Wildflower Quilt Guild Newsletter
A Note From the WQG Pres ident
Just came upon this thought: ‘Behind every quilter, there
is a big pile of fabric’.
Does that apply to you? I think I can say it might apply to
me. I remember when I was going through my mom’s
stuff, and all her quilting fabrics. What was I going to do
with all that fabric? That was before I was a member of
the guild. So I found Project Linus, and donated all that
fabric to them. Remember meeting the woman at a stor-
age unit, just filled with yards and yards of fabric. I felt
good about leaving all that with her, because they would
be worked into quilts for children, whom my mother dear-
ly loved. So patient was she, especially with her grand-
children. I am sure she was smiling that I found a good
home for all her quilting stuff.
I thoroughly enjoyed our program at this month’s guild
meeting. Such beautiful pieces! We do have such talent-
ed members, and thankfully they share what they know
with others.
JUNE WQG Program & workshop
Please remember the quilt show next year. Now is not too
late to begin planning that quilt or perhaps finish one you
have started, to enter the show. We need your quilts!
Seems the weather is going to continue to get warmer;
after all this is Texas. A friend in Wisconsin has been bat-
tling the fluctuating temps, with 40s at night and up to 80s
and 90s during the day. Perfect time to work on those
quilts!
Did you ever consider yourself, as a quilter, being an ath-
lete? Think about it: batting, running, stitching, pumping
the iron, hunting for fabric. I think I just lost 2 pounds
thinking about it!
Happy quilting,
Mary Ann
I hope everyone enjoyed our May program! Lisa and
Michelle did a great job of giving us an overview of
their hand applique techniques. The truck show was out-
standing! There was an interesting mix of applique quilts,
and as Lisa and Michelle pointed out, they showed ap-
plique can be more than just flowers! The workshop was
a success! I hope those that took the workshop will bring
their blocks for show and tell in June!
June Program will be our Donation Quilt Challenge. I'm
looking forward to seeing the donation quilts. No work-
shop.
July Program is Quilts of Valor with Stacy Clady! The
workshop will be QOV blocks! The blocks are "Split Block
Stars" and those blocks will be given to Stacy to be put
into QOV quilts! Workshop is Wednesday, July 18. Cost
is $10 and must be paid at time of signup!
August Program is "Machine Embroidery Marries Quilts"
with Brenda Jeschke. Brenda is an award winning quilter,
and teaches many workshops
and retreats.
Her workshop is "Machine Quilt-
ing Using An Embroidery Ma-
chine" The workshop is $40 and
must be paid at signup! The sup-
ply list will be available at the
signup table!

we still need to fill up the kitchen with food those other three months.

Three Quilting Tips
PREWASHING FABRIC
When prewashing fabrics,
completely unfold the fab-
ric before putting it into the
washing machine. This will
help prevent fading on the
fold line and help eliminate
the strong, center fold
crease.
CLEAN YOUR CUTTING MAT
Roll a lint roller over the surface of your cut-
ting mat for a quick clean up.
TEMPLATES
To create corner holes in plastic templates
that include the seam allowance, heat the end
of an ice pick, a pin, or a tapestry needle held
in a piece of
cork in the
flame of a
candle.
Push the hot
point
through the
plastic tem-
plate to
make a hole
indicating
the corner matching points of the seam lines.

JUNE Block of the Month ~ SNAIL ’S TRAIL
Future WQG Programs & Workshops
Cut 24 – 6” squares of 100% cotton fabric (selvages
removed). Stack Charm Squares by offsetting each layer
by ¼ turn – (this makes it easier for us to distribute the
squares). Put the Charm Squares in a Ziploc bag with
your name it, drop the bag off at the Charm Square table
before the start of the guild meeting and remember to
pick your bag up at the end of the guild meeting. You will
have a wonderful variety of 6” fabric squares to work
with.
