At 1:23 am on 26th April, 1986 a human error and poor safety standards caused a terrible explosion. It was a nuclear accident at Chernobyl Power Station.

Scientists all over the world claim nuclear energy to be the best solution to the energy crisis. What can be done now? Many questions need to be answered by politicians, physicists, energy experts and people who were fortunate enough not to be directly affected by the disaster. One thing is certain: those who suffered the horror of Chernobyl know what it is like when the full power of the atom is accidentally released.

The accident in Chernobyl has influenced the ecological situation in Leningrad region. This accident caused high level of land pollution. Radioactive elements from soil get into plants and then into human organism.

Condition of radiation safety of Gatchina is in general rated as acceptable. Besides, radiation dangerous objects meet the requirements of laws and standards in use of nuclear energy.

All in all, if people use nuclear energy following safely rules it not only saves natural resources but brings benefit and no harm.
