Every year around the end of may the gradstudents of the zurich university of applied sciences dress with tuxedos (german: frack) and have aparty at school for a whole week celebrating their graduation. Also they are showing their beards they have been growing during the time theywrote their Bachelor Thesis (around 100 days). This picture shows a typical “fracki” .

Es wäre vermessen, sämtliche auf dem Markt befindliche und von Personalabteilungengenutzte Persönlichkeitstests aufzählen zu wollen. Es gibt zu viele. Allerdings gibt es auch besonders populäre und häufig genutzte.Ihnen gemeinsam ist die Behauptung, Wesentliches über die Persönlichkeit herausbringen zu können. Lassen wir das grafologische undastrologische Gutachterwesen einmal beiseite und beschränken uns auf die Favoriten in psychologischen Testverfahren: Motivation:Wodurch lässt sich eine Person motivieren? (zum Beispiel Reiss-Profile). Präferenzen im Verhalten: Nach welchen Vorlieben verhält sicheine Person charakteristischerweise? (zum Beispiel DISG, Insights, MBTI). Denktypus: Wie geht eine Person denkerisch, rational oderverstandesgemäß vor, um Aufgaben zu behandeln? (zum Beispiel HBDI). Das Spektrum derAnsätze ist begrenzt, ebenso wie die Farben, mit denen Ergebnisse visualisiert werden. Rot, Gelb, Blau und Grün tauchen immer wieder auf,meist mit ähnlichen Bedeutungen. Testkritik ist so alt wie Tests. Die lobende Preisung der Erkenntnisleistung von Tests war immer begleitet vonkritischer Melodie. Vor allem wird infrage gestellt – und das gilt ebenso für Assessment Center wie für andere standardisierte Auswahlverfahren–, inwiefern Tests überhaupt testen, was sie zu testen vorgeben. Die Kontroverse um Intelligenztests bringt es auf den Punkt: Was Intelligenzsei, wisse man bis heute nicht – also teste man etwas, von dem man nicht wisse, was es sei. Genauso verhält es sich mit emotionaler undsozialer Intelligenz und mit prognostischen Aussagen zu Leistungsvermögen und Potenzial oder Talent. Sie ist die Gründerin des Kompetenzzentrums«Gewebe zur Wirkstoffentwicklung», das dort Anfang des Jahres eröffnet wurde. Die Idee, dreidimensionale Modelle von Gewebe dermenschlichen Haut, der Leber oder von Tumoren zu züchten und daran neue Wirkstoffe zu testen, ist nicht neu, doch haperte es bisher ander Umsetzung in die Praxis. Dies haben sich die Forscher in Wädenswil zur Aufgabe gemacht. Sie wollen gemeinsam mit Anbietern undAbnehmern von 3-D-Geweben Lösungen entwickeln, die eine routinemässige Anwendung ermöglichen. Mehr als 90Prozent der Substanzen, die diese Zellkultur-Hürde passiert hätten, scheiterten nachher im Tierversuch oder in klinischen Tests an Menschen.Zellkulturen, die nur aus einer Lage Zellen bestehen, sind eben kein so gutes Modell für den menschlichen Körper. 3-D-Gewebe simulierendie echten Bedingungen besser, da sie aus verschiedenen Zelltypen bestehen und sogar Blutgefässe enthalten können. Die Hoffnung ist,dass damit mehr ungeeignete Wirkstoffe von vornherein ausgeschlossen werden können. Die Firma Insphero ist ein Spin-off von ETH und UniZürich und produziert Modelle von etwa Leber- oder Tumorgewebe; Lichtenberg ist einer der Mitgründer des Zentrums. Es sei wichtig gewesen,einen Industriepartner im Boot zu haben, sagt Graf-Hausner. Das bedeute aber nicht, dass man die Produkte von Insphero bevorzuge. Dajeder Kunde andere Bedürfnisse habe, gehe es darum, das richtige System für jeden zu finden und es anzupassen. Zurzeit vergleichen dieForscher in Wädenswil acht Gewebe-Systeme von unterschiedlichen Anbietern. Die Mikrogewebe sind etwa so gross wie ein Sandkorn undschwimmen in Nährlösungen oder sind in gelartige Substanzen eingebettet. Die Forscher untersuchen, wie gut sich diese Systeme eignen, umetwa die Wirkung von Krebsmedikamenten zu erkennen, und ob sie automatisierbar sind, um einen hohen Probendurchsatz zu gewährleisten.Blutkreislauf simulieren Um Tierversuche ganz zu ersetzen, sind allerdings komplexere organähnliche Systeme gefragt. Eine Idee ist, in diesenauch einen Blutstrom zu simulieren, der Nährstoffe und potenzielle Wirkstoffe enthält. Ob die Komplexität des menschlichen Körpers mit derWechselwirkung verschiedener Organe je richtig simuliert werden kann, wird sich noch zeigen. Solche Modelle wären aber wünschenswert, dasie auch verschiedene Krankheiten abbilden könnten und als menschliche Gewebe die Reaktion besser darstellen würden als das Tier, sagtGraf-Hausner.

