WesCorp 924 Overland CourtEnergy Star LabelSan Dimas, California
WesCorp was in the process of pursuing LEED certification at their facility in San Dimas, California. As part of the process, a preliminary evaluation of the building’s ENERGY STAR score indicates that the facility may be eligible for the ENERGY STAR label. WesCorp has requested FEA’s assistance in pursuing certification. The building consists of a ± 98,000 square foot office building constructed in 1992. The building consists primarily of office space, but also has a 4,300 square foot data center. The data center consumes a significant portion of the building’s energy. A separate sub-meter which measures energy consumption of the data center has been in place since December 2008. WesCorp has implemented several sustainability initiatives, including adding solar panels, upgrading their electrical system, and installation of water meters. During the LEED certification effort currently underway, FEA assessed the building’s energy performance the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Portfolio Manager on-line software. The ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager benchmarks, or rates, the performance of a building on a scale of 1-100 in comparison to similar buildings nationwide. Factors such as annual weather variations, building size, function, location, and several operating characteristics are considered in the rating system. Buildings rating 75 or greater may qualify for the ENERGY STAR label. The calculations performed by FEA revealed the WesCorp facility has had an energy performance score of 76.
The validation process for a building to receive the ENERGY STAR label includes a review information which is based on the procedures outlined in EPA’s Professional Engineer’s Guide to the ENERGY STAR® Label for Buildings.
