Reflection PaperReflection PaperRacial profiling in America has been a struggle for this country throughout history. I believe that racial profiling happens on a daily basis in America. It happens when someone gets pulled over, or when someone walks into a grocery story and is profiled as a suspicious character.I know that racial profiling is predominant in our society but what I would like to learn more about it how predominant it really is. I am also interested in the history of racial profiling and seeing how far we have come from the past. I am not sure if we really have come as far as we believe that we have.

Racial profiling is a continuing problem with Law Enforcement in America. This article discusses this problem and its effects on society. One thing this article points out is that crime perpetrators are viewed as being black or hispanic while the victim is portrayed as being white. This is not the case. In reality, four fifths of violent crimes are interracial. This has not stopped racial profiling from happening. This article also states that “despite the social and economical progress of African-Americans over the past fifty years, Americans continue to live in a country where racial inequality is the norm.” (Walker, April J)

A lynching in the Heartland is a book around a historic lynching that happened in Marion Indiana in 1930. This book is a great example of racial profiling in America.

Lynchings were typically done because a black man was arrested for a crime against a white male or female.

This crime enraged the communities and caused lynch mobs to happen. These black men who were arrested

for these crimes were never given the chance to have a trial. The mobs decided they were guilty and they

punished them for it. The interesting thing about this is that if a black man was arrested for an crime committed

against another black man or women they were not lynched, they were allowed a trial.
