All Portwest garments are labelled in accordance with EN 340. This is the harmonised European standardthat specifies the general requirements for the sizingand marking of protective clothing.
The measurement on the label is for the wearers body size and not the finished measurement of the garment. Portwest take the greatest care to ensure there is uniform sizing throughout the entire range of garments.

EN 471 – Quality GuaranteedThe cornerstone of Portwest's success has always been its stringent quality control. Can you be sure the product you are wearingconforms to EN 471? A certificate from a test house guarantees that the garment or fabric sent to the test house has attained theEN 471 standard. It is not a guarantee that the bulk production meets the standard. Therefore, Portwest check every roll of fabric andreflective tape with highly specialised equipment which guarantees all production from Portwest achieves the EN 471 standard.Portwest is committed to supplying our customers with continued and consistent high standards.
In the Portwest quality control laboratory weuse the Minolta spectrophotometer to checkevery roll of fabric. This guarantees that thefabric used is fully compliant to the EN 471standard.
This graph displays the CIE 1931 X,Y chromaticity diagramwhich defines a colour space for graphing colour.

HiVisTex gives superiorperformance in all weather conditions. Every roll of reflective tape is tested separately toensure that it meets the EN 471 standard.

EN 471:2003 - HIGH VISIBILITY
EN 471 is the harmonised European standard for high visibilityclothing. It specifies the requirements for signalling the userspresence day or night. It intends to make users in hazardoussituations conspicuous under any light conditions.The standard provides for two performance parameters:
X = Surface of fluorescent and retro-reflectivematerial (3 levels)Y = Quality of the retro-reflecting materials (2 levels)
Class 3: Highest LevelHighest level of protection - required for anypersons working on or near motorways ordual-carriage ways or airports. Must incorporatea minimum of 0.80m2 of background material and 0.20m2 of retro-reflective materials.(4 metres of 5cm wide reflective tape)
Class 2: Intermediate LevelRequired for any persons working on or near A and B class roads, also for delivery drivers.Must incorporate a minimum of 0.50m2 ofbackground material and 0.13m2 of retro-reflective material. (2.60 metres of 5cm wide reflective tape)

EN 343 - FOUL WEATHER PROTECTION
EN 343 is the harmonised European standard that applies togarments worn in adverse weather conditions. It specifies thecharacteristics of protective clothing against the influenceof foul weather, wind and cool above - 5oc.The standard provides for two performance parameters:
X = Waterproofness (3 levels)Y = Breathable properties (3 levels)
EN 340 - PROTECTIVE CLOTHING - GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
This European standard specifies general performance requirements for ergonomics, innocuousness, size designation, ageing, compatibility and marking of protective clothing and the information to be supplied by the manufacturer with the protective clothing.

EN 510 - ANTI-ENTANGLEMENT

GO/RT 3279 - RAIL INDUSTRY STANDARD
Railway Group Standard sets out the minimum specification for high visibility warning clothing in the Rail Industry.
EN 531 - PROTECTION AGAINST HEATAND FLAME
EN 531 is the harmonised European standardfor protective clothing for industrial workers exposed to heat (excluding firefighters’ and welders’ clothing). The following categorisation states performance levels:
A – limited flame spread
B – protection against convective heat
C – protection against radiant heat
D – protection against molten aluminium splash
E – protection against molten iron splash
EN 342 - PROTECTION AGAINST COLD
EN 342 is the harmonised European standard that specifies requirements and test methods for performance of clothing ensembles (ie. two piece suits or coveralls) and of single garments for protection against cold environment.
