NOTES: Plate specification to be BS4360 43A or better or equivalent. A bar is assumed to have an average 6m length. Some allowance for wastage of section is included. Tee bar is recommended for beams as it does not twist when bent. Angle can be used for framing and stiffening. The above materials list represents the majority of steel items for theR 383/393 but is not exhaustive. Plate sizes shown represent the most economic but can be adjusted to suit availability. A building frame size (75x75x6mm) is a minimum suggestion and is generally required in the forward third of boat length owing to the stresses involved in twisting the forward bottom panels and the resultant curvature induced. Building frames assume the R 383/393 hull to be built inverted and some jig base structure may be needed. Building upside down allows gravity to assist in placing and keeping plates in place and reduces overhead welding.

Tucker Designs supply’s a small book/manual on the general construction methods for hard chine or multi-chine steel boatbuilding as part of the plans set. This is not a full treatise on steel boatbuilding, but sets out the basic requirements and methods of construction to be adopted.

It is the Policy of this Company not to supply full-size frame patterns as they tend to be inaccurate, owing to changes induced by fluctuations of temperature and humidity. Lofting details are given in the basic manual.

Bare shells to complete vessels can be supplied from professional boatbuilders.

The complete computer generated cutting files are available. ASK FOR DETAILS.
