PLUNGER PUMPS.

Plunger pumps are reciprocating type positive displacement pumps.

Fluid flows through the suction valve and into the chamber as the plunger recedes. At the end of thestroke, the chamber is at its maximum size.

The suction valve closes, the plunger moves forward into the chamber, forcing the fluid out the discharge valve. The flow from each chamber is a pulse flow.

A plunger pump where the high-pressure seal is stationary and a smooth cylindrical plunger slides through the seal.

This type of pump is often used to transfer municipal and industrial sewage.

The volume of fluid discharged is equal to the area of plunger ,multiplied by its stroke length. the number of the plunger and the speed of the drive.

PROBLEMS.

In current model, the operating gun is having pulsation. Because the pulsation dampener is not effective.

So, It is a problem to operator to handle the gun.

The plunger material having more problems due to low hardness (38 HRC).

So, we planned to improve the hardness property of plunger material.

OBJECTIVES.

By Redesign the pulsation dampener to reduce the pulsation.

By Changing the plunger material according to hardness property.

PULSATION DAMPENER Pulsation dampeners is a temporary storage

and pulsation control device.

Pulsation dampeners are used to reduce suction and discharge pressure pulsations.

At the forward stroke water will fill the dampener.

At the return stroke water is discharged.

So, the flow is balanced to equal discharge.

In the plunger pump it is located at the discharge potion.

REDESIGN OF PULSATION DAMPENER. In the current pulsation dampener is

operated in the atmospheric pressure. So, the discharge gun is having some pulsations.

In new design, the pulsation dampener is divided into two parts ,the diaphragm rubber is fixed between the two parts .

Types of pulsation dampener. Air loaded at 18 bar with diaphragm .

Spring loaded at 18 bar with diaphragm.

ALTERNATIVE MATERIAL FOR PLUNGER.

The company is now using ss410 as plunger material.

It have more drawback in hardness, corrosion ,wear and tear.

hardness of ss410 is 38 HRC

So, we planned to change the material with higher hardness than present material .
