QUALITY TEACHING

Our friendly and professional teachers use communicative methods in a tight-knit learning environment to help you learn quickly. The lessons are designed to focus on building your communication skills and confidence in using English.

Our qualified teachers bring the language to life through a variety of teaching methods. In addition to formal language skills training, lessons include project work, fun activities, and use of modern English language teaching resources. Lessons will also include preparation for excursions and activities, to help you continue your learning outside of the classroom.

Every St Giles Summer Course is packed with activities, excursions, visits to local attractions, sports and games, all carefully designed to be both educational and fun. The programme of activities and trips is chosen to be suitable for your age and to help you make new friends, practise your English and have fun from your very first day at the centre until you leave!

English PlusWe offer a wide range of English Plus sport and language options, which take place over 5 hours per week in the afternoons and enable you to tailor your Junior Summer Course to your specific interests and needs.

Students can personalise their course on arrival by adding one of our English Plus language options, available at most centres in the UK, USA and Canada at no extra cost.

English Plus sport options are available at select centres in the UK and USA for an additional fee per week*. These sport options have limited places and should be booked at the time of enrolment. All sporting equipment and safety materials are included.

English Plus Fencing - 5 hours of fencing lessons per week from qualified instructors

Specialised CoursesOur fantastic new courses for summer 2018 offer students the chance to study specialised skills for a variety of industries including technology and business. These courses aim to help develop skills for future careers and allow students to try something completely new.Each of these Specialised Courses is a three-week course, offering 20 lessons per week of focused training and development sessions. The specialised lessons are supplemented by 6 lessons per week (5 hours) of general English on 2 afternoons.

Specialised course students will mix in with general programme students for meals and some activities. There will be some alternative activities and excursions for students on a specialised course, which will relate to their studies. Please see relevant location pages for centre details and accommodation.

While studying leadership with us, you will develop your knowledge and understanding of:

Team-work and leading a team

Debating skills, influencing people and political awareness

Public speaking techniques and practice

Business language and strategic problem solving

Developing a business proposal and a sales strategy

A final business focused project will bring together all of the topics studied.

Students on this course will also have the opportunity to take part in talks by industry professionals and university representatives, as well as visit local businesses and world famous universities.

Improve your understanding of how websites work

Learn how to use HTML: the internet language

Create website pages

Add functionality and website features

Invent a game or app and adding development features to it

All of the topics are brought together in an overall project running throughout the course.

Students on this course will also have the opportunity to take part in talks by qualified coders and visit tech companies.

With nearly 12km of sandy beaches, Bournemouth offers students a true seaside experience. Situated by Bournemouth University’s Lansdowne campus, our centre is within easy walking distance of the beach and the town centre.

Bournemouth is a young and vibrant town with a relaxed atmosphere. Its location on the south coast makes it easy to explore much of the UK. Students will enjoy excursions to some famous cities, including London, Oxford and Bath.

Founded in 1596, Sidney Sussex is a college of the University of Cambridge and is located in the very heart of this traditional English city.

The campus offers ambitious learners the opportunity to experience living and learning at this highly ranked university.

With on-site accommodation of an excellent standard, a historic formal dining hall – considered one of the finest at the university – and sculptured lawns, this centre offers the classic Cambridge university experience.

The King’s School has a history dating back to 597AD, making it Britain’s oldest boarding school. The school is set in the beautiful grounds of Canterbury Cathedral and St Augustine’s Abbey – both World Heritage Sites – in the centre of Canterbury.

The St Giles Oxford junior centre is based in a modern campus, offering comfortable accommodation, leisure and teaching facilities.

Students can enjoy the lovely green spaces on campus during their down time.

Your Family CourseFor parents and children aged 7-15 This fantastic summer course offers families the chance to visit the UK or USA together and combine quality language learning with a fun activity programme in Brighton, London, New York or San Francisco.

QUALITY TEACHINGAll our teachers are qualified, native level English speakers, and many have years of teaching experience. During the course, lessons take place each morning in modern classrooms. Parents study English at one of our year-round adult schools – St Giles Brighton, St Giles London Central, St Giles New York City or St Giles San Francisco – whilst children have lessons in classrooms nearby. We offer:

Terms and Conditions of EnrolmentAll courses and accommodation are offered subject to availability.