Mai 2011) stellte den US-Abgeordneten Ron Paul und die Bewegung «End the FED» vor, die vorallem bei jungen Leuten Zuspruch findet. Diese Bewegung hat ihre Wurzeln in der Geschichte der Vereinigten Staaten. Der Artikel zeigt auf,welche Beweggründe Ron Paul veranlasst haben, in die Politik einzusteigen, und welche Ökonomen und Denkschulen ihn geleitet haben, alsAbgeordneter im Kongress eine FED-kritische Politik zu betreiben.Der nun folgende zweite Teil schliesst hier an und zeigt einen weiteren Aspekt. Dem Libertarian Ron Paul und der «End the FED»-Bewegunggeht es gar nicht direkt um das Geld, sondern um mehr «Freiheit». Was heisst das? Werte wie Ehrlichkeit und Aufrichtigkeit in der Politik undein friedliches Zusammenleben der Bürger mit viel Eigenverantwortung und ohne übertriebene staatliche Regulierungen gehören dazu. RonPaul wünscht sich die USA mit freiheitlichen, föderalistischen Strukturen – ohne einengenden Zentralismus und mit weniger Bevormundungvon seiten des Staates. Die amerikanische Aussenpolitik soll auf den imperialen Anspruch verzichten und aufhören, sich ständig in dieAngelegenheiten fremder Länder einzumischen. Eine Staatengemeinschaft mit einem «freundlichen Gesicht» sollen die USA werden, die denIdealen der Gründerväter wieder mehr entspricht. Zu all dem gehört auch «gesundes» Geld.Ron Paul ist sich als Abgeordneter des Repräsentantenhauses bewusst, dass sich die FED nicht so schnell abschaffen lässt. Soll mandeswegen seine Hände in den Schoss legen? Nein.Transparenz im GeldwesenIm Jahr 2008 reichte Ron Paul im Kongress einen Vorstoss ein mit dem Ziel, die Arbeitsweise der FED in einem wesentlichen Punkt zukorrigieren: Der Kongress soll die Notenbank in ihrem Tun überwachen und Transparenz schaffen. Er begründet dies in seinem Buch «End theFED» wie folgt:«Heute, wo die FED insgeheim mit Krediten und Garantien in Höhe von Billionen Dollars umgeht und ihre Bilanz massiv ausweitet, erfahrenwir weder etwas von Vereinbarungen mit andern Zentralbanken noch darüber, welchen Ländern und Währungen aus der Patsche geholfenwird. Natürlich sagt man uns erst recht nicht, welche ‹Freunde› in der Geschäfts- und Bankenwelt ‹fairer› behandelt werden als andere.» […]«Transparenz ist zurzeit ein heisses Thema im Kongress, denn die Öffentlichkeit ist aufgewacht und verschafft sich Gehör. Davon zeugendie spontanen ‹Tea Parties› im ganzen Land. Es ist unerheblich, ob einer konservativ oder liberal, Republikaner oder Demokrat ist. Die Fragebrennt allen auf den Nägeln.»Ron Paul hat mit seinem Vorstoss etwas bewirkt, was schon beinahe einer Revolution gleichkommt. Obwohl das Gesetz noch gar nichtverabschiedet ist, hat die FED in diesen Tagen zum erstenmal seit ihrer Gründung im Jahre 1913 zahlreiche interne Dokumente veröffentlichtund genaueren Einblick in die Geschäftspolitik der letzten Jahre gewährt. Daraus geht hervor, welche Banken in der Finanzkrise von denBillionen staatlicher Gelder profitiert haben. Es erstaunt, dass auch ausländische Banken dazugehören. Aus den Dokumenten zum Beispiel gehthervor, dass die UBS in der Finanzkrise nicht nur aus der Schweiz gestützt wurde, sondern wie eine amerikanische Grossbank Zugang zu den«Hilfen» der FED hatte. Wie die «Neue Zürcher Zeitung» am 2. April berichtete, konnte die UBS für 30 Milliarden Dollar sogenannte CommercialPapers (schlecht handelbare Handelspapiere) bei der FED deponieren.Neuer Aspekt in der «Too big to fail»-Debatte in der SchweizIn der Schweiz wird im Moment heftig darüber diskutiert, ob unsere beiden «systemrelevanten» Grossbanken UBS und CS nicht viel zu grosssind für ein kleines Land wie die Schweiz, die im Krisenfall für sie haften müsste.

