Week 9 Term 3, 10th September 2014 Dear Parents, Sue Mackay Principal Week 9 Term 4, 7th December 2016 Dear Parents, As the school approaches the end of the academic year, school staff will be undertaking the difficult process around class placements for the coming year. It is a process which takes considered thought and discussion as we work to make the best decisions for each child in each of the school grades. The school has a published enrolment and class placement policy which assists in decision making. A part of this policy outlines the understandings around placement in composite classes. The school makes every effort to avoid students being in composite classes for two consecutive school years due to the fact that most parents do not prefer this type of class organisation. In reality, the range of student needs and abilities in a straight class can actually be equally as diverse as in the mixed grade class. Unless there is a specific placement reason, the school also avoids students being with the same teacher for two years running. These two aspects combined with teachers moving grades can certainly add to the complexity of the puzzle. Eight school days until the end of the 2016 school year! That means the Christmas shopping really does need to start in earnest! Enjoy your week, Sue Mackay Principal Christmas Raffle Tickets in the Christmas raffle are on sale each day at school. Tickets are $1 each or 3 for $2. Senior students will be selling tickets each day outside the hall. The raffle will be drawn on Thursday 15th December. INDUSTRIAL ACTION On Thursday 8th December, teachers across NSW will be involved in industrial action. There will be minimal supervision for students at school until the resumption of normal classes at 10.30am. The canteen will operate as usual.

Solitary Island Marine Park Excursion

Recently Stage 2 went on an excursion to the

Solitary Island Marine Park. This was a

culminating excursion for their geography unit

‘The Earth’s Environment’. Students visited the

Marine Science Centre and Botanical

Gardens. On the board walk of the botanical

Gardens students investigated the bird hide and

some even managed to spot some birds. Being

able to reflect on what is taught in the

classroom in the real world is such an

invaluable opportunity which was not lost on the

students.

Hire a Helper Congratulations Year 6 on such an inventive

and enjoyable fundraiser. Students, classes

and teachers who participated in the Hire a

Helper day were not disappointed. In wandering

around the school I noticed the helpers were

kept busy all day. I witnessed students imparting

knowledge and skills of how to play games to

younger students, as well as the cleaning of

tote trays and classrooms. I do believe some

students were exhausted but thrilled by all the

many ways they got to help around the school.

What a fabulous effort by Year 6, they raised

$684.20! This definitely was one of those win

win activities.
