What radio station to use... When deciding which radio station on which to play our radio trailer we looked into a range of different ones to help us decide which one is most similar to what are trailers about and the target audience etc.

What radio station to use...

When deciding which radio station on which to play our radio trailer we looked into a range of different ones to help us decide which one is most similar to what are trailers about and the target audience etc.

FREE RADIO.• Another radio station is FREE radio (previously known as BRMB).

• Free radio broadcasts locally-produced programming playing 1980s chart music alongside news and information and live football commentaries.

• It only has a small audience of 5.9% (sept.2012), and there target audience is aimed at 24-45 males and females, which is not specific to our target audience range.

• Firstly, we looked at BBC RADIO 1 -http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/

• Radio 1, is generally listened to by people who enjoy their music, as it focuses on chart music and plays the ‘Official top 40 chart’ weekly. We thought this would be a good radio station to use as many celebrities who the general public idolize are singers.

• The average age of people who listen to radio 1, are teens, to the age of 30.

• This was also a reason why we considered choosing this to play our trailer, as we have aimed our documentary on a similar age range (teens – 25).

However because our documentary will be shown on channel 4, it is unlikely BBC will advertise for another channel.

CAPITAL FM.• Capital FM currently have a audience of

7.1 million listeners, and have a target audience of the ages 12-20.

• This is the first radio station that is the most similar to what we want our target audience to be like.

• They also cover a larger audience as they have listeners in London, Birmingham, Yorkshire and more..

HEART FM.• Heart FM is aimed at people aged 25-

44 which is out of our target audience.

• It only reaches a small audience of 8.4%.

• Heart FM only broadcast to Birmingham and West midlands, which is not a wide audience in which we want to advertise our documentary too.

• Therefore I think capital FM would be the best radio station to advertise our radio trailer as it will reach out to the most people and it is most suited for out target audience.
