St. John Celebrates 100 Years St. John School opened in 1917. At the time, the school was filled with eighty-three students, two teachers and was previously known as the West Hillhurst School. St. John School was also one of the original eight schools in the Calgary Catholic School District.

This special milestone was recognized with a celebration attended by past and current staff. Father Eric presided over the liturgy and reminisced about his experiences as a young person living in the community. Trustee, Marge Belcourt then delivered greetings on behalf of the Board and shared some of the school's history. Finally, Chief Superintendent, Gary Strother reminded everyone what a special occasion it is to be part of something that is 100 years old.
