Union Wins Silver at environmental awards.

This terms big campaign is to change UEA’s exam policy.

The Union believe students deserve feedback on all exams and in class tests. If

you agree and want to show your support all you have to do is write ‘I’m hungry for feedback’ on the front

of your exam paper. The Union of UEA Students is committed to equality of opportunity for all.

If the answer to these two questions is ‘yes’ then come and have your graduation photo taken in advance. Ede & Ravenscroft the official graduation photographer will be in the LCR on Tuesday 19th May - 10am - 4:30pm ready to take your graduation portrait.Hats, hoods and gowns will be available free of charge.

We strongly advise you to take advantage of this opportunity - it will mean one less thing to worry about on your special day when photographers will be extremely busy meaning a long wait for you and your guests.

On Tuesday 7th April 2009 the Union claimed silver in a prestigious environmental accreditation scheme to help student’s unions do

their bit for the environent.

The Sound Environmental Impact Awards which is now in its third year, saw 79 student’s unions from across the UK take part this year and UEA are amongst the best performing, gaining a Silver Standard in this year’s scheme. In recognition of our achievement we will receive a certificate and an exclusive Silver Standard award made out of recycled wellington boots.

Martin Jopp, Union Finance Officer said: “Our Union has consistently reflected the environmental concerns of our students by campaigning on environmental issues and tackling our own carbon emissions. This award goes to show that the pressure students have put on us to improve our performance is making a difference. The hard work of our staff in this area is paying off – in reduced energy bills, and now awards!”

The Union of UEA Students also received a Highly Commended (the only one of the evening) in the Office Depot Green Innovation Award for the ethical labelling scheme in the UFO. The judges commented that the scheme is “truly innovative and leads the way” by allowing students to assess the environmental and ethical impact of their purchases. The University of Sussex Students’ Union is currently replicating the scheme in their outlet, demonstrating the scheme’s appeal to other students’ unions.
