Can you believe that Term 1 is at its end! We have now been in our new learning spaces for close to 11 full weeks! It certainly has been a busy term with unpacking, settling into our new environment and lots of fabulous learning experiences. Parent Teacher Interviews It was fantastic to see so many of you at school this week for parent/teacher interviews. It is such an important part of schools and families working together. Whilst we do have this formal time at the end of Term 1, a reminder that you are most welcome to schedule an interview with your child’s class teacher or any of the support teachers at any time during the year. This is particularly important if you have a concern or a change in family circumstances that may impact on your child. Simply contact the school to organise a mutually convenient time. Staff News Miss Goldspink commences her study and professional development leave next term. We thank Kerri for the great start she has given 2G this year and look forward to Mr Ethan Rhodes joining the Rainbow Street PS school community from next term. Ms Orla Kirwan has worked in the Office part-time at Rainbow Street PS for the last 14 and a half years. Orla also works at Pagewood PS. Pagewood recently had an increase in Office staff hours and, sadly for us, Orla has been appointed there full-time. Orla has been instrumental in ensuring that students are cared for and the Office runs smoothly. She has helped many, many parents, students and staff over the time that she has been at Rainbow Street. Whilst we will miss Orla enormously, we can all empathise that working in one location will be much easier for her and her family. We thank Orla for all that she has done in her time at Rainbow Street, the kindness, care and support she has given, and look forward to catching up with her at our school events such as the official opening of the ‘new’ school. Easter Celebrations Thank you to everyone who was involved with or attended our celebrations on Wednesday. We had lots of magnificent hats, a visit from the Easter Bunny and over 120 raffle prizes!

Disabled Surfers Association of Australia (DSAA) On Saturday, 6 April 2019, the DSAA held one of their annual surfing events at Toowoon Bay on the Central Coast. The DSAA is a totally voluntary registered public institution and surfing’s only registered charity dedicated to the disabled. The institute’s mantra is “Putting Smiles on Dials”. In attendance at this event was Rainbow Street Public School’s very own Kate. Kate participated in her first surfing experience with the support of the DSAA volunteers and a surprise helper, Mr Roberts. Kate had a wonderful time at the

DSAA event and has enjoyed sharing her surfing stories with her peers this week.

Major Capital Works Update Much grass laying has occurred this week. We now have to be patient whilst it ‘takes’.

Holiday works:

Kane will be working in the car park area the first week of the holidays. Access to site for TRAC will be through the main school gates. There will be a section of the COLA fenced off as Kane need to do some work on the pipes. Other areas used by TRAC will all be as usual.

During the second week, Kane plans to clean, grout and seal the tiles in the main entrance. This will mean that TRAC will need to be accessed through the carpark/side gate near the TRAC entrance door, much like when TRAC opened in the January holidays.

Please note that the Young Street gate will not be open during the school holiday period. All access to TRAC will be through the front of the school.

Recent Uniform Sale Went very well. Thanks to those parents and children who volunteered, bought, interacted. Nice to meet you all. Special thanks to Isabel and Carol Ann for their organising finesse. Easter Hat Parade Went very well. You may have seen us parents and teachers folding the (many, many) raffle tickets, but may not have appreciated the amazing effort Linh, Karen and the Library Friday crew have put in over the last few weeks.

Survey Closed last Friday. I hear Craig can’t wait to present the results next meeting. Next Meeting May 6th, 6pm in K Block (Stage 3 area). See you next Term. Greg./ [email protected] http://www.rainbowstpandc.org.au
