TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The barren deserts will rejoice and flower. Tired bodies will receive strength. Aching hearts will be made glad (Isaiah 35:1-6a, 10). Psalm — Lord, come and save us (Psalm 146). Second Reading — Be patient, for the coming of the Lord is as sure as the rain (James 5:7-10). The Prophet’s Profit Old Testament prophets were not very popular. Most were killed or exiled because they challenged people to follow God’s commands. John the Baptist suffered the same way. So what kept the prophets going?
First of all, the prophets had faith in God. They be-lieved that God spoke through them, that God would protect them and support them. Second, they had patience. They kept going when people rejected their preaching. Some prophets had to be patient with their own weaknesses. The third gift of the prophets was hope, hope that by keeping God’s commands, God’s people would be renewed, along with all of creation. Our first reading is an example of such hope, with its de-scriptions of deserts becoming gardens and the sick and disabled being healed and strengthened. So what do we learn from those prophets? First, we need to keep our faith in God strong. If you go to church once a week, the bare minimum, it would be like exercising only once a week and thinking that will keep you in shape. Second, we need pa-tience, and not just with our kids. We need to be patient with ourselves and with God. Some people stop going to church because they don’t see any spiritual growth in themselves. So be patient; don’t expect to become a saint right away. Finally, the reading from Isaiah gives us hope that God will open our eyes of faith, clear our ears to hear God’s word (Isaiah 35:5), and “meet him with joy and gladness” (Isaiah 35:10).

A PRAYER FOR ADVENT
Hope * Peace * Love * Joy .3
Look on us, Jesus, and let all the darkness of our souls disappear before the beams
of your brightness. Fill us with your holy love, and open to us
the treasures of your wisdom. You know all our desire, so bring to perfection
what you have started, and what the Holy Spirit has wakened us to ask in prayer.
We seek your face, turn your face to us and show us your glory.
Then our longing will be satisfied and our peace will be perfect. Amen
- St. Augustine
Aging Religious Need Your Help Senior Catholic Sisters, Brothers, and Religious Order Priests have offered their lives in service to others - educating the young, comforting the sick, seeking justice for the oppressed. Today, many are frail, elderly, and in need of assistance. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps to furnish medications, nursing care, and other necessities.
Please give generously to today’s second collection.
Congratulations!

THE LOOK OF LOVE What does love look like?
It has feet to go to the poor and needy. It has eyes to see misery and want.
It has ears to hear the sighs and sorrows of others.

After a series of wild adventures involving a seaport called Joppa, a huge boat and a terrible storm, Jonah finds himself in the belly of a giant fish! But this isn’t the end. It’s here that God teaches Jonah how to receive grace and extend mercy, even to his archenemy: Nineveh. Take your family deep into this Bible classic as it springs to life on stage in jaw-dropping scale by a world-class cast, spectacular special effects and live animals - on stage and in the aisles. This is not your average fish tale!
