Embark on the Journey of a Lifetime

Enjoying a shore landing on Paradise Bay Cover: A Corinthian Zodiac cruises pass dramatic ice formations

ADDITIoNAl DEpARTuRE wITh AIR CREDIT we are offering an additional voyage to Antarctica, departing December 17, 2013, and returning December 30, 2013. on this departure, which will not be accompanied by Dr. Gary langham but by other expert scientists, we are pleased to extend an airfare credit of $1,200.

We are extremely privileged to invite you on a once-in-a-lifetime voyage to Antarctica with esteemed National Audubon Society Chief Scientist Dr. Gary Langham. Dr. Langham is one of the world’s foremost experts on birds, and he has traveled extensively throughout the Western Hemisphere both as a researcher and tour leader. We invite you to join us this winter—high summer in the Southern hemisphere—on an incredible journey to what is known as the “White Continent,” truly Earth’s last frontier.

Your home for this voyage is the 100-guest, all-suite Corinthian, one of the most luxurious small ships cruising the Antarctic waters. Its ideal size and maneuverability allow for in-depth discovery, while the fleet of Zodiac landing craft provides for up-close viewing and shore expeditions. Dr. Langham will be joined by resident expedition leaders and naturalists, some of the most experienced and knowledgeable experts on Antarctica’s terrain, bird life, sea life, geology, and glaciology. This team will enlighten you throughout your voyage via lectures, presentations, and on-site nature observation.

For five full days, we will explore the Antarctic Peninsula and its surrounding islands, where excursions and landings may include visits to 10,000-strong penguin rookeries, old whaling stations, operational research stations, and Elephant seal colonies.

Few people will ever experience the otherworldly grandeur of Antarctica, but even fewer will have the great fortune to explore this land of dazzling snowfields, crystalline glaciers, and untamed frozen wilderness aboard Corinthian with Audubon’s own Dr. Langham.

An Unforgettable Voyage Led By Seasoned Expedition Leaders & Naturalists

John Frick returns for his eighth season leading expedition travel to Antarctica. John’s wanderlust surfaced during his undergraduate studies and has since led him to live in Alaska, to work in Nepal as a Peace Corps Volunteer, and to lead hundreds of programs over the last 15 years for Travel Dynamics International. He again looks forward to sharing with Corinthian guests his enthusiasm for travel and for the wonders of the natural world, in particular for the White Continent.

All expedition staff subject to change.

As Chief Scientist for the National Audubon Society, Dr. Gary Langham is instrumental in shaping and implementing Audubon’s conservation strategy. He leads efforts to promote and expand citizen science programs, including Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count, to broaden the Important Bird Areas initiative, and to engage partners, donors, and other stakeholders in Audubon’s science work. Gary previously served as the lead scientist for Audubon California. He received his Doctorate in

Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Cornell University; and was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Instructor at the University of California, Berkeley. Gary is an expert on the world’s birds and has traveled extensively throughout the Western Hemisphere and Australia. For more than twenty years, he worked as a tour leader for Victor Emanuel Nature Tours, primarily in Manitoba, California, Costa Rica, and Venezuela. Most recently, he flew in a motorized glider alongside White Storks during spring migration in the Hula Valley, Israel.

Professor Paul Andrew Mayewski is Director of the Climate Change Institute at the University of Maine. He is an internationally acclaimed scientist and explorer, leader of more than 45 expeditions to some of the remotest reaches of the planet. His experience in Antarctica is varied and expansive, including living there for more than two and a half years (total) in a Scott tent; making more than 100 first ascents in the Transantarctic Mountains; and traversing more unexplored terrain in Antarctica by foot, ski, snowmobile and track vehicle than any other person.

Born and raised in England, Jonathan Green completed a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Geology and Geography. John is also an avid diver and accomplished photographer, and his photography has been published in The Wildlife Photographer of the Year, Time, Geo, BBC Wildlife, and the Royal Geographical magazines. He continues to lead adventure trips, diving excursions, and photo workshops throughout Latin America and the Antarctic.

In 2003-2004, Trevor Potts successfully re-created Ernest Shackleton’s 1916 epic mission from Elephant Island to South Georgia. And in 2001 he completed Shackleton’s mountain crossing from King Haakon Bay to Stromness. On this voyage, he will share his experiences and insights about this legendary odyssey, about Shackleton himself, and about other expeditions in the White Continent. Trevor has nine seasons of experience working on Antarctic expedition ships.
