Case  Study  The  client   is  a  U.S.  based  Drilling  Tool  Rental  Company.  The  client’s  customer   is  an  independent  exploraJon  and  producJon  company  with  U.S.  land  operaJons.

The   client   puts   great   emphasis   on   their   ability   to   accurately   track   every   specific  component  in  their  asset  inventory.  The  client’s  customer  has  expressed  interest  in  greater  efficiency  and  effecJveness  in  tracking  and  managing  the  drill  pipe  they  rent  from  our  client.    IdenJcal  to  the  rest  of  the  industry  this  client  currently  relies  on  steel  hard  stamping  the   serial   number   to   track  drill   pipe.   Tubular   ID  Division  of   Pipe  Maintenance   Inc.  tagged  the  drill  pipe  joints  for  permanent  tracking  and  traceability.

Case  Study  The  Environment   The  down  hole  parameters  were:

•  Total  Depth  –  20,477  a  o  VerJcal  –  9,507  a  o  Lateral  –  10,907  a

•  Bit  Torque  –  12,500  a  lbs  •  ROP  –  110-‐120  a/hr  •  Down  Hole  Temperature  -‐  300°F  -‐  350°F

o  Temperature  on  Tool  Joint  due  to  FricJon  ≈  1,200°F  §  *EsJmate  based  upon  inspecJon

of  Tool  Joint  post  drilling  by  Drill  Pipe  Mfg.

•  Total  Drilling  Time  –  22  Days  o  VerJcal  –  12  Days  o  Lateral  –  10  Days

•  Total  Joint  Physical  Parameters  o  Over  0.300  in.  wear  on  tool  joint

above  BHA  o  Preheat  tool  joint  to  500°F  to

apply  hardbanding

Tubular  ID  tagged  316  joints  of  Rotary  Drilling  Tools  Wear  Knot  Pipe  to  be  used  through  the  turn  for  a  lateral  well  drilled  in  the  Bakken.  The  parJcular  region  is  known  to  be  especially  abrasive  to  drill  pipe  and  other  BHA  components.

Page 13: RAM Complete Presentation2

Case  Study  The  Challenge  •  Tag  survivability,  reliability  and  readability

of  100%  throughout  the  enJre  lifecycle  of  the  drill  pipe.

The  Outcome  •  ALL  tags  survived  this  harsh  down  hole

environment  •  ALL  tags  remained  readable  by  both

scanner  and  visually  •  NO  other  tag  could  have  survived  the

fricJon,  heat  and  tool  joint  wear  •  ZERO  failures

Benefits  to  the  Client  •  The  client  has  now  found  a  TAG  that  survives  the  enJre  lifecycle  of  their  assets.

This  allows  them  to  effecJvely  idenJfy  and  manage  their  assets  through  the  various  processes  endured  during  the  life  cycle.  Thus  reducing  the  risks  associated  with  a  lack  of  accurate  traceability.
