G’Day
A very warm welcome to the 2020 school year and our first newsletter for the year. It has been great to
meet so many of our new and returning students and their families over the last week. With the help of our
amazing staff, I am looking forward to continuing the great work that Rainbow Beach State School is known
for. I would also like to thank many of you for the way that you have welcomed my family and I back to
Rainbow Beach.
As staff we look forward to working in partnership with you to enrich the lives of your children. I
personally look forward to connecting with as many of our community members as possible throughout this
year.
The first weeks of a school year are a busy and exciting time. Our youngest students are beginning their
formal education years which can obviously be a big transition. Many of our students will be quickly
adjusting to the school routines and will no doubt be coming home
tired over the first few weeks.
At Rainbow Beach State School our students will be exposed to a
wide array of academic and extra-curricular opportunities. I
encourage all of our students to engage with the variety of
experiences that are on offer this year so that many can challenge
themselves personally, socially and academically. With the right
mindset combined with the right support and challenge, great things
are possible!
Already over the last couple of weeks I have been quickly reminded
of the significant support and contributions made by businesses and
members of our community. We have a number of volunteers that
offer their time and expertise to add value on a regular basis. These
contributions cannot be under estimated and our School is a better
place due to their efforts.
Additionally I the pleasure of reacquainting myself with the crew
from Rainbow Beach Pharmacy who as a result of their gift wrapping service prior to Christmas were able to
raise $70. This was kindly donated to the Schools P&C. Thank you for your ongoing support of our
School.
Have a great week!

DATES TO REMEMBER IN FEBRUARY
Welcome to Prep/1 2020! We have had a great start to Term 1 and the children have impressed us with their manners and behaviour.
The children have also learned about time to shine S is for sitting, H is for hands in laps, I is for in your
space, N is for not a sound, E is for eyes to me. They have embraced this strategy and are settling well at
carpet time.
Last week we completed a range of fun learning activities and these also provided opportunities for
introducing routines and for the children to get to know each other. We really enjoyed our Australia day
activities have begun to learn the National Anthem.
Congratulations to the whole class for such a wonderful start to the school year and a huge thankyou to the
staff and volunteers who made their first week run smoothly. Thanks to Gayle Young, Mrs Dargusch, Mrs
Sarah and Mrs Ruescher .
Wishing Nikkita and Xavier big birthday wishes for their 6th year

Year 2/3 News A fantastic five days have now been had in the grade two and three classroom. The two groups of children
have reunited after being apart for last year. The class has been busy developing their culture and already
have unique ways of doing things. Brainstorming for our Class / Country name is now complete and it is
now down to the difficult task of selecting one! A job made easier by the efforts of the students and their
families. Plans are already in place for the class camp to Barambah Environmental Education Centre, which
will take place in week 9 of this term. The class is excited for the year ahead and is off to a wonderful start.
We look forward to sharing more as the year progresses.
