News From the Committees

CGQL and Social Media

As methods of communication are

constantly changed and refined so

the Club tries to keep up with these,

to give members as much

opportunity as possible to keep

abreast of club events. The club has

a Twitter account (@cgql) which we

use to post brief new items as well

as advertise forthcoming events.

The Twitter feed can be seen under

“News in Brief” once logged on to

the club website.

The car park barriers have now been

restored at the entrance to the

member’s car park. To gain access

members can re-use their ‘old’

magnetic key fobs or remote

controls. In order to give everyone

time to find these, the barriers will

only be brought into use from 15th

November.

A new schedule for opening and

closing the clubhouse has been

agreed. Access to changing rooms,

buggy park and the bag store is from

07h00 everyday until 19h30 (winter)

and 21h30 (summer). Access to the

library and internet stations (as well

as the upstairs TV lounge, is from

09h00 to 19h00 on weekdays and

11h00 to 19h00 on weekends.

In order to bring the upstairs lounge

into greater use, the Captain’s Bar will,

in future, be run by the franchisee. All

drinks consumed immediately after

competitions will be paid for by the

Club from the competition entry fee.

There will be certain restrictions on use

(such as wine will only be available by

the glass) but on the whole this will

widen the choice as well as improve

the overall service. Weekly

competition entry fees will remain at

€5 until the end of the year.

The move into the new clubhouse

has resulted in some new telephone

numbers. The old number (289

directed. In the meantime, if

members cannot get through on

that number please use 289

Now that we have a suitable display window, a wider range of club related items,

including some new ‘breathable shirts’ will be made available shortly.

Charity Donations

The Club has recently distributed

money raised from past events to

Notes From the Greenkeeper

You will no doubt have noticed in recent weeks that the

Greenkeeping team have been re-turfing areas surrounding

some of the greens of Quinta North. I thought it might be

appropriate at this juncture to provide a brief explanation on the

necessity of this work and why it has to happen at this time.

Essentially it stems from a decision taken by Quinta do Lago

to be more pro-active in a bid to control the spread of

“Kikuyu” and the risk of it encroaching onto the greens. When

treating for this unwelcome grass, it requires several

applications of herbicide as a precursor to the re-sodding

process. Hence the brief period where you may have noted Over the past two months we have built two turf grass
