Congratulations to all New Zealand riders who attended the World Championships in South Af-rica. The results speak for themselves with so many great placings. With Dave Mohi winning the 30+ 20” class I wonder if we will see him more in the 30+ Supercruiser this year?

Round 7 & the Series final were held on Sunday 7th March at the Sunset Coast “Pre-Nats” race
meeting. We had 26 riders turn up this time including 3 “newbies” so we have had an impressive total of 51 different riders take part in this season’s series.
I would like to thank the Sunset Coast club for running this round and thanks to Kevin Lindsay & Heath Long Builders for stepping in to sponsor this round. This series is reliant on generous sponsors putting up the purse each round so I would like to thank again all the sponsors we have had this season. Of course the final wouldn’t have been possible without a generous series sponsor so a big thanks to Redline NZ for putting up the purse for this. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Norm McCann for all the hard work he has put in this season to help keep the series running. From delivering the points sheets after each moto to squeezing in last minute
entries so that we can have semi-finals, you have helped keep the series running smoothly and this has made my job a lot easier so thanks again.
As Queen B made the step up to the main this time this left the door open for someone else to win the consolation final so congratulations to Paul McGarva on taking this out at his first SuperCruiser round.
The day final was another hot lap as usual and congratulations to Mooney for finally taking out a final, hope it was worth the wait. So after 7 rounds we have had 3 different finals winners which is great to see.
Going in to the series final 1st, 2nd, 5th & 6th places were safe. So this left a battle for 3rd & 4th (3 point gap) and 7th & 8th (equal on points). This final capped off the series well with close racing right to
the finish line. As you will see below 3rd & 4th finished on equal points and had to be separated by countback with RMC’s win in the final the decider.
Congratulations to Paul Luttrell for taking out this year’s series. Moon finished only 14 points short of the maximum available for 28 moto’s and the final so this is a pretty awesome effort and shows that consistency is what it’s all about. Congratulations also to the other 2 podium finishers with Craig Hutchinson in 2nd & Richie McLachlan in 3rd.
Congratulations to the JAFA’s for taking out the teams trophy. The number of Orange jerseys in the final at each round showed that their pre season recruiting worked well and they were a force to be reckoned with.

BY RMC
RACEZONE
EXCLUSIVE
“Scott Hazlewood #1NZ snapping out with Greg Hill #2 in GHP colours”
SCOTT HAZLEWOODWhen I started riding at Mangere BMX track back in the day, I came across a rider who showed style and speed. His name is Scott Hazlewood and he is back with that great style and speed. Scott is a great guy and easy to talk with, so one night on Facebook we had a chat about the past and future. Interview by Richard Mclachlan.
RMC- So Scott When did you start rac-ing BMX back in the day???Scott - I started when I was about 8 or 9 long time agoRMC - What got you into BMX racing when you rst started? Why not Rugby or something like that??Scott - I was playing soccer but BMX took over. All my good friends rode BMXers. They where our only means of travel back thenRMC - What club did you start with and what bike did you have?Scott - North Shore was my rst club and i rode a MadisonRMC - A Madison, Iʼve never heard of that. Where was that made and what did it look like?Scott - I was playing soccer in Aussie and bought it over there and brought it back. Just looked like your average HMX but redRMC - What were some of the mo-ments you remember back then when you were young and into BMX?Scott - Some of the best times where travelling around NZ with the Pantha team then my olds taking me to every big BMX meeting. They are best and Iʼm so lucky to have them for my parentsRMC - Yeah parents are great. What was the deal with the Pantha Team back then? What free bees did you get
and did you help with any designs?Scott - Just got free 20ʼʼ and free cruiser, race gear, shirts and travel I think then Pantha brought in Cooks Brothers frames and forks so they gave me a 20ʼʼ to race. Really cool bikeRMC - Where were the good tracks in NZ and why?Scott - Rotorua was one of the best. Was central and had big meetings there. Mangere was a goodie too. Was my club in the endRMC - Why did you join Mangere? What happen there? ( I hope you didnʼt mind me asking)Scott - Mangere was way better. Just all the guys i hung out with where local Mangere BMX club members. Just think i out grew North Shore club for some stupid reasonRMC - When did you stop racing? And why did you give up BMX racing back then?Scott - I gave up when I was 18 I think. I started work then got a car then found sex, drugs and heavy metalRMC - What titles did you get back in the day?Scott - #1nz 3times. #3nz. #4nz. #18nz. Not sure on how many north island champ titles? And not too sure on the others.RMC - So whatʼs got you back into BMX? You turn up to the rst BMX nationals in 20 years after a crash and get 2nd!Scott - An old mate saw a photo of me on the Back in the day BMX site so i had a look and saw heaps of old friends on there that I new back in the day an d reconnected with them. Then i went to the North Island champs at Cambridge last year and really liked what i saw. Reignited the old BMX ame. Went out a bought a bike and started racing. I
really wish i hadnʼt stopped all those years ago. Trained heaps before the Puni NZ champs and snuck into #2nz.RMC - Well done. So what do you think has changed since back in the day and the modern day BMX racing?Scott - Jumps have got way bigger and better. Tracks are faster and shorter. They where drag strips back then. Small jumps and big straights.RMC - Whatʼs your plans ahead with BMX? Bring back Pantha maybe?Scott - Pantha is Back. They are spon-soring me a new Cruiser frame and 20ʼʼ frame. Cruiser frame is being made now and will be racing it soon. Canʼt wait New school PanthaRMC - What tracks do you like these days?Scott - Iʼve only raced at North Har-bour, Puni and Te Awamutu and a practise at Papakura and Whangarae. Am keen to race more this season. They were all kind of good tracks. No favourite at the moRMC- Quick questions - Fav Web site?Scott - Facebook, Trademe,RMC - TV ShowScott - Animal rescueRMC - MusicScott - Shape ShifterRMC - ColourScott - Most colours I likeRMC - Sex PositionScott - what? ummmm Rodeo styles lolRMC - ahahhahahScott - Belly laughs this endRMC - Well any last words for the interview... I know you need to get to sleep, since you will be up at 6am do-ing some sprints....Scott - BMX rules. Iʼm back from the old days and here to give it another go.
