Body & Blood & First Holy Communion When someone put their “blood, sweat and tears” into a project, then we understand that they’ve used all of their resources. Likewise, when we celebrate this feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, we believe that Jesus Christ, the second person of the Holy Trinity, the Son of God and Savior of the World has placed all of himself, humanity and divinity, into this Blessed Sacrament. We call this “Real Presence” and it expresses the fullness of the amazing gift that the Lord shares with us. from our Director of Evangelization

& Adult Faith Formation

This weekend as we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, this priceless treasure and life of the Church takes on an even greater meaning in light

of what we have all experienced. In not being able to receive the Holy Eucharist for some time, and for some people still, the realization of how vital the Holy Eucharist is as the core identity of our Catholic faith cannot be underestimated. The Eucharist is not a mere symbol but is truly the presence of Jesus Christ Himself revealed to us through the Word and Wisdom of God. The Holy Eucharist is the eternal fountain of life and graces given to us by Christ Himself with the expressed desire to unite us with Him through the reception of his Body and Blood, transform our souls through the increasing of all of our Baptismal graces and to ensure we have continual strength for the journey to our eternal home.

The Catechism affirms this transforming union stating, “Holy Communion augments our union with Christ. The principal fruit of receiving the Eucharist in Holy Communion is an intimate union with Christ Jesus. Indeed, the Lord said: "He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me, and I in him." Life in Christ has its foundation in the Eucharistic banquet: "As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats me will live because of me. What material food produces in our bodily life, Holy Communion wonderfully achieves in our spiritual life. Communion with the flesh of the risen Christ, a flesh "given life and giving life through the Holy Spirit," preserves, increases, and renews the life of grace received at Baptism. This growth in Christian life needs the nourishment of Eucharistic Communion, the bread for our pilgrimage until the moment of death, when it will be given to us as viaticum.” CCC 1391-92

May our love, devotion and reverence towards the Holy Eucharist increase with a sincere heart and awareness of whom we are receiving. May we pray for an individual increase of graces to always honor Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, his presence in each other and for the universal Church to increase and be sustained in its belief of the true Eucharistic presence of Jesus.

He alone can save, transform and satisfy the heart and soul of each human being in this world.

“Just as by melting two candles together you get one piece of wax, so, I think, one who receives the Flesh and Blood of Jesus is fused together with him by this communion and the soul finds that he is in Christ and Christ is in him.” – St. Cyril of Alexandria

An Hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament

1. Recognize the Presence of God – Enter into His holy presence with awe and love.

2. Thanksgiving – Praise and thank the Lord. Worship Him.

3. Reparation – Repent of and express sorrow for your sins and those of the whole world.

4. Intercession – Ask for your own deeper conversion and personal needs, as well as for those around you and the whole world.

- Taken from One on One With Jesus, Aquinas Press, 2018

“I encourage Christians to regularly visit Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, for we are all called to abide in the presence of God. From the Eucharist comes strength to live the Christian life and zeal to share that life with others. The spiritual lives of our families are strengthened through one holy hour.” St. John Paul II

Blessings to each of you, Denise Gorski Director of Evangelization & Adult Faith Formation 734-283-1366 x112 ■ [email protected]

Office of

Christian Serviceand Outreach

I received an email from the American Red Cross that I would like to share with you. Thank you for your support! Without realizing it, this was a very timely Blood Drive.

What a great drive! This was the best result since 2018!

The preliminary results from Sunday, March 1, 2020 are as follows:

34 donors presented to give blood31 was our projected goal33 products of life-saving blood were collected

And the most important number of all-over 90 patient's lives will be touched by this drive!

On behalf of the patients and their families, thank you for all of your efforts. Please pass along our thanks to everyone that was involved.

Best regards,Beth Harris, Regional Donor RepresentativeAmerican Red Cross Blood Services

A Big Thank You!Thank you to the Riverview Knights of Columbus for donating to our parish pantry! Your donations came at a time of great need. The Pantry continued throughout the pandemic and donations like this helped make that

possible. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Thank you to our incredible parishioners who were so

generous during this time. Your monetary and food

donations to help feed those in need are very

appreciated! It truly warmed our hearts every time we walked in the pantry to see counters full of food. When times get tough you deliver. Thank you!

Highly esteemedAfter returning from a lengthy mission trip overseas, John Huffman and his fellow passengers were held up in customs for two hours. When he finally made it to the packed airport lobby, Huffman realized it might take a while to find his family. But suddenly his 3-year-old daughter ran toward him yelling, “Daddy! Daddy! That’s my daddy!” and launched into his arms.

“What a welcome,” he writes. “I have never felt so loved and acknowledged in my life.” Perhaps that’s how God feels when we call on his name in worship and prayer, acknowledging him as our heavenly Father — and honoring him above all else.newsletternewsletter.com

Religious Formation Dear Parents, I hope this letter finds you well. This has been a very unusual year to say the least. I have created tentative class schedules for the upcoming Religious Formation year. ALL FORMS CAN BE FOUND ON OUR PARISH WEBPAGE (www.stcyprian.com under the Religious Formation tab). You will notice I am switching up the Middle School schedule a bit this year to accommodate the social distancing requirements. My goal is to protect the students and their catechists. Because of this, I am unable to have all grade levels meet on the same evening. We are taking the health of everyone very seriously. Each classroom will be sanitized before and after every session.

As in the past, I want to give the Middle School a variety of choices to accommodate the hectic schedules of the students. Therefore, I am offering 2 morning sessions in the summer, a weeknight evening session and 2 Saturday sessions. Because grades 1-5 will still continue to meet on Monday evenings the Middle School will no longer be able to meet on that same night so they will meet on Tuesday evening instead.

The Family Program will continue to meet on the Second Tuesday of the Month. The First Reconciliation/Eucharist class will meet on the Third Tuesday of the Month. The Confirmation classes will take place on Sundays after the 9:00am Mass. All of these programs will begin in October. I will be sending a separate letter to those parents with information about the Sacrament programs and schedules.

Both Elementary and Middle School families are required to fill out the Family Registration form. Middle School students will also need to fill out the Middle School selection sheet. Please mark your calendars/cell phones with the class dates. Please return these forms as soon as possible with the deadline of July 31. I need to make sure I have enough supplies and books for all students.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 734-283-1366 x118 or sshurtz@stcyprian com

I am looking forward to a wonderful year ahead.

Enjoy your summer.
