘ Mohamad and his followers ‘ “.

Are we ready from this story to testify in the Day of Judgement to be with Rasulullah to

testify for Nuh that “ Yes , our Lord, Nuh a.s. did convey Your Message to his people. “.

we know this through the Quran. If you read the Quran without understanding

about Nuh a.s. , his message , what he did, what his people did to him , then how do

you testify on the Day of Judgement ? In order to be a witness for the Prophets with

Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wa salam in the Day of Judgement , then you must know

the stories of each & every Prophets & Messenger in the Quran. This way you are

building pure faith in the Prophets & Messengers and be a witness for them in the Day

of Judgement.

4. Stories of other ancient people – eg story of the people with the 2

gardens, people of the cave, owners of the gardens .

5. Parables – we have to focus on the parables because Allah is pleased

with those who served with servitude in the Quran. Every verse that

says ‘ mathal “ , stop & ponder .

Do not read in haste . Read slowly ( Tarteela) is in Command of Allah . Do not be

upset if you did not finish the full Quran. It is much better to read slowly , with

understanding .

Ibn Qayyim r.a. said ‘ Understanding one verse with understanding is better than to

finish the whole Quran without understanding “.
