1 Supported InvertersAll the inverters listed require the SENEC storage system to have the latest firmware version. This can be found in the download area of mein-senec.de.

The firmware version installed on the storage system will be shown in the local monitoring system under “Informa-tion” > “MCU revision”.

Inverters not included in this list can also be used. This requires the installation of a power meter 2 or power meter 3. Please note the connection variants in the installation instructions for your SENEC storage system. These can be downloaded at mein-senec.de.

2 Installation instructions

2.1 General pointsTThe inverters must be connected in accordance with the instructions for the respective inverter model. It is vital that pins 1, 2 and 4 of the RJ45 socket on the SENEC storage system are correctly connected to the RS485 B, RS485 A and GND terminals of the inverter (pin assignment see „Appendix A“, page 18). For information on pin assignment for the inverter, please consult the inverter manual or the manufacturer.

The colour coding of the cores may differ depending on the cable used. Cables are generally pre-assembled to com-ply with the EIA/TIA 568B standard, but you may also have acquired a cable pre-assembled in line with the standard EIA/TIA 568A. If you are unsure, please check the lettering printed on the cable. This should show the relevant code.

2.2 Kostal invertersIn Kostal inverters, the RS485 communication terminal is located under the cover of the casing. On the SENEC storage system, the RJ45 cable is plugged into the RJ45 socket normally. The cable must be opened and the 3 pins plugged into the terminal on the Kostal inverter, as shown in Figure 1 “Connection of the Kostal inverters”.

If multiple Kostal inverters are used, the cable cores can be daisy chained to further inverters in a series configura-tion.

The Kostal inverter’s RS485 address is set to 255 as standard. This address must be entered when configuring the software for the SENEC storage system. When multiple Kostal inverters are used, a separate RS485 address must be assigned to each Kostal inverter and then entered when configuring the software for the SENEC storage system.

2.2.1 Piko MP

In Kostal Piko MP inverters, the RJ45 socket is located on the side of the housing. On the SENEC energy storage system, the RJ45 cable is normally plugged into the RJ45 socket. Please note that pin 1 (white/white-orange) on the SENEC goes to pin 2 (orange) on the Piko MP inverter and vice versa.

2.2.2 Piko IQ and Plenticore plus

To configure the SENEC storage system software, both the inverter IP address and the RS485 address must be en-tered when selecting the Kostal Piko IQ and Plenticore plus inverters in the configuration wizard (see Fig. 3).

1. Read off the IP address from the status bar from the inverter display when it is in “Operational status”. The IP address will be shown on the bottom left of the display. This status bar alternates every 5 seconds.

2.3 SolarInvert inverters

2.3.1 Pin assignment for RJ45 socket

Like the SENEC storage system, the SolarInvert PPI series has an RJ45 socket for RS485 communication. However, the pin assignment of the sockets is different.

On the SolarInvert PPI, socket 1 has to be used while socket 2 can be used either to terminate the bus with a terminal resistor or to daisy-chain the signal in series to further SolarInvert PPI inverters. In the inverter’s service menu, an RS485 address must subsequently be assigned to each inverter and then entered when configuring the software for the SENEC storage system.

2.3.2 Reading and setting the RS485 address

If you wish to read off or set the RS485 address for a PPI series SolarInvert inverter, please proceed as follows:

10. Simultaneously press “ENTER” and the up arrow.

A password request will be displayed.

11. Enter the password “2992”.

The communication settings, including the RS485 address, will be shown at the very bottom of the display.

2.4 Fronius inverters

2.4.1 Fronius IG Plus

A Modbus card, which enables RS485 communication with the SENEC energy strage system, is also available for the Fronius IG Plus. First, the RS485 address must first be selected on the Modbus card prior to installation. Use a screwdriver to adjust the setting wheels (see Fig. 6 Setting the Modbus ID). The control dials work with a hexadecimal system.

Please note:To ensure trouble-free operation, the Modbus device ID must be set to a value between 1 and 247 (01 to F7 hex). Each Modbus device ID may only accur once in a Modbus system.

After the RS485 address has been set successfully, the Modbus card can be installed. Finally, the plug of the Fronius inverter can be assembled.