St Giles reserves the right to cancel a course or make changes to course or accommodation arrangements without liability if obliged to by circumstances beyond its control or due to low demand, or where the student’s preferred accommodation is unavailable. In such circumstances, St Giles endeavours to offer the best alternative arrangements, dates or venues available, or a refund of fees paid for tuition and/or accommodation but does not accept liability for further compensation which exceeds the total fees paid.

St Giles reserves the right to refuse to accept a student due to overriding health and safety concerns, or in cases where we or the accommodation provider cannot make reasonable provisions to facilitate their learning needs or for their personal care.

In some cases we can accept students below the publicised age range when they are travelling with a group.

Course fees: No documentation will be issued until we receive the Course Deposit. Students will not be permitted to start the course unless full payment has been received.

Cancellations & Refunds: The parent/guardian/agent must inform the Centre in writing and return the student’s Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies. Cancellation fees are charged as follows, and any balance is refunded:

Courses and course content: Courses are offered subject to demand. We reserve the right to vary the organisation and content of courses, and the range of leisure activities, according to numbers of students or in response to circumstances beyond our control. Excursions do not take place on the day of the student’s arrival or departure.

Student conduct/standard of behaviour: We reserve the right to terminate without notice the course of any students who seriously or persistently misconduct themselves in their classes or accommodation, or who fail to meet the attendance requirements of the course. There is no refund of fees to students whose courses are terminated in this way.

Changes to enrolments: We reserve the right to charge an administration fee of £50 (UK), US$100 (USA) or Can$100 (Canada) each time course details are changed after confirmation documents have been issued and prior to 28 days before the scheduled arrival date. This charge will not apply to course extensions.

Amendments to courses within 28 days of the scheduled arrival date are treated as cancellations and subject to our published cancellations terms. Components of courses are not transferable outside of the enrolment dates or to other people.

Insurance: Deposits and fees are not transferable from person to person. Participants on St Giles courses and tours must ensure they have adequate travel and medical insurance. St Giles has arranged insurance for all junior residential students included in the package prices. See our website for further details of the policy. Family Course students can include this at an additional cost. Insurance fees (UK) are not refundable in the event of cancellation.

St Giles Schools of Languages Limited (UK), St Giles Colleges Incorporated (USA) and St Giles Colleges International Language Centres Limited (Canada) accept no liability for the loss of, or damage to, any person’s property while on the premises of the school, or while engaged in leisure activities outside the campus.

Responsibilities of the parent or guardian: By signing the application form, the parent or guardian:

1. grants the student permission to participate in the full programme of class and leisure activities;

2. authorises St Giles Schools of Languages Limited (UK)/St Giles Colleges Incorporated (USA)/St Giles Colleges International Language Centres Limited (Canada) to take appropriate action in the case of any medical or other emergency, and accepts responsibility for any resultant costs;

3. accepts responsibility for any wilful damage caused by the student and any resultant cost for repair or replacement.

Juniors extra-cost and cost-free options: We reserve the right to cancel or to offer substitute activities on the optional activities programmes in the event of fewer than 8 students opting for any specific activity.

Juniors deposits on arrival: Please note that a refundable deposit of £80 (UK), US$200 (USA) and Can$200 (Canada) is payable in cash on arrival, and will be collected from all students on the day of arrival. This deposit is to cover breakages and to cover the insurance excess payable for any medical expenses in the event that the student is ill and requires treatment.

The breakages deposit will be returned to students with a deduction made for loss of keys and/or personal damage to any property of the school, or for any liability incurred by the school resulting from the individual student named on our enrolment form, or which is non-attributable to any individual student, but which can be reasonably held to be caused by students of the school (in the sole opinion of St Giles Schools of Languages Limited (UK)/St Giles Colleges Incorporated (USA)/St Giles International Language Centres Limited (Canada)).

Promotional Photographs and Videos: St Giles or its representatives may take photographs and videos of classes or other school activities during your time with us, which may be used for promotional purposes. If you do not wish to appear in any promotional materials, please advise us at the time of booking.

The UK centres are operated by St Giles Schools of Languages Limited (UK), registered in the UK. The US centres are operated by St Giles Colleges Incorporated (USA), registered in the USA. The Canadian centres are operated by St Giles International Language Centres Limited (Canada), registered in Canada.
