Trust has beenfirming up plansf o r a n e wdevelopment in Ashton upon Mersey Ward, at thesite of the former Atkinson Road care facility. Itwill be a new concept extra care scheme withover 60 dwellings being created.

Unfortunately the new plans mean that theexisting Palace Court sheltered scheme, which

does not meet modern housing standards, will beclosing. Ashton councillors Brian Rigby, JohnLamb and Mike Whetton have been attendingmeetings with the residents of Palace Court tooffer every possible support to minimise thedisruption that moving home brings. Everyresident is being given high priority as they are re-located and all will have the opportunity to moveinto the new extra care scheme once it iscompleted.

It is a significantly sized project that will now be

built and it has been allocated monies from thegovernments Homes and Communities Agency.Extra care includes such things as restaurantfacilities for residents and the wider community,as well as health facilities, a hair salon and shop.A very successful scheme is already operating atNewhaven in Timperley.

Queen's Diamond Jubilee Year 2012Next year will be theDiamond Jubilee year ofHer Majesty QueenElizabeth II. In the historyof the British monarchyonly Queen Victoria's reignof 63 years surpasses thisamazing achievement. Thelong week-end of 2nd tothe 5th June 2012 is the official commemorativeholiday.

Ashton Ward councillors have already started totalk to traders in the village and localorganisations about how Ashton upon Merseypeople might mark and celebrate the occasion. The first thing that residents may want to plan foris street parties. In Ashton ward there were alarge number of highly successful street partiesto celebrate the Royal Wedding earlier this yearand Councillors are anticipating that residentsmay wish to repeat the success of these in Junenext year.

Councillor John Lamb commented "As the Queenhas been on the throne now for 60 years, formany this will be a once in a lifetime opportunityto celebrate a Diamond Jubilee. We are makingsuggestions about how this could be marked butwe would like to hear from Ashton residentsabout how they think we should celebrate this."Use the contact details on this edition of
