3www.rak-ia.com

Message from the CEO Ras Al Khaimah’s transformation into one of the most exciting investment, manufacturing, trade, tourism and lifestyle destinations in the world continues to grow under the able leadership and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. A key indicator that reflects Ras Al Khaimah’s strong socio-economic performance is the increasing number of global companies that are investing in the emirate, while the impressive combination of premium residential and leisure amenities that continue to be built across Ras Al Khaimah reflect the excellent quality of life that is being enjoyed by citizens and residents alike.

Ras Al Khaimah has remained steadfast on its commitment to promote sustainable development and economic diversification. One of the important measures implemented in line with the directives of His Highness was the establishment of the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA) in 2005 to oversee the sustainable socio-economic growth of the emirate.

Within just four years of operation, RAKIA has transformed Ras Al Khaimah into a magnet of global investments with large number of local and international companies from a diverse range of industries registering with RAKIA in Al Jazerra, Al Hamra and Al Ghail Industrial and Free-Zone Parks.

The economic progress we are now witnessing is indeed a sign of more positive things to come. The government reforms, the business-friendly policies and the substantial investments being made to boost the infrastructure facilities are now beginning to create a significant impact on the emirate’s socioeconomic standing. I would like to thank all our investors for their trust and confidence in us and also like to assure our continuous support and attention at all times.

Sincerely,For RAK Investment AuthorityDr. Khater Massaad

Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA) was established following the Emiri Decree No. (2)/ 2005 issued by H.H. Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah. RAKIA was created to boost the industrial and business opportunities and realise a long-term strategy for the emirate’s socioeconomic development. Within a few years, RAKIA has attracted large number of local & international companies to RAK and importantly, is laying down the foundation to a more resilient and robust economy by gathering hundreds of foreign direct investment year-on-year.

The primary task of RAKIA is to develop and manage the industrial zones including the free and non-free zones in Al Hamra and Al Ghail areas, which are located about 15 and 40 kilometers away from the Ras Al Khaimah City, respectively.

RAKIA Performance HighlightsRAKIA growth and performance can be gauged by taking a quick look at some of the relevant figures below :

Total No. of Licenses

Up to 2009, 2571 companies were registered with RAKIA.

The Non Free-Zone in Al Hamra, which has a total area of 2.83 million sqm, has been completely leased out to 94 companies of which 90 percent are from the manufacturing sector.

The Free-Zone at Al Hamra, which has a total area of 1.89 million sqm, has been leased out to about 103 companies, of which 89 percent are from the manufacturing sector.

RAKIA Industrial Park, which spans 22 million sqm (leasable area) of which approximately 18 percent is Free-Zone. 5.4 million sqm has already been leased out to 233 companies so far, of which 93 per cent are into manufacturing.

In response to Ras Al Khaimah’s growing emergence as a top-choice business destination, RAKIA established RAKOFFSHORE – and the International Business Company (IBC) concept- to address the growing demand for offshore markets, while also complementing the emirate’s ongoing economic diversification program.

RAKOFFSHORE is an innovative initiative that establishes a true offshore facility and regulatory body providing complete offshore non-resident business registration and financial services through registered agents, which mainly comprise reputed law firms and chartered accountants or auditing companies. Currently there are more than 50 such agents on board with 3,000 companies.

The growth of RAKIA to a large extent is a reflection of Ras Al Khaimah’s success in introducing reforms, formulating new laws and regulations and enforcing policies that are in the best interests of local, regional and international investors.