The orange connector shown in the image above is included in the scope of delivery of the Modbus card. As can be seen in the image, pins 1 (white or white-orange) and pin 2 (orange) must be inserted into the connectors with the wire end ferrules pressed on. Pin 1 must be inserted into the 3rd socket and pin 2 into the 5th socket (seen from the left).

The cable connected to the connector must then be attached to the Modbus card. Its other end with the RJ45 connec-tor must be connected to the SENEC storage system.

Enter the RS485 adress (which is set via the setting wheel, see „2.4.1 Fronius IG Plus“, page 13) in the configuration wizard of the SENEC storage system.

2.4.2 Fronius Symo and Primo

A Datamanager 2 card is additionally available for the Fronius Symo and Primo. This card enables RS485-based communication with the SENEC storage system possible. The firmware of the Datamanager 2 card must be at least version 3.3.6 in order for communication to run smoothly.

Like the Fronius IG Plus, the Fronius Symo and Primo are supplied with a connector. The cores of the RJ45 cable (white/white-orange see „Appendix A“, page 18) must be inserted into the connector as shown. Please use wire end ferrules without collar, as contact problems between core and cable often occurred during test runs.

Insert the wired connector into the Datamanager 2 card of the Fronius Symo. Insert the other end of the cable into the RJ45 socket of the SENEC storage system.

The software for the Symo must then be configured directly on the device via the display.

First, an RS485 address must be selected. To do this, use the control panel to navigate to “Setup” -> “Datacom” -> “Inverter number”. Here you can set the device’s RS485 address, which must also be stored in the SENEC storage system in the same way.

You should also set the protocol “Solar Net” under “Protocol type”.

2.5 SolarMax invertersSolarMax inverters also have an RJ45 socket for RS485 communication. Again, the pin assignment differs from the SENEC socket.

2.6 Delta invertersDelta inverters either have one or more RJ45 sockets or a corresponding terminal block for RS485 communication.

If RJ45 sockets are used for RS485 communication, the pin assignment differs from the SENEC storage system’s socket as follows:

An inverter ID must be assigned to the Delta inverter in the “Install Settings” menu. Te ID corresponds to the RS485 address and must also be entered when configuring the software for the SENEC storage system.

Please note:The inverters are only compatible within each individual group (stated under section 2). It is not possible to operate inverters from different groups simultaneously.

NOTICE

2.7 SMA invertersThe SMA inverters must have the SMA “Speedwire / Webconnect interface” for communication with the SENEC sys-tem. This is already included in newer models and can be retrofitted in older models. For more information, please see the documents on your particular inverter type which are available at www.sma.de.

With regard to hardware, you must connect the SMA inverter to the client network via ethernet cable. The SMA invert-er offers an RJ45 interface for this purpose.

Settings for the SMA inverter

With regard to software, the correct settings must still be configured using the Sunny Explorer software. To do this, proceed as follows:

1. Start Sunny Explorer and set up a Speedwire system.

2. Log into the Speedwire system as an installer.

3. Select the SMA inverter that you wish to configure.

4. Select the tab “Settings”.

5. Select the parameter “External communication” and press “Edit” here.

6. For the TCP server, under “Switched on” select the entry “yes”. In the field “Port”, leave the server settings un-changed or set Port 502.

7. For the UDP server, under “Switched on” select the entry “yes”. In the field “Port”, leave the standard settings unchanged or set Port 502.

8. Store the configuration.

Settings for the SENEC storage system

1. Open the GUI for local monitoring and go to “Settings” -> “Configure”.

2. Run the configuration wizard as usual, until you reach the configuration of the PV inverter.

3. PV inverter: Select the manufacturer “SMA”, the type “Webconnect module” and the number of devices.

4. PV inverter 1: Enter the IP address and the number of phases corresponding to the devices installed. Read the IP address from the display of the SMA inverter.

5. Re-start the MCU.

2.8 SolarEdge invertersFirst, you must set the Modbus protocol via the external LCD menu key:

1. Press the LCD key on the inverter until the menu is displayed.

2. Under “Communication”, select the menu item “RS485-1 Conf”.

3. Select: Device Type “NON SE LOGGER <LGR>” Protocol “SUNSPEC <SS>” Device ID <as per the configuration; 1 to 247 possible> Baud rate <115200>

In order to integrate the SolarEdge inverter, proceed as follows:

1. Open the cover of the casing.

2. Remove the RS485 terminal strip.
