A Letter from the CEO 2015—The Year of the Champion. To kick off another successful year at AMD, I’d like to share my vision of where I think we’re headed. Each New Year brings new challenges and goals, and 2015 is no exception. To tackle these challenges head on, we’ve formed a game plan, and rea-ligned every department to reflect this year’s key sales goals. I believe in this game plan and everyone in it. Together, I think we’ll get where we want to be because I think champi-ons know the game plan. Part of the plan is an improved internal communication. We want to show visibility and transparency of our company goals and how to achieve them. Each person plays his or her own part, and each part will influence AMD’s success. We’ll be high-lighting individual success through our new incentive program that will motivate AMD employees not only to reach their goals, but to exceed them.

We’re also using 2015 to build the AMD brand on Twitter, Facebook, and Linkedin. With relevant and timely content, we’ll make sure AMD becomes synonymous with innovation. Lastly, I wanted to highlight how we continue to provide innovative solutions, with AMD’s representation at the Defense Logistics Con-ference and the McDermott Will & Emery’s 13th annual ASC Sympo-sium. So far 2015 has started out right, and I know Team AMD will keep up the good work. We can use the same words that inspire our busi-ness to inspire our goals: Innovation makes our world move forward. It transforms insight into action and redefines possibilities. In its purest form, it is insight brought to life. We are AMD The Innovation experts. Warm regards,

AMD HAS A NEED FOR SPEED.
Here we flow. Let’s be honest, the healthcare industry hasn't always ‘flowed,’ but with new advances in technology, the sky’s the limit. And with an ever-increasing patient base of baby boomers and Obamacare-ers, there’s a massive population that’s creating even more need for
streamlining the way healthcare does business. So how can we ensure this influx of patients gets the same quality care? Tech-nology. Companies like Midmark Corporation and Welch Allyn are all over this. Their constant re-lease of new devices proves that they’re in the business of working smart-er, not harder.
Smart is the new black. A great example is how the old EKG results had to be printed and manually filed into patients’ charts. The only way to share these results was to fax or mail a copy—not a good flow to say the least. Today, new devices sync with physicians tablets or PCs, and are immediately available to share across the digital universe. Just. Like. That. And this is just one example of how healthcare is changing its slow, outdated ways. Anyone in this industry knows that time is a precious commodity, and that’s exactly what technology affords us.
Yesterday is so yesterday. As the industry leader at integrating new technology into healthcare facilities, AMD prides itself on speed. Yes, technology saves time, but it’s our commitment to understanding technology that accelerates our business and puts us at the forefront of healthcare technology.

Addressing the growing concern with stethoscopes…..
Vectors for transference of microorganisms
The stethoscope was invented in 1816 by a French physician as a re-sult of his reluctance to place his ear to the chest of his young female patient during an exam. This was the method of auscultation used by physicians at that time. Over the next 200 years, the stethoscope has become an extension of the HCP and is the foundation for medical care worldwide. Doctors, nurses and all healthcare professionals (HCPs) have effectively and efficiently imbedded the use of the stethoscope into their day to day workflow of diagnosing and treating patients. Clearly the frequency of use has significantly changed since 1816, but the medical profes-sion adjusted to our improved knowledge of microorganisms and the transmission potential between patients? The science is clear. The facts are clear. Yet, we see the stethoscope continue to be the poten-tial source of transmission of various microorganisms from patient to patient.
The Facts: Contamination After a Single Physical Exam Mayo Clinic Proceedings, Volume 89, Issue 3. March 2014. Pages 291-299
Think of the stethoscopes as an extension of the doctor’s hands, which are the main source of pa-tient-to-patient bacterial transmis-sion, says Didier Pittet, the director of the Infection Control Program at the University of Geneva Hospital in Switzerland and lead author for a new study published by Mayo Clinic Proceedings. “We have no guide-lines to clean our stethoscopes, which has many bacteria on the diaphragm of the stethoscope as we have on our fingertips,” Pittet tells.
C-Diff and MRSA found on stethoscopes Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol. 2013 Jan; 33(1): 96-8
The study suggests that stethoscopes can carry dangerous bacteria including Clostridium difficile or C.diff and methicillin-resistant Staph-ylococcus aureus (MRSA). Researchers at the Cleveland VA demon-strated that both kinds of germs are readily transferred to and from stethoscopes. The investigators concluded that, “Our findings suggest that stethoscopes may be an underappreciated vector for the trans-mission of pathogens.”
Why cleaning with an alcohol swab is NOT the solution?
Many studies over the years suggest actual cleaning of stetho-scopes between patients with alcohol swabs rarely occurs
Some instructions suggest cleaning for 2 minutes (keeping wet), then 60 seconds of dry time for each cleaning of surface with alcohol
With C.diff, five (5) minutes of “wet” contact time with a 1:10 chlorine bleach product or a 1:10 solution of household chlorine bleach is needed to disinfect (Infect Control Hosp Epidemiol, 2008 OCT; 29 Suppl 1 () :S81-92)
THE SOLUTION Healthcare professionals, Infection Control teams, Purchasing, and Patients all embrace the use of products which:
Minimize the chance for transference of microorganisms
Fit into the workflow of professionals
Provide simplistic use and disposal
