Raising Manual Flags and Kudos

Good to know:

Raising a flag or kudos (manually or via a early alert or mid-term report survey) on your student will

• be captured in the student’s MavCONNECT record

• produce an automatic email from the Office of Student Success to the student regarding the flag or kudo

• Your comments on the flag or kudo will be included in the email to the student

• notify applicable support service personnel in the student’s MavCONNECT success network who may then reach out to the student, comment on their outreach efforts and interactions with the student about the flag, and “clear” the flag if satisfactory outreach was made.

How to Raise a Flag Outside of Early Alert or Mid-Term Reporting:

1. Click on the three-line navigation button at the upper left of your MavCONNECT page.

Under the navigation menu that pops up, click "Students" and search for the studentfor whom you are creating the flag.

2. Once you have found the student in your list, click on the student’s name, then click on“Flag”

You should see a dialogue box like this:

3. Click the appropriate flag in the “Flag” drop down menu.

MavCONNECT flag choices are:

• Attendance Concern

• Online Participation Concern

• Low Quiz/Test Scores

• Missing/Late Assignments

• General or Personal Concern

• In Danger of Failing

(available week 8 of the semester)

• In Danger of Earning Below a C

(available week 8 of the semester)

Each flag you raise on the same student will notify them via a system-generated email (except General/Personal Concerns) and provide resources aligned with the concerns you may be sharing.

Note: If you have an urgent, non-academic concern about a student (e.g. imminent risk of harming self or others) , please contact University Security at 507-389-2111.

4. Select the Course Context if applicable

5. Use the comment section to provide some details on this flag.

Remember, your comments will be viewable to the student. Best practices suggest using first person language.

6. Click “Save”

When you click Save, MavCONNECT will send email notifications about the flag with your comments to the flagged student and the flag/comments you submit will be viewable to the student's assigned advisor and other applicable support servicepersonnel in the student’s success network.

How to Issue Kudos

1. Click on the three-line navigation button at the upper left of your MavCONNECT page.Under the navigation menu that pops up, click "Students" and search for the studentfor whom you are creating the flag.

2. Once you have found the student in your list, click on the student’s name, then click on“Kudo”

3. Click the appropriate kudo in the “Kudos” drop down menu.

MavCONNECT kudo choices are:

Keep Up the Good Work

Satifactory Performance

4. Select the Course Context

5. Enter any Comments you wish to make

6. Click “Save”

When you click Save, an email notification about the kudo with your comments is sent

to the student’s MavMAIL email account.
