Merici Chapel… Have you ever stopped to figure

out how many hours a week you spend on non-

essential things — watching TV, shopping for

unnecessary things, surfing the internet, playing

video games, etc? Why not take one of those hours

& spend it in Merici Chapel? Enrich your spiritual

life — say a Rosary during the month of October.

Pray for peace.

St. Charles Borromeo Church October 7, 2018

Seminarian Matthew Cortnick spent his internship

year at St Charles in 2015-2016. Matt, a native of

St John Vianney Parish in Mentor, was ordained to the

priesthood in May of 2018. He has been assigned to

St Ann Church at Communion of Saints Parish in

Cleveland Heights. I have asked Father Matt to join us next

Sunday, October 14, as celebrant and homilist at the 12:00Noon

Mass. Matt was always good-humored, kind, and a great

speaker. We will look forward to welcoming him back to

St Charles.

Every year, for two weekends in October, the Bishop’s Office

asks all parishes in the Diocese to count the number of people

who attend Mass. This is called “the October Count.” The

figures are used to assess parish vitality, check demographic

trends, and help with the assignment of clergy. So on October 6-7

and again on October 13-14, our ushers are asked to take that

count—at homily time—and then record the total on the Mass

Attendance Form in the priests’ sacristy. Thanks for your

patience!

Every other year, the Bishop asks to meet with all the active

priests of the Diocese during a four-day convocation. This was

last done in October 2016. At that time, Bishop Lennon’s health

had begun to fail and it was a challenging time for us to meet.

It is Convocation Time for 2018—the first such gathering with

Bishop Perez. Given the current headlines, this will also be a

challenging time to meet!

In order for us to attend this week, we must adjust our Mass

schedule at St Charles. Fr Lou, Fr Chris, and I will be away from

noon on Tuesday October 9 until mid-afternoon on Friday

October 12. For your service here at St Charles, Father Larry

Bayer, retired pastor of St Bridget of Kildare Parish, will offer an

8:30am Mass on Tuesday the 9th and Thursday the 11th. Our good

friend, Father Anselm, will offer a 7:00pm Mass on Tuesday the

9th, Wednesday the 10th, and Thursday, the 11th. I was not able to

find a celebrant for the 7:00am Masses on Wednesday the 10th,

Thursday the 11th, and Friday the 12th nor for Friday the 12th at

8:30am. So then, in short, no 7:00am Mass on Wednesday,

Thursday, and Friday this week and no 8:30am Mass on Friday.

Don’t forget our Canned Food Drive during the month of

October. Leave your gifts in the church lobbies when you come to

Mass, or at any time during the week. Check the article in this

bulletin for the items we need to feed hungry families.

St Charles Dismas Ministry, that cares for the confined in

jails and prisons, will conduct a Men’s Clothing Drive the

weekend of October 20-21. Check your closets for gently-worn

business, dress, or casual men’s shirts, slacks, blazers, business

suits, business outerwear and belts—suitable for job interviews.

Drop off Saturday October 20, 12Noon to 5:30pm or Sunday

October 21 8:00am to 2:00pm in the Old Credit Union/

Maintenance Room next to the Parish Hall.

St Charles is blessed to have Merici Chapel in the Parish

Activities Center. The Blessed Sacrament is exposed there 24/7

for personal prayer and adoration. Stop by the Parish Office for

the door opening code.

Parish Council members are reminded of our meeting this

Thursday, October 11 at 7:45pm, JPII Room of the PAC.

And parishioners are reminded to stop in the Lower Parish

Hall after the 8:00 and 10:00am Masses for Donut Sunday,

October 7. Hey, leave one for me!

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

Saturday, October 20 & Sunday, October 21

The Anointing of the Sick will be administered

at all of the Masses on the weekend of

October 20/22. No registration is needed.

Offertory Collection $19,902.61

ACH / Online / Credit Card 10,650.17

Total $30,552.78
