Many of the inputs are made from materials that would otherwise be thrown away, such as egg shells, animal bones, and fish waste. These are mixed with ingredients that can easily be found in any kitchen such as brown sugar, vinegar and rice. Benefits of using the Natural Farming methods include as much as 60% lower costs to the farmer, more desirable crops, higher yield, better quality, zero waste emission, and stronger plants. Recycle Service Worker This course will provide the basic skills and knowledge for both incumbent workers and those interested in getting into the recycle industry. Areas that will be covered in this course include information on the recycling program here in Hawaii, customer service training, OSHA 10 Hour Certification, basic math and cashiering, and forklift safety training. HealthTai Chi (Yang Style)Instructor: StaffLearn this venerable Chinese martial arts to improve your mental and physical health. Writing RetreatInstructor: Lillian CunninghamOur Writing Retreat is not exactly a class but is an opportunity to meet and write in company with other beginning and experienced writers. Here we tap into our mutual creative energy. After introductions, we collect ideas in response to a starter prompt, then each person begins to draft a story, poem, memoir, argument or whatever. In small groups we read these diverse pieces and give each other non-critical reader responses.

Anyone over 16 is welcome to attend. Bring writing materials, a sack lunch, and perhaps a mug for coffee or tea. A food contribution for the morning snack table is welcome, but it is not necessary.

Classes meet on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Hale ‘Akoakoa 107/109. Course fee is $8 for confirmed paid registrations; call early to register with your credit card information. Course fee for walk-ins on day of course is $10 if space is available.

Tai Chi Exercises with Marie RileyWe will practice basic movements of Tai Chi in patterns, which can be repeated and combined into sequences. These modules are easily memorized. They can be recalled for a few moments of relaxation or incorporated into an exercise program. Tai Chi helps build energy (ki, chi). The slow motion allows renewed energy and tension release. The gentle movements promote flexibility, natural breathing, and peace of mind. These enjoyable exercises are appropriate for beginners and advanced students of Tai Chi.

Shiatsu and Acupressure for Self-Help with Marie RileyWe will apply gentle pressure on traditional acu-points for our own relaxation, re-balancing of ki, and revitatlization. The shiatsu, Jin shin, and acupressure points can be gently pressed while sitting or reclining. These gentle systems are complementary and with most other health programs and are known for promoting general well-being. The instructor is Marie Riley, M.A., L.M.T, the Director of the Acupressure Center of Hawaii.

Self-Shiatsu for the Arms, Wrists, and Hands (1 of 4)Shoulder and neck tension can be reduced by gently pressing shiatsu points along arm muscles. Points on the arms, wrists, and hands also relate to motion sickness, nervous tension, digestion, and circulation. Self-Shiatsu for the Legs, Ankles, and Feet (2 of 4)We will apply gentle pressure on acupressure points which influence leg muscles and ki circulating from the head, shoulders, and back. We will locate balancing “source points” for the kidneys, liver, and gall bladder and meridians called stomach, spleen - pancreas, and bladder.
