These are the final hours for Carnival 2019. There are still stacks of prizes, plenty of good food, lots to drink, and much fun to be had. Help us to make Carnival Number Eighty-Seven the best ever! The Grand Raffle is the heart of the Carnival’s profit, so
see if you can sell a sheet or two more of the Grand Raffle tickets. We still have one more $500 Sellers’ Appreciation Raffle. The Grand Drawing will take place this Sunday evening at about 11:00pm in the Corrigan Gym. Carnival 2019 profits will pay for the re-staining and re-varnishing of our church pews; the work was completed last week. We will also use Carnival proceeds for the upholstering of half the seats in church (the others will remain without upholstery—as parishioners suggested.) Our church tabernacle is currently being cleaned, serviced, and restored by a company in Chicago. The tabernacle now in our church is a “loaner” from the Henninger’s Religious Goods people. It is very beautiful and several parishioners have asked about keeping it in our church. However, the original tabernacle, now away being worked on, was designed by the Rambusch Company of New York; that was the artistic consultant firm when our church was built in the mid-1950’s. Our tabernacle was designed specifically for our church and it is one-of-a-kind; therefore, it should stay. We will see how it looks when it comes back from its “makeover.” St Charles Ladies Guild gave a substantial gift to the parish in June. We will use some of that gift to pay for the Tabernacle Restoration. Our 2019 Eighth Grade Class also gave the parish a monetary gift; we will now use that gift to purchase a new holy water bucket in the class’s name. The old one seems to have “disappeared” a few weeks ago. We have also installed handrails, right and left, as you enter the sanctuary. This addition was requested by some lectors and Eucharistic ministers. I also make use of them at weekday Mass. The Carnival is summertime’s midway point. So it’s not too soon to think about the upcoming parish year. Do you know anyone who would like to join the Catholic Church? Those unbaptized, or those baptized in another Chris-tian faith, or those baptized Catholic but who have not received First Eucharist or First Reconciliation, are invited to consider joining this year’s Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). St Charles RCIA will meet on Monday evenings, beginning in mid-September, and will conclude on Holy Saturday in Spring 2020. Father Lou Thomas and Deacon Dan Galla coordinate a team approach in sharing the truths of our Faith from September through April. No commitment is expected up front, just come and see. Contact our Parish Office at 440-884-3030 and leave your name and number; specific information about RCIA 2019-2020 will be sent your way. There are always lots of good things happening around St Charles. One of my favorites is Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the Sunday 10:00am Masses, September through May. Children up to First Communion age go to a classroom setting after the Opening Prayer of Mass with a trained teacher. The kids receive a Scripture lesson appropriate to their age, and then return to Mass at Offertory time. We are looking for a few additional teachers. Please check the CLW article in this bulletin if you would like to help with this great program. The kids love it, so do the parents, and so do I!

The time commitment is minimal, and the rewards are great. Teaching
aides are given for each week. Teachers are usually scheduled once a month. CLW teachers do need to be VIRTUS trained.