Latest Trends in Air Traffic Control System By Jamal BarkiAir Traffic ControlThe typical image people have of air traffic control (ATC) is that of a group of people in an airport tower who coordinate aircraft activity by staringat radar screens that use points of light to represent aircraft. While not fundamentally incorrect, this isn’t a fair representation of the extentof ATC operations. This article will flesh out that simplistic image and introduce you to the equipment, technologies, and procedures that gointo keeping aircraft and air travelers safe in the air and on the ground. We’ll look at the way air traffic control is organized, and explore thecommunication technologies that air traffic controllers use to keep in touch with air crew and ground personnel. We’ll also look at the radartechnologies used to keep track of aircraft, and we’ll end with a brief look at some next-generation technologies.Safety and wake turbulenceThe primary mandate of air traffic control is to ensure the safe transport of people and cargo by keeping aircraft at a safe distance from eachother and expediting the flow of traffic. Air traffic controllers have access to sophisticated radar systems that provide an overview of the airspacethey control, and they have communication tools to coordinate flight paths with the air crew. Pilots lack the tools necessary to get an overview ofthe airspace, so they have to rely on air traffic controllers to guide the aircraft through congested airspace.Since aircraft travel at significantly higher speeds compared to other common modes of transport, the time available for pilots to react to adangerous situation can be quite short. Thus it’s essential that flight paths are carefully planned and managed to minimize the risk of a collision.This is especially true around major airports where the density of aircraft in a given volume of airspace is higher than average.Turbulence created by wingtip vortices and exhaust gases from jet engines can be significant when aircraft are in close proximity. Thisphenomenon, called “wake turbulence,” can adversely affect trailing aircraft if the distance between them falls below a certain limit. This limitdepends on the mass of the two aircraft. For instance, a light aircraft following a heavy aircraft is more susceptible to wake turbulence thana heavy aircraft in the same situation. Therefore, aircraft approaching an airfield have to be carefully sequenced in a manner that takes suchfactors into consideration. Additionally, weather conditions such as low cloud, heavy rain, or snow blizzards can mean that pilots can’t see otheraircraft in the vicinity and have to use their instruments and instructions from air traffic control to navigate.Types of ATCAir traffic controllers are organized into various groups, each of which is in charge of handling a distinct portion of the aircraft’s flight. Each grouphas a designated airspace that it controls, and aircraft are handed off to the next group of controllers as it approaches the limits of the priorgroup’s airspace. The airspace controlled by each group is further divided into sectors that are themselves handled by individual controllers. Theway these groups are organized varies from country to country and depends on the extent of controlled airspace and number of aircraft handled.The Potomac TRACON facility controls approaches and departures in the airspace surrounding Baltimore Washington International, WashingtonDulles, and Washington National airports.The tower controllers are the most visible group. From their vantage point on the airport tower, they have a visual overview of all the importantparts of the airport tarmac, such as runways and taxiways. Der angewandten Kommunikations- und Medienwissenschaftweht gegenwärtig aus der medialen Öffentlichkeit ein rauer Wind entgegen. Die Betreiber der Windmaschinen reagieren säuerlich auf diePublikation von Studien, die fünf Teams aus verschiedenen Forschungsstätten zur Lage der Presse und der elektronischen Medien in derSchweiz durchgeführt haben.Steine des AnstoßesBeauftragt wurden die Medienwissenschaftler vom Bundesamt für Kommunikation (Bakom).
