Dresden Plate Background: 5-211/2" x width of fabric strips From the strips, cut 9-211/2" squares

Sashing (cream): 16-11/2" x width of fabric strips From the strips, cut 32-11/2" x 22" strips

Sashing and Binding (red): 28-11/2" x width of fabric strips From the strips, cut 55-11/2" x 22" strips 8-21/2" x width of fabrics strips Sew the strips end to end to make the bindng.

1 Hexagon Center Make 171 assorted cream hexagons following the directions in the 1" hexagon papers package. Join 19 hexagons using an overcast stitch. Remove the paper. Make 9.

(A) Fold a 61/2" x width of fabric strip in half. Align the widest part (or top) of the dresden ruler with the edge of the strip, cut. Rotate the ruler, cut. Cut a total of 180 blades from the 16-61/2" x width of fabric strips.

(B) Fold a blade in half, right sides together as shown. Sew across the top. Trim the corner. Press open. Repeat with the 180 blades. Join 20 blades. Make 9 Dresden Plates.

(C) Appliqué the Dresden Plate to a 211/2" background square. Appliqué the hexagon center to the block. Make 9.

6 Arrange and sew 3 sashing combinations and 1 Nine-Patch in a row as shown. Press away from the Nine-Patches. Make 4 rows. Arrange and sew 4 sashings and 3 Dresden Plate blocks in a row as shown. Press away from the Dresden Plate blocks. Make 3 rows. Arrange and sew the rows together as shown.

4 Sashing Join 1-11/2" x 22" cream and 2-11/2" x 22" red sashing strips together as shown. Press toward the red sashing. Make 24. Trim the sashing to 31/2" x 211/2".

5 Join 1 nine-patch and 1 sashing set. Make 12.

(A) Join 1-11/2" x 22" red and 2-11/2" x 22" cream strips together as shown. Press toward the red sashing. Make 3 strip sets. Cut 32-11/2" wide segments.

(B) Join 1-11/2" x 22" cream and 2-11/2" x 22" red strips together as shown. Press toward the red strips. Make 2 strip sets. Cut 16-11/2" wide segments.

(C) Join the units to make one Nine-Patch. Repeat to make 16.
